  ### 1. Secure, Low-Overhead AWS Repo Manager—Great Integration, But AWS Lock-In

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Abhishek B. | Associate Consultant, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 31, 2026

**What do you like best about AWS CodeCommit?**

As a DevOps Engineer, I would like to use it as a secure repository manager in AWS, with very little infrastructure to manage because it’s handled by AWS itself. The tight integration with other AWS services makes it easy and secure to use, such as IAM and CodePipeline for deployments, etc. However, it has limitations: it’s not free, and it can’t be used outside AWS.

**What do you dislike about AWS CodeCommit?**

The tight integration with other AWS services makes it easy to use and secure, but at the same time it isn’t free or open source, which keeps you limited to AWS. In the future, if you want to move away from AWS, you’ll need to build a new repository and manage it separately. you must have AWS Account to used AWs Code Commit.

**What problems is AWS CodeCommit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a DevOps Engineer, I have to manage and create repositories and pipelines to deploy applications. As an AWS Cloud user, this is helpful because, on the same platform, I can create a repo, manage it, integrate it with CodePipeline, and deploy applications in an easy and secure way. AWS CodeCommit, CodeArtifact, and CodePipeline help automate the CI/CD pipeline. It also offers some free services for a limited time and at lower cost. For someone who is a beginner in CI/CD, AWS CodeCommit and the other services make deployment easier. its fast so performance is high.AWS also support customer service.

**Reviewed Date:** December 14, 2023

**What do you like best about AWS CodeCommit?**

Having everything in one place or eco-system made my life a lot easier, when working with the AWS stack it means a lot not having multiple tabs or application opened to navigate and manage the project. I used it on a daily basis and it really has everything you need from a version control.

**What do you dislike about AWS CodeCommit?**

At times I can't find a certain feature, when in reality it should be easy to do, which means its a bit over complicated for a version control, but of course this can be a matter of getting used to.

  ### 11. Low Cost cloud source code version tool for CI/CD pipelines

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 22, 2022

**What do you like best about AWS CodeCommit?**

Nice Dashboard which lists all the code repositories. Creating and Managing pull requests is super easy and they are easy to read to spot the updates in the code. Adding the Comment feature works great and allows to complete the feedback cycle on any pull request created.

**What do you dislike about AWS CodeCommit?**

The User Interface seems to act a bit buggy at times especially when you have python codes being committed into your repos where indentation is the key. In such cases sometimes the indentation doesn't seem to match which can change the complete sense of the code but experienced developers can get through this pain.

**What problems is AWS CodeCommit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Integrating Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment in Software Development by allowing the developers to work on different branches of the same repository which can be merged to the main repository for final deployment is what we have achieved with the help of CodeCommit.

**Reviewed Date:** September 22, 2022

**What do you like best about AWS CodeCommit?**

It has a decent user experience and provides all the functionalities that you require for managing your repository.
It is great for small repos, that perform manual deployments. Also, if you have your entire suite on AWS, then AWS CodeCommit is a good choice for your codebase.

**What do you dislike about AWS CodeCommit?**

If you want to automate your deployments, there will be some pain. It integrates well with AWS CodeBuild and AWS CodePipeline.
However, AWS Codepipeline has only very basic features. You cannot revert deployments, manage different environments in a very smooth way..
I'd say Github is far ahead in this game.

**What problems is AWS CodeCommit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Repository Management.

  ### 14. Not a very intuitive tool for day to day work

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Manikandan B. | Senior Frontend Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 01, 2022

**What do you like best about AWS CodeCommit?**

It's just like github but aws is the provider. If we have aws infra, we can go for it otherwise not recommended.

**What do you dislike about AWS CodeCommit?**

Github was better in every way. As mentioned before its tightly coupled with aws. So it will recommend aws services to everything.

**What problems is AWS CodeCommit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In one of my last organisations we were completely using aws services. So we tried aws codecommit for managing our codebase. But we found it hard to use comparing github.

**What do you like best about AWS CodeCommit?**

All the information for the commits, branches and tags are all in the same space. The possibility to see the commit visualizer is very cool.

**What do you dislike about AWS CodeCommit?**

One this that I think needs improvement is the sharing of the currently selected branch to be selected throughout the different pages, for example, if I select on specific branch to see the commits of it, and I change to see the code/files the branch should still be the selected one, and not always having the master selected.

**What problems is AWS CodeCommit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have all code in just one place, less mess, fewer places to look for it.

  ### 16. The ease of access and quality of features and version control distinguish Codecommit from other.

The UX/UI of Codecommit is something that can be improved, though the features it provides hides this UI con still if the UX/UI is improved surely its gonna be one of the best version control tool.

**Recommendations to others considering AWS CodeCommit:**

Give it a try, surely you will see a significant difference.

**What do you like best about AWS CodeCommit?**

AWS CodeCommit acts as our version control system in our business AWS platform. It's a vendor-managed, collaborative repository for our codebase, so we don't have to worry about maintaining its infrastructure. For automating our commits, it provides useful compatibility with AWS CLI commands which makes everything quick and effortless.

**What do you dislike about AWS CodeCommit?**

In case if you haven't been working on a centralized version control system in a cloud platform, you may find difficulties in operating AWS CodeCommit. GitHub users won't face many challenges as both interfaces are almost similar to use. Once you get to know its features, It will be easy to perform your code commits in the AWS environment.

**What problems is AWS CodeCommit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Automatic approval rules is a critical feature which helps in resolving problems in our cloud platform. We specify our workflows, repository details, branch details and setup the approval rules and control priviledges based on our customer expectations. We deploy sequential stacks using AWS CloudFormation service and its essential that validation is done properly before the deployments in our production environment. Once our infrastructure team establishes the configurations through AWS CodeCommit, it automatically comes to our end for ensuring the code quality and proper functionality checks before moving them for delivery.

**What do you like best about AWS CodeCommit?**

Never thought a cloud service provider like aws come up with a simple and we'll user friendly feature for codecommit. Me being both AWS and Azure devops, in my experience when I saw this codeCommit feature it made managing my code hustle free with all the required features to push, commit, clone, and what not?

**What do you dislike about AWS CodeCommit?**

Unless it's supportive features it doesn't provide high end features like the way git provides. I expected sometimes if I get few analytics features in aws codecommit. Along with managing the branch and knowing currently which branch I'm at should be improvised a bit as I lot of times get confused in which branch I'm working at.

**What problems is AWS CodeCommit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

  ### 45. Scalable,secured and managed Git repository.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shyamal S. | Cloud Architect, Computer Software, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 31, 2018

**What do you like best about AWS CodeCommit?**

AWS Code Commit is a place to host git repository which are scalable and secured. The git repositories are totally private so that you can rely on deploying client's project for backup and reviewing. It has all the features of storing git repository other than that it helps for version controlled hosting i.e. you can review different versions of code after updating them so that whenever you wish to backtrack you can easily do so.It helps you to work collaboratively on the same project by different members of team.It is overall a great place for hosting your projects in the form of git repository.

**What do you dislike about AWS CodeCommit?**

I have used it for a long time till now and have found nothing to dislike about it.

**Recommendations to others considering AWS CodeCommit:**

I recommend using aws codecommit for version controlled hosting of git repositories which are kept private and secured and are highly scalable. Also the cost is not too high compared to other private git repository provider. It also can be integrated with other aws services and you work is totally secured as it is the service of aws so I recommend using aws codecommit.

  ### 46. AWS Code Commit - better than any other code repo

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aleksandr K. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 17, 2018

**What do you like best about AWS CodeCommit?**

I like that you get almost free private repos, this is really amazing! It's very stable, and they almost never have any issues! Gitlab is something that is lacking that. Github is something that is pricey for private repos. Bitbucket is very slow!

**What do you dislike about AWS CodeCommit?**

One thing that is lacking a little bit is basically UI. When you use GitLab, it looks pretty. However, I am able to tolerate UI in exchange of so many features that they have.

**Recommendations to others considering AWS CodeCommit:**

I would say that it would be really good to improve idea of branches and merges. I like the way visualization is there (reminds me of Git Kraken), but I would appreciate to have a somewhat more clear way to merge and handle conflicts if they persist somewhere on the repos.

Another way that I would like to see some improvements is more clear way how to migrate repos from one region to another. Sometimes it can be a really difficult task to do without other services on Amazon.

Apart from that, I would say that I am overall satisfied with things that you do with AWS Code Commit!

**What problems is AWS CodeCommit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Having private repos hosted on something reliable and not pricey, easily configured with other amazon web services.

  ### 47. One of the best repository tools for team development

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Omaira V. | Senior Computer Programmer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 05, 2018

**What do you like best about AWS CodeCommit?**

The best thing about AWS CodeCommit is how fast it update the repository and using EC2 it will upload instantly the changes, so i can see them live without change anything, also is very intuitive and easy to use, i can set pull request, and ask for merge very easy, i can create, compare branches, set tags, to be more organizated, i get notifications instantly when someone does a merge request, also can create triggers for events using amazon SNS or Lambda and can test it before set it up, and there is not fee for use.

**What do you dislike about AWS CodeCommit?**

I can create only 10 triggers, that for big projects where many people is working isn't too much, they should increase the amount.

**Recommendations to others considering AWS CodeCommit:**

Use AWSCodeCommit with EC2 and others AWS tools, they all work in a perfect synchrony that will help you, and your team to save time, and work faster, is perfect for SCRUM, and the learning lane of use is very short.

**What problems is AWS CodeCommit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Code Commit is very useful, help with remote development, to work faster, to see changes live, and works very good with another aws tools, i can even edit code online very fast to do small changes just clicking on the files. Helped me to do team-work projects on very easy way, and keep it very organized.

  ### 48. AWS Implemented GIT

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Anthony P. | Manager of IT and Security, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 05, 2018

**What do you like best about AWS CodeCommit?**

This is git but implemented with AWS. You can tie in AWS IAM and CodePipeline for a CI CD pipeline with granular permissions.

**What do you dislike about AWS CodeCommit?**

At first, it was missing a lot of features. They have come a long way and I'm sure they will continue improving it.

**What problems is AWS CodeCommit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Version control that can be controlled with a central identity management platform.

  ### 49. Almost everything I need

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michael S. | Solution Principal, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 27, 2018

**What do you like best about AWS CodeCommit?**

In-browser integration with source control is really high quality. Management of credentials through IAM is ideal.

**What do you dislike about AWS CodeCommit?**

There is no integration with CI systems in the Pull Request process. My enterprise software development processes require enforcement of a successful build and all passing tests before a PR may be merged. CodeCommit currently doesn't have any webhooks into CI systems to show build status or test results. This is a show stopper for most enterprise development teams.

**Recommendations to others considering AWS CodeCommit:**

Great for small teams who are already working directly with AWS resources.

**What problems is AWS CodeCommit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Managed source control.

  ### 50. Good only if your ecosystem is based on AWS

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ramon L. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 17, 2018

**What do you like best about AWS CodeCommit?**

I have worked with other git solutions it's great this one because of speed, it's very fast and it works well if you're looking forward to have a build process in AWS in terms of functionality, tools and security. If you stay low on usage it's free so it becomes a commodity in the AWS solution package, if you have high usage then there're minimal costs around this solution. By default all repositories are private and the security around it is just like the rest of AWS, great.

**What do you dislike about AWS CodeCommit?**

It doesn't have even half of the features/products other solutions have like Github or Gitlab. It's not as compelling either, the security around it is very big so to authenticate is not as easy as Github or Gitlab, you'll probably run into problems when first using it even coming from other git platforms due to the gui tools not being fully compatible but once you get around the authentication piece everything else is the same.

**Recommendations to others considering AWS CodeCommit:**

If you have everything in AWS then yes you can continue commiting to the platform by storing your code in a AWS CodeCommit repository. If not then you have other options in the market, I'm a big fan of GItlab and GIthub, great products.

**What problems is AWS CodeCommit solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It does the same things as the other git based tools do, my case is code versioning. You can version and keep track of any file you imagine on git platform.
