Pro Tools has a very simple unadorned and easy to use layout for most mixing tasks. It’s onboard time stretch, x-form seems to create less audio artifacts than other DAW’s native time stretch. It’s also really intuitive to navigate around in, which allows for quick workflow. Also the Tab to Transient feature is so helpful and is much needed in other daws. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Avid Pro Tools? It takes an inordinate amount of time to load. Sometimes it has taken a whole hour to load. A whole hour. I removed all my plugins from its folders so they don’t slow it down and it still takes like 10 minutes. I’m also not a fan of it’s subscription model. It’s really designed to keep leaching off artists and creators of their limited funds when all that is updated for our continued payment is like, what making sure it’s compatible with the newest OS? Lame. The single time buy should really cover these updates, is it really that hard to make sure your program still works with a new OS? Is it really worth our continued money from now till kingdom come.Pro Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. Recommendations to others considering Avid Pro Tools: If you’re looking for a writing setup, then PT is a clunky ugly DAW, you really can mix and record audio just as well in most other DAWs the only real reason to have and know Pro Tools as opposed to its competitors is because other people are using it. Most people in my newsroom had a fairly good experience using AVID. It is a precise editing software and gets the job done. However, I didn't love it in comparison to other video editing softwares. With more experience and practice, I'm sure I would have grown to enjoy using it more BUT I found it was slow and took too much time to edit in comparison to other softwares. I now use adobe premiere for the majority of my video editing. I would say I like using premiere better just because it's quicker and doesn't get slow or clock out on me the way I remember AVID. Pro Tools solves the business problems of editing video and putting together clips, interviews, etc. I used it in a newsroom setting (local station). More than you probably could ever learn. It has a few ways to make working in the software quicker and easier such as it allows you to utilize navigational shortcut keys. It also lets you setup templates and presets so you don't have to start every project from scratch or remember the settings you applied to achieve a certain sound or effect. It is expensive and if you upgrade your software on your computer, the version of ProTools and the hardware you own may not even be able to open anymore due to it being incompatible. This happened to me on my Macbook Pro. I had the same computer, but upgraded my software and was told that ProTools is no longer compatible with what I have. That was very disappointing as I would have to buy all new software and equipment when I hadn't had the current equipment long to begin with. It was basically brand new. Also, Pro Tools almost requires its own computer due to its large amount of CPU usage. If you do too many things outside of the program, you will experience hangups and instability. Lastly, the interface can be daunting for someone just starting out in the industry. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. Recommendations to others considering Avid Pro Tools: If you plan to collaborate with others in the industry, you'll most likely need to use ProTools, but I would most definitely verify this as if it's not what's widely used for your purposes, look into cheaper alternatives that can give you an equally professional sound and quality. Also, if you are new to the industry, hold off on such a complex software as this until you are more comfortable because otherwise, it will be a waste of a lot of money. Pro Tools does okay for recording music in a studio. There is nothing really stand-out or special about it but it does get the job done. It is easy to create new tracks. Personally, I prefer Logic much more over Pro Tools. Logic's interface is much more user-friendly and MIDI friendly. It is easier to navigate and get around to accomplish what you need to do. In my opinion, Pro Tools is far more complicated. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Avid Pro Tools? The worst part is that you have to have to have the USB plugged in as a security token in order to use to Pro Tools. There are only so many USB ports available so if you use a wireless mouse and an external hard drive, these ports fill up quickly. The MacBook I use only has two USB ports so this leaves me no room for my Pro Tools USB key. I think Pro Tools should be just like any other software that I can install and enter a product key and then be able to access it directly on my computer any time I want. Recommendations to others considering Avid Pro Tools: If you are a sonic artist or enjoy experimenting a lot with field recording and editing, then Pro Tools might be for you. If you are working or looking to work with film, Pro Tools is not going to work for you and there are better options. As I mentioned, I personally find Logic to get the job done much better. For my personal application and using Pro Tools throughout my Masters study in London, this really has not solved an business problems for me. I have continued on to using Logic because it meets my needs. I have learned a lot about Pro Tools and I see its value for certain applications but it has not brought any benefits to my continuing studies or my professional career. I have used this a couple of times and must say its in a class of its own, its takes audio recording and editing to a whole new level.
