AWS Lake Formation provides a hassle-free data lake service, which helps users to keep all types of data in one data lake in an original or prepared-for-analysis format. AWS Lake Formation lacks an integration facility with tools outside the AWS environment. It also requires good knowledge of AWS glue, which requires an expert and is very difficult for non-technical users. AWS Athena and Redshift users can only access those tables and databases of AWS Lake Formation on which AWS glue has permission, which is a bottleneck in itself. My team uses AWS Lake Formation to create data lakes comprising various data ranging from excel files, SAP files, Parquet files, CSV files and legacy database dumps. What I like best about AWS Lake Formation is how it simplifies data lake setup, governance, and access control across AWS and analytics services. It helps centralize permissions and reduces the complexity of managing large-scale data lake environments very easily. The centralized governance model is really good for managing access more consistently from a single layer, which is much better than configuring permissions separately across multiple analytics services. Understanding permission model then, account access configurations can sometimes be complicated, especially in large enterprise environments. Troubleshooting access-related issues may also require navigating multiple AWS services and policies. It is not easy. As I'm working a Data Analytics Engineer, Lake Formation helped me a lot in model control and data access whenever I'm using it AWS services to work though the cloud for data pipeline.
