What do you like best about AVEVA Edge?

The Visual tools are really very easy to use, and very established, it's so easy to use components and create ones, and when're short with capabilities you go Visual C# and create your own components! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

1. Data logging: it hardly respects the customs folders. The data files are going to the default folder and you have to verify and reaply the configuration.

What do you like best about AVEVA Edge?

It is intuitive and works smoothly. Engineering is user friendly and gives most of features in standard which normally you need to pay from other SCADAs Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is AVEVA Edge solving and how is that benefiting you?

Establish communication with many different PLC vendors.

When uning IWS you can use drivers to most of known PLC vendors ... FOR FREE. So all of them you have without extra paying.

I created SCADA for factory collecting data from machines using Siemens, Allen Bradley, SQL databases (with use of VS scripts) and presented it on HMI. Beside I did used control external signaling devices communicating with use of MODBUS TCP presenting statuses of areas. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

1. Erratic behavior - Too many unexplained problems - No permanent fixes

2. Very difficult to troubleshoot

3. Historical data storage is fragile

4. Operation in multi-machine environment creates weird glitches

What do you like best about AVEVA Edge?

Honestly the simplicity of it is the best part, it's not full of sub menues and popup after popup and comboboxes. it's straight to the point, the possibility to create custom symbols is one of the best parts aswell as creating classes for easier tag management for standard projects.

There's also no need for any seperate opc server as Indusoft supports any type of driver for almost any type of plc, and even with the basic runtimes it supports up to multiple drivers, letting you easaly communicate with multiple different types of plc within the same runtime.

Also in 8.1 the tag integration with beckhoff plc's and S7-1500 type plc's is a fantastic tool. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about AVEVA Edge?

The project display scalability is not that great, and usually doesn't scale the different types of rectangles, polygons and fonts to their correct proportions. The webclient setup with IIS have since day 1 been pretty uphill, and have honestly tried to avoid these types of requests from customers as I find it to unreliable, although I haven't tried the apache possibility yet, which I'm keen on trying in the future. Recommendations to others considering AVEVA Edge:

Easy and simple, it's just quick and easy to get a usable project out there. Considering other HMI systems the projects need to be pretty big and complex inorder to maybe use something else instead.

I've used indusoft for 9 years now and have made many small projects but also big projects with massive amounts of tags with ease. I can highly recommend to give Indusoft Web Studio a try. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is AVEVA Edge solving and how is that benefiting you?

Pretty much any problems that come during a project, can be overcome by the flexibility of Indusoft, if either needing to put data into a database, getting data from a database or general reporting systems.

One good thing is also that to convey the actual machine to the HMI is pretty easy by the resize and move options on any type of object on screen. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Reporting in Indusoft is kinda Hard as the builtin Report doesn't have much optionality and to create a good report we have to integrate SSRS in Indusoft or have to use a third party tool such as Report manager. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
