A Snowmobile arrives at the customer site and appears as a network-attached data store for more secure, high-speed data transfer. After data is transferred to Snowmobile, it is driven back to an AWS Region where the data is loaded into Amazon S3. Snowmobile is tamper-resistant, waterproof, and temperature controlled with multiple layers of logical and physical security -- including encryption, fire suppression, dedicated security personnel, GPS tracking, alarm monitoring, 24/7 video surveillance, and an escort security vehicle during transit. ## AWS Snowmobile Reviews ### 1. The semi-container truck's method is unique, yet it runs well. very useful to use **What do you dislike about AWS Snowmobile?** it's cost are little bit higher competitively , and the process of migration is a little bit though !! can be eased Sometimes availability can be an issue for urgent need . **Recommendations to others considering AWS Snowmobile:** Use it if you are looking for fast data transfer of large amounts of data, this is for you. **What problems is AWS Snowmobile solving and how is that benefiting you?** Migrating data from on-premises to AWS in a timely manner. Items that were formerly transferred manually to hard drives or other techniques at a slower rate may now be moved swiftly and securely, even if it only feels that way with all the amenities. With AWS, transferring big volumes of data was simple. It's a very new procedure (as of 2016), and it's far from flawless, but it's a fantastic answer. ### 2. We can transfer up to 100PB per Snowmobile, a 45-foot long ruggedized shipping container, literally pulled by a semi-trailer truck. Some of the most highlighted upsides are Fast transfer at massive scale. Strong encryption. Rugged and secure. Customization is possible. Massive scale. Easy data retrieval. **What do you dislike about AWS Snowmobile?** May be restricted movement in many parts of world. Can be effected by security issues in different countries. May cause delays during COVID-19 situation. More time required for approval and schedule the transfer. Need to be planned well before time. It might be expensive in some scenarios where the capacity is not fully utilized. **Recommendations to others considering AWS Snowmobile:** Must be planned well in time as it requires alot of time to approve and schedule. **What problems is AWS Snowmobile solving and how is that benefiting you?** As there is no dependency on the internet connection, therefore this is helping to move data from remote data centers across many countries. Multiple data center migrations have become extremely easy due to this service. ### 3. I was surprised to know that there is a truck parked outside the premises to Transfer data. One Snowmobile has the capability of transferring nearly 100 PB. **What do you dislike about AWS Snowmobile?** Used for huge amount of data , if you want to transfer morethan 10 Petabytes of data . They make it easy to transfer the data. Security is also the main focus with GPS tracking, alarm monitoring and video surveillance. This process allows for date transfer at a faster rate than past processes. The process is unique with the semi-container truck, but smooth. **What do you dislike about AWS Snowmobile?** The process is just that a process. Literally having a truck at your location is sometimes a logistic nightmare. Even with GPS tracking, security and escort the fear of someone taking that much data is concerning. An argument could be made to change your backup schedule and transfer smaller amounts of data more frequently instead of one large transfer **What problems is AWS Snowmobile solving and how is that benefiting you?** Quickly migrating data from our on-prem to AWS. Items that were manually transferred to hard drives or other methods at slower paces we can now move quickly and with added security, even it if just feels that way with all the amenities. The transfer process of large amounts of data was easy with AWS. Flar tire. **Recommendations to others considering AWS Snowmobile:** It's worthwhile and will save time. There are some bugs to work out but on the whole the experience was positive.
