**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Telecommunications | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 07, 2025

**What do you like best about AWS Transfer Family?**

My experience with AWS Transfer Family has been smooth and efficient. It’s great for securely transferring files over SFTP, FTPS, or FTP while integrating directly with S3. I appreciate the scalability, IAM-based access control, and minimal infrastructure management. The setup can take a bit of configuration effort at first, but overall it’s a reliable managed service for enterprise file transfers.

**What do you dislike about AWS Transfer Family?**

the pricing model can get expensive for heavy usage, and some configuration steps (like custom identity providers) can be complex.

**What problems is AWS Transfer Family solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It replaces our legacy SFTP servers with a fully managed, scalable service integrated with S3. This simplifies data sharing with partners, improves security, and saves maintenance time.

  ### 2. Practical managed service for secure file transfers to S3

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 02, 2025

**What do you like best about AWS Transfer Family?**

It makes it easy to set up SFTP/FTPS transfers into S3 without having to maintain your own servers. The support for standard protocols is convenient for working with external partners and existing workflows.

**What do you dislike about AWS Transfer Family?**

The initial setup has a bit of a learning curve if you’re not familiar with AWS IAM and permissions. The interface could be more intuitive for less technical users.

**What problems is AWS Transfer Family solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It provides a managed way to handle secure file transfers into Amazon S3 without the overhead of running and maintaining dedicated SFTP servers. This reduces operational effort, improves reliability, and makes it easier to integrate with external partners who rely on standard protocols.

  ### 3. Great for every day use. Highly recommend.

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jessica L. | Quality coordinator, Information Services, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 17, 2025

  ### 4. Reliable and secure managed file transfer service

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 08, 2025

**What do you like best about AWS Transfer Family?**

The seamless integration with Amazon S3 and IAM policies is one of the biggest advantages. It supports industry-standard protocols like SFTP, FTPS, and FTP, which makes onboarding external partners and clients much easier without custom development. The service is fully managed, so we don't need to worry about patching, scaling, or maintaining transfer servers ourselves. Built-in logging via CloudWatch is a big help for auditing and debugging. It’s also great that it works with existing identity providers, allowing fine-grained access control.

**What do you dislike about AWS Transfer Family?**

The pricing can become a bit expensive at scale, especially when handling large numbers of files or connections. Also, while it supports identity providers like LDAP and custom authentication via Lambda, the setup can be a bit complex and documentation could be improved in those areas. Troubleshooting certain errors (like permissions issues or failed connections) sometimes lacks the depth of information you’d expect. Native support for file encryption in transit and at rest is solid, but additional visibility into encryption status per file would be useful.

**What problems is AWS Transfer Family solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Its managed nature reduces operational overhead and increases security and reliability. Being able to transfer files directly to/from S3 using familiar protocols is extremely convenient, especially for legacy systems that expect SFTP or FTP

  ### 5. Very good experience with a lot of options

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dipesh P. | Full Stack Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 10, 2025

**What do you like best about AWS Transfer Family?**

that it supports file transfer through common protocols like SFTP, FTPS, FTP, and AS2, as well as through a web browser

**What do you dislike about AWS Transfer Family?**

The documentation is a bit too difficult to follow sometimes

**What problems is AWS Transfer Family solving and how is that benefiting you?**

File transfers to my AWS S3 used to be tedious. Now, I use the user interface in the browser and it saves me a lot of time.

  ### 6. As someone who frequently deals with secure and scalable file transfers.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 09, 2025

**What do you like best about AWS Transfer Family?**

AWS Transfer Family simplifies the process of migrating, exchanging, and managing file transfers to and from Amazon S3 or Amazon EFS. It supports SFTP, FTPS, and FTP protocols, which means you can continue to use your existing clients and workflows without needing to modify applications or manage additional infrastructure.

**What do you dislike about AWS Transfer Family?**

While the cost can be a factor for very high volumes of small transfers, the benefits of reduced operational overhead and enhanced security often outweigh this. For anyone looking for a managed, secure, and highly available solution for file transfers to AWS storage, Transfer Family is an excellent choice.

**What problems is AWS Transfer Family solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Problem: Traditionally, setting up and maintaining SFTP, FTPS, or FTP servers involves provisioning virtual machines (EC2 instances), installing and configuring server software (like OpenSSH for SFTP), managing operating system patches and updates, handling server availability, scaling to meet demand, and ensuring disaster recovery. This is a significant operational burden.
How Transfer Family Solves It: It's a fully managed service. This means AWS takes care of all the underlying infrastructure, operating system, and software patching. You don't have to worry about server uptime, capacity planning, or system maintenance.

  ### 7. A tool for easy set up & integration

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Apurv P. | Instructor - Computer Systems, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 08, 2025

**What do you like best about AWS Transfer Family?**

It provides quick deploy without managing infrastructure. It allow seamlessly connection to aws services like s3 and IAM. It is compatible with SFTP, FTPS, and FTP - making migration easy from legacy systems. As it is built on AWS, ensuring performance and reliability for enterprise-scale workloads. It provides strong security as it integrates with IAM and supports encryption at rest and in transit.

**What do you dislike about AWS Transfer Family?**

About the complex pricing structure. One more is only SFTP supports public access; FTPS/FTP require VPC, which adds setup complexity.

**What problems is AWS Transfer Family solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As we know, managing SFTP or FTp servers required handling infrastructure, patching, and ensuring uptime are hard to maintain. ATF eliminates that management by offering a fully managed, scalable SFTP/FTPS/FTP service which let us focus on business logic instead of server maintenance.

  ### 8. I was pleasantly surprised by how simple it was to get started. The setup process was smooth.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dusan D. | Software Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 08, 2025

**What do you like best about AWS Transfer Family?**

What I like most is how easy it is to set up secure file transfers without managing servers. Being able to plug it straight into S3 and control access with IAM made things much simpler. It just works, which is exactly what you want when dealing with file transfers.

**What do you dislike about AWS Transfer Family?**

While the service works well overall, I found the pricing a bit on the higher side.

**What problems is AWS Transfer Family solving and how is that benefiting you?**

AWS Transfer Family made it easy to set up secure SFTP access without having to maintain our own servers. We needed a way to exchange files with external partners in a secure and reliable way, and this service let us do that with minimal effort. It also saved us time by integrating directly with S3, so we didn’t have to build extra pipelines or tools. Overall, it helped simplify our infrastructure while meeting compliance needs.

  ### 9. Seamless & Secure File Transfers, But Pricing Can Be Complex

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aliaksandr L. | Computer Vision Team Lead, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 18, 2025

**What do you like best about AWS Transfer Family?**

What I appreciate most about AWS Transfer Family is how it simplifies secure file transfers by taking care of the heavy lifting—no need to set up or manage any infrastructure. It supports familiar protocols like SFTP, FTPS, and FTP, so you can keep using your existing tools and workflows without disruption. Plus, its seamless integration with Amazon S3 and Amazon EFS means your data is easily stored, processed, and scaled, all backed by the robust security features you’d expect from AWS.

**What do you dislike about AWS Transfer Family?**

While AWS Transfer Family offers many benefits, there are a few aspects that can be challenging. One issue is the pricing structure—it can be a bit complex since costs come from several components (server endpoint usage, data transfer, and additional features like managed workflows), making it sometimes hard to predict your overall expenses. Another limitation is that only SFTP supports a public endpoint, so if you need a public FTP or FTPS solution, you'll have to work within a VPC, which may complicate some deployment scenarios. Additionally, while integrating with other AWS services is a strong point, setting up advanced configurations (such as custom identity providers) might require extra effort and expertise.

**What problems is AWS Transfer Family solving and how is that benefiting you?**

AWS Transfer Family addresses several key challenges we faced with file transfers. It eliminates the need to set up and manage our own file transfer infrastructure by providing a fully managed, secure service that supports common protocols like SFTP, FTPS, and FTP. This means we can continue using our existing tools while seamlessly integrating with AWS storage services like Amazon S3 and EFS. As a result, our team benefits from reduced overhead, enhanced security, and streamlined automation of workflows, which in turn improves our operational efficiency and scalability.

  ### 24. AWS Transfer Family: Secure and Scalable Managed File Transfers

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Banking | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 23, 2025

**What do you like best about AWS Transfer Family?**

One of the features that I appreciate the most about AWS Transfer Family is the simplicity with which it can be integrated with Amazon S3 and EFS. Setting up secure file transfer using SFTP, FTPS, or FTP is simple, and you do not have to manage infrastructure or worry about server maintenance.
Another advantage is the security features. With IAM authentication, encryption, and industry-standard compliance support, it makes data transfer efficient and secure. It also scales automatically, so there is no need to worry about performance during peak traffic.

**What do you dislike about AWS Transfer Family?**

AWS Transfer Family follows the model of paying per hour and paying per data transferred. In case you have high-volume file transfers, it will incur considerable cost, and this compared to hosting by yourself is higher.

Unlike traditional FTP servers, AWS Transfer Family doesn’t allow direct file manipulation (e.g., renaming, editing, or moving files within S3). You’ll need to rely on AWS Lambda or other automation tools to handle these tasks.

It is cumbersome to set up custom identity providers for authenticating users, especially if you are required to connect to an external directory service. IAM roles and permissions must also be set up carefully to grant security.

**What problems is AWS Transfer Family solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Provide secure B2B file exchange without managing physical infrastructure.
Automate ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) workflows by integrating with AWS Lambda and Glue.

  ### 25. Seamless File Transfer Solution for AWS Integration

The integration with AWS services is seamless, and it supports multiple protocols like SFTP, FTPS, and FTP, which makes it versatile for different use cases. It’s reliable and scales well with growing data transfer needs.

**What do you dislike about AWS Transfer Family?**

One thing I dislike ....the pricing can add up quickly, especially for high-volume transfers. Also, setting up more advanced configurations can sometimes feel a bit complex if you’re not familiar with AWS services. It would be helpful if there were more built-in features for detailed monitoring or troubleshooting without relying on separate AWS tools.

**What do you dislike about AWS Transfer Family?**

- Cost: The pricing can become quite high for large-scale data transfers, which might concern businesses with tight budgets (0.04$ per gigabyte )

**What problems is AWS Transfer Family solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Working with external partners is key to our product initiatives, and we need to exchange data securely without giving them access to our critical systems. Amazon S3 is central to our research data, so we avoid managing separate storage stacks for data exchange. AWS Transfer for SFTP is perfect for this need.

With AWS SFTP, we can securely exchange data that resides in our Amazon S3 bucket while easily managing external users. Recently, a new project required rapid setup, and we had no on-premises storage or SFTP infrastructure to handle the volume. We set up our SFTP endpoint, attached it to our S3 bucket, provisioned users, and were operational within an hour.

This speed and flexibility are not possible with traditional on-premises solutions.
