Using Systems Manager, we can automate many of our day-to-day tasks. The thing I liked most in AWS Systems Manager is Session Manager. This feature allows us to access a server without needing to open any ports or use key-based access, which helps keep everything private and secure. It also includes a feature called Patch Manager; with this, we can patch the OS across all our servers without needing to log in to each one. This saves a lot of time and reduces the hassle. Setup is also very easy: we just need to install the SSM agent and assign the required roles and policies. It not only automates tasks, but it also understands our setup and gives recommendations on which patches we should actually install. **What do you dislike about AWS Systems Manager?** Although setting up and using AWS systems manager is very easy but sometime you might have a use to have access to a private ec2 instance where it wont have connectivity to internet in such case we need to create a private endpoint to Systems manager and configure the route by also ensuring the server already have SSM agent installed and have required policy this setup might feel little overwhelming for newcommers but AWS has lot of learning materials available to overcome this even though it never usuallly came up with any problem but sometimes troubleshooting might also get tricky. UI also is enriched with features which might be confusing at the beginning **What problems is AWS Systems Manager solving and how is that benefiting you?** AWS Systems Manager helps in solving a lot issues it provide a single platform for all tasks which reduce the overhead issues. It is very useful in patching especially in infrastructure with large number of servers it automates patching without the need to access them from a single console. Gaining private and secure access to the server without the need to open any critical ports and key access helps in improving the secuirty posture and better management. ### 2. There were some limitations within them. Since our infrastructure may be secure, but in case of defense in depth, we should always consider regular patching of EC2, identify unwanted softwares. Who and when it happened. All these should be logged for correlating purpose. System Manager with help of agents and aggregators shows the posture of an OS or an EC2 or running core. The integration is also very simple with other services to make sure security and compliance is in stand. Coming to patch manager, using playbooks were pretty easy and risk free as it could be triggered based on rules. Thanks for such a service. Implementation and support are always available from docs, whitepapers, community etc, . **What do you dislike about AWS Systems Manager?** Downside is, Overall , in view of compliance sometimes PII uploaded to s3 can be identified with Macie. But when its an image or pdf containing photo copies of such personal sensitive information its hard to identify. It might be stored on the ec2 or s3. But figuring out it is complex. We do have OCR techniques in some services, which can trigger ec2 playbooks. It saves you time to manage EC2 instances, configurations etc. One thing I did is to use the System Manager to store configuration file and deploy the configuration to my EC2 instances. The configuration is to set up the CloudWatch Agent and push the metrics to CloudWatch. It worked really well. You do not have to go into each instance and deploy the configuration file. The agent is extremely easy to install on the servers, and reports back immediately to the AWS console with the state of the server. Also, there is no additional charge when you use that service. If you haven't turned it on yet, you should install it now! **What do you dislike about AWS Systems Manager?** The User Interface is not very intuitive at first. I guess it could be a little easier to find things at first.
