I use Autodesk EAGLE primarily for designing electronic circuits and creating PCB layouts. What I like most about EAGLE is how seamlessly it connects schematic design with PCB layout in a single workflow. It makes it very efficient to go from idea to a ready-to-manufacture board without switching tools. I also appreciate the large component library and the ability to create custom parts when needed. The large component libraries save a lot of time by providing ready-to-use parts for most common designs. When a specific part is not available, the custom component feature gives me full flexibility. This ensures accuracy in PCB design and reduces errors. The design rule checks (DRC/ERC) are very helpful in catching mistakes early. Overall, it feels like a practical and reliable tool for real engineering projects. The initial setup of EAGLE was fairly straightforward, especially with Autodesk account integration. Installation and activation were quick, and basic tools were ready to use immediately. One drawback of Autodesk EAGLE is that the interface can feel outdated and slightly difficult for beginners to navigate. It has a learning curve, especially when working with advanced features. Also the Manual routing can be very time consuming for complicated PCBS. Additionally, library management can sometimes feel confusing. I use Autodesk EAGLE to convert circuit ideas into accurate schematics and PCB designs, reducing confusion with organized components. I find Eagle's own built-in programming language, ULP, great to automate common tasks. The built-in part builder works good too. Compared to competitors like Ki-Cad the UI is great. When designing circuits that require some chips you will need to add the parts manually. For my particular small business, the plethora of libraries and the integration with Fusion 360 is amazing. Eagle allows me to compete with companies many times larger than our current size. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Autodesk EAGLE? As an old school user I admittedly I don't like the yearly subscription model. It is a minor gripe and I do think the value is being added frequently enough to justify. As a mentor to students I would like to see the free version go to 3"x5" boards as many maker/educational projects I do need about that much space. Those few extra inches would ingratiate AutoDesk to the maker and educational community. KiCAD is maturing to a point where it is giving Eagle a real run for it's money. I have been using Eagle for over 20 years in the form of the original Cad Soft Eagle 4.1 for Linux. Recently Switched to Autodesk Eagle Professional. Autodesk has added 3D modeling capability to Eagle and integrated it into their Fusion 360 mechanical design software package (See my Fusion 360 review). I like the integration between to two software packages. Both are very reasonably priced. My old data files and component library's files transferred effortlessly. Eagle stores your boards data files locally (not in the cloud). Your part library files are in the cloud. This allows other users on your team to share part libraries. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Autodesk EAGLE? Subscription based software. The current trend in engineering software is that it is moving to subscription based. Advantage is low initial cost. In to old days you would shell out between $1500 - $25000 for the software and then pay an annual maintenance fee to stay current. If your company couldn't afford the maintenance fee, you would be stuck with an old version, but you could still get work done. Now you pay a much smaller fee annually to be able to work. Eagle is better in this area compared to Fusion 360, because your boards data file are still saved locally, so no worries that someone else might be able to get your files.
