## AWS Glue Reviews
  ### 1. AWS Glue - mediocre ETL tool

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sonali A. | Senior Data Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 15, 2024

**What do you like best about AWS Glue?**

AWS Glue integrates very well with AWS services which are now widely being used by almost every company, since it's AWS original tool,it easily integrates with all others like S3 and redshift.

**What do you dislike about AWS Glue?**

AWS Glue is not user friendly, the transformation components that we have are not useful in different scenarios and we need to use custom transformation for everything, including even very basic operations.

**What problems is AWS Glue solving and how is that benefiting you?**

AWS Glue is being used for ETL taking the source data from S3 and migrating the data from different sources like S3 to PostgresSQL,it works wonders for huge volume of data and takes less time compared to other options available. In our project we are migrating the automobile data from S3 to Postgresql

  ### 2. Half cooked ETL tool

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Banking | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 20, 2023

**What do you like best about AWS Glue?**

The advantage that I see of using gule is that it has better integration with the AWS cloud. It is cost efficient as it's able to read data on AWS, and need not to provide data outbound network cost. Also I like how it's able to identify the schema of the data in S3 bucket using the data catalogue. I also like that it's a low code platform where I need to only worry about the main ETL logic and not the other components of code that are used to extract, write of data and its server less.

**What do you dislike about AWS Glue?**

There are less transformation logics that are available in gule. Also the time and knowledge needed to setup glue for the first time is quite high and doesn't look seemless as compared to the likes of matallion. There are very few glue resources available to study and get into using this product. The community is also very small hence finding answers to the question is quite difficult.

**What problems is AWS Glue solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The fact that it's a AWS offering it makes easier to access the data from other AWS services used like RDS, S3 etc. Since it's on cloud and is server less it's easy to scale up and down as required. From cost perspective as well since we pay for the only time that we have used the service its very cost effective.

  ### 3. Glue ETL tool - pros and cons

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Banking | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 17, 2023

**What do you like best about AWS Glue?**

being serverless, programmatic. can easily control how much resources we want to be used based on the need.

**What do you dislike about AWS Glue?**

over the time, glue gets costlier. it will vendor lock into aws.

**What problems is AWS Glue solving and how is that benefiting you?**

a quick cloud native etl tool helping data transformations programmatically. data in s3 buckets can be easily transformed and prepared to be loaded either into redshift or to s3 bucket again, cataloged by glue.

  ### 4. Tool that Eases the Data Engineering

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 15, 2023

**What do you like best about AWS Glue?**

Features like integration with S3, Fluid User interface and AWS Glue Studio, which has the Visual representation of the Glue transformation layer, are what I like most about the AWS Glue.

**What do you dislike about AWS Glue?**

Honestly, I like how efficient it is, and the only thing that I dislike about AWS Glue is its lack of proper documentation.

**What problems is AWS Glue solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helped us to overcome most of our ETL pipeline setup challenges and offered us managed and efficient ETL tool to solve our use case

  ### 5. I have been using glue for quite sometime. I see the lack of flexibility as compared to the EMR

**What do you like best about AWS Glue?**

The one thing I love about AWS Glue is that we are using to transform our dynamodb application data into a relation database that reporting tools like tableau and looker can use easily.

**What do you dislike about AWS Glue?**

The documentation and sample code around it is horrible. Usually, I raise an support ticket to resolve my issues.

**Recommendations to others considering AWS Glue:**

If you want to use an ETL in AWS then Glue is your answer. We have used data pipeline and it was too much but with glue it meets our needs.

The service is good in a servless architecture. The glue perfomes the etl spark jobs perfectly well.

**What do you dislike about AWS Glue?**

the service takes a lot of time to provision the servers. the insights in the glue-assembly-jar is not there. We face lot of dependency conflicts.

**What problems is AWS Glue solving and how is that benefiting you?**

we wanted to built a serverless data processing pipeline. Glue fits in well there.
