What I like most about AWS Backup is that it offers a single, centralized way to manage backups across multiple AWS resources. Rather than setting up backup policies separately for each service, we can create backup plans with schedules, lifecycle policies, and retention rules all in one place. It also supports backup vaults, encryption with AWS KMS, cross-region backups, cross-account backup copies, and automated compliance reporting. While AWS Backup simplifies backup management, restoring large datasets or cross-region backups can take time depending on the workload. AWS Backup helps solve the challenge of managing backups consistently across different AWS services. For example, we use AWS Backup to automatically back up Amazon RDS databases, EBS volumes attached to EC2 instances, Amazon EFS file systems, and DynamoDB tables based on predefined backup schedules. These backup policies ensure recovery points are created automatically and retained in line with our compliance requirements. I used AWS Backup at one of my workplaces a couple of years ago. At the time, I was building a solid cloud foundations module to be deployed in a customer’s AWS environment. They needed a fully managed solution for EC2, RDS, and DynamoDB backups and we used AWS Backup for that. AWS Backup integrated well with all the services I wanted to backup within the environment and it was easy to use with Terraform. I think we saved a lot of time and money by not going the custom backup solution route. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about AWS Backup? I didn’t see many downsides to it. At the time, the only real issue was that the Terraform providers were slightly out of date, which became an extra consideration for me when working with AWS Backup. It solves the problem of having to manage backups manually, which can be risky and cause issues for a variety of reasons. You cannot attach elastic ips and security keys without going thru the set up wizard typically used to launch an ec2. Choosing AWS is preventing the company from acquiring additional hardware. The latter only increase operating expenses. In addition, data transfer takes place at a lower cost to promote information retrieval after a disaster. Although the information stored on a server can be accessed at any time, the system may suffer malfunctions. We are aware that technology is always subject to technical problems or failures. The second main problem is integration with operating systems such as Linux. In addition, performing a cloud backup requires an excellent Internet connection to enter the server at the desired time.
