The ease of setup was one of the best things about utilizing AWS Storage Gateway in our production environment. We used a Stored Volume gateway in order to retain data local for quick access, and adding the VM into our VMware enviornment was quick and easy. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Increasing the size of Stored Volumes was a bit of a pain. Typically you had to restore from a previous snapshot onto a larger disk on your VM. On large volumes in environments with slow internet connections, this will result in long periods of exposure where you are not getting snapshots of your data for backup retention. One of the most helpful things that AWS Storage Gateway helps us out with is keeping all of our data storage in one place. Usually, it is not a hard thing to do, most of the times you already are set with what you use for your teams storage, but it's nice that it connects with the other parts AWS has to offer, so there is less confusion there. I wish the documentation and help to learn this was a bit better. They have decent documentation on how to get things started and working, but of course they always think in the way of a perfect world where things work and don't go wrong. I often find myself looking online from other websites like Stack Overflow, in order to find a way to get things working. All our client's data are sensitive and the AWS storage gateway helps to protect them with hyper care. Secondly, It's unlimited cloud storage access in a virtual manner. The best thing I like about this service is the easy low cost secure. It has all of your storage needs and you know everything is securely backed up. Allowing clients access via AWS S3 to only their files is important. Confidentiality unpins my business. I also store all my course modules on AWS, this allows me to know the course content I produce is not sitting on a website or other platform - everything links with one click.
