Enabling printed circuit board (PCB) designers to seamlessly connect schematic diagrams, component placement, PCB routing, and comprehensive library content. ## Autodesk EAGLE Reviews ### 1. Paid for version still has a max pcb size... **Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** James S. | CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.) **Reviewed Date:** February 13, 2019 **What do you like best about Autodesk EAGLE?** haven't really had a chance to dive in and prove it yet; however, the fusion 360 integration and collaboration aspects as well as the design blocks seem very powerful. **What do you dislike about Autodesk EAGLE?** we had a huge project come in ( for the super bowl ) and were excited to use EAGLE as the primary tool for it. We have the cheapest paid for version of EAGLE. We started the project out and did the schematic layout etc, and then got to the pcb layout side of things. In short, we thought we were in the clear since it was a simple two layer board; however, it ended up being large enough that we were license limited. Admittedly, at that point, we abandoned EAGLE and swapped to KiCAD for the entire rest of the project. I understand the limitation on layers and potentially reserving features for the most expensive tier of EAGLE, but size? Why?? Designs typically are semi-organic. The overall size isn't known when you go into it. Usually it's a "make it as small as possible" mentality. As such, when new features are added in, typically the easiest response is "let's just make the board a little bigger". Whereas, the number of layers on a board is usually more rigid. This is primarily due to complexity of design as well as cost. I hear more often "we should have made this a 4 layer board" than "oh, let's just add a layer". This is because changing the number of layers is basically a full redesign. Whereas, board real-estate is much more organic. To wrap up, organically hitting a license limitation is infuriating. As such, I'd strongly recommend removing board real-estate as a license limiting feature. **Recommendations to others considering Autodesk EAGLE:** put some pressure on Autodesk to do better licensing and to get collaboration fully figured out. **What problems is Autodesk EAGLE solving and how is that benefiting you?** we design products ### 2. There are so many issues with this program that I don't know where to start. Sharing work between two different engineers was a nightmare. Getting used to the Eagle way then having to switch and reset to a new / usable program was also a nightmare, but literally everything is a little harder with Eagle, and if you're quoting PCBA for any volume at all, you're setting yourself up for failure or at least a much bigger pain in the ass than necessary using Eagle. **Recommendations to others considering Autodesk EAGLE:** Don't. I know Altium is much more of a pain and more expensive, but you'll quickly waste more time and money with Eagle than you would have using Altium in the first place. **What problems is Autodesk EAGLE solving and how is that benefiting you?** None any more. ### 3. Autodesk could have done so much better with Eagle **Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Verified User in Consumer Electronics | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.) **Reviewed Date:** February 13, 2019 **What do you like best about Autodesk EAGLE?** The work flow.....with instant and automatic updates to the netlist. **What do you dislike about Autodesk EAGLE?** The subscription pricing model is fine for games, terrible for professional software. Would rather buy a new version periodically as necessary. The newer versions of Eagle are missing some of the manual route wire bend options, which make manual routing more difficult. I find the interface icons harder to read than the old version of Eagle. Long story short I still use and prefer Eagle 7.7 over my latest Autocad version, but I see backwards compatibility is becoming a bigger issue all the time. **Recommendations to others considering Autodesk EAGLE:** If PCB design is your occupation, look for another option.....Eagle is still OK software at this time, but the subscription based pricing and backwards compatibility needs resolved.
