"The Customizable Workhorse: The Foundation for All Engineering and Design Disciplines"
What do you like best about AutoCAD?

Crucially, its deep customization via AutoLISP and the powerful API allows our CAD managers to build highly specific automation routines. We have created dozens of custom commands and scripts that enforce our company's unique drafting standards, automatically generate bills of material (BOMs), or clean up external consultant drawings. This ability to tailor the software to proprietary is invaluable for long-term productivity and maintaining standardization. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about AutoCAD?

Furthermore, the mandatory subscription model and the requirement for continuous internet connectivity for license checks pose a challenge for field workers or small businesses with intermittent access. The perpetual licensing model of the past provided more long-term financial predictability that the current annual fee structure lacks. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"The Drafting King: Unbeatable Precision And Speed For 2D Documentation"
What do you like best about AutoCAD?

What I like best is its status as the unwavering industry standard for 2D technical documentation, its accuracy, reliability, and precision are absolute - it is the digital ruler and compass for millions of architects, Engineers, and designers. The DWG file format is universally accepted, making collaboration with consultants, contractors, and suppliers seamless, regardless of their native CAD platform. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about AutoCAD?

The primary point of frustration is the significant subscription cost combined with its resources-intensive performance on large files. While the software is powerful, it often requires high-end hardware and can notoriously slow to load or process complex drawings, leading to lost time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"AutoCAD: Precise, Lightweight, and Reliable—But Needs Better 3D Line Identification"
What do you like best about AutoCAD?

AutoCAD is the best, I was introduced to it in my university, and I have been using it for almost 18 years. It is my favorite drafting tool, because it is precise and its files are light and compatible with most architectural softwares. I like how I can control the quality of the documentation and printing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about AutoCAD?

I don't think it can be defined as a dislike, but I guess sometimes this software can be easily misused. It's hard to identify 3D lines in 2D spaces. Per example some users use topographic info to draw a site plan, and this can generate errors. It would be amazing if 3D elements had a flag to identify them quickly. "Still useful for early sketches and coordination with CAD-based teams"
What do you like best about AutoCAD?

AutoCAD remains a reliable tool for quick drafting, especially in early design stages or when we need to produce simple linework fast. It’s also helpful when coordinating with consultants or contractors who haven’t transitioned to BIM and still require DWG files. I appreciate its precision and flexibility for 2D work — sometimes it’s just faster to sketch something out in AutoCAD before moving into Revit. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about AutoCAD?

For BIM workflows, AutoCAD is limited. It doesn’t offer the parametric or collaborative power of Revit, and working in 2D increases the risk of inconsistencies. Layer management can also get messy in larger files, and the lack of a central model means more manual coordination. We only use it where absolutely necessary, mainly for external coordination. "A powerful tool for precise drafting and design"
What do you like best about AutoCAD?

AutoCAD is extremely reliable for creating precise 2D drawings and detailed 3D models. I like its wide range of drafting tools, layer management, and the flexibility it provides for different engineering, architectural, and mechanical applications. The software integrates well with other design tools, and its file compatibility (DWG, DXF, etc.) makes it easy to share projects. The command-based workflow is efficient once you get used to it, and the customization options with shortcuts, scripts, and plugins help improve productivity. The cloud storage and collaboration features also make it easier to work with teams across different locations. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about AutoCAD?

The main drawback of AutoCAD is that it requires a high-performance system to run smoothly, especially for large projects, which can slow down older computers. The licensing cost is relatively expensive compared to other CAD software, which makes it less affordable for small businesses or individual freelancers. There’s also a steep learning curve for beginners because of the wide range of tools and commands. Sometimes, rendering and 3D modeling are not as advanced as dedicated 3D design software, so additional tools are required for complex projects. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"AutoCAD: Great for Learning, but Compatibility Challenges"
What do you like best about AutoCAD?

I have been using AutoCAD for only two months now, and so far, I am particularly impressed with the import feature and the direct input method feature. The import feature is especially beneficial as it allows me to use other works, tweak some settings, and use it for myself. This is crucial when there is very little time to create a design, and it's quite challenging if I don't know the basics. These features have significantly eased my learning process and project creation experience. Furthermore, the initial setup was hassle-free, as AutoCAD was already installed on my college lab computer, and for my personal PC, it was straightforward. Installing the software required minimal effort, as everything was handled by the system, making my start with AutoCAD smooth and efficient. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about AutoCAD?

I face compatibility issues with AutoCAD. In my college, the computers have varying specifications, such as Intel i3 and dual-core processors. This inconsistency in hardware creates a high demand on the system to run AutoCAD efficiently. Despite some computers having 1TB of storage, AutoCAD struggles to perform, running as if it's on its last legs. This makes it difficult to work effectively, and I experience frequent performance issues with the software. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Versatile Tool with High Storage Demand"
What do you like best about AutoCAD?

I appreciate how AutoCAD has helped me transition from hand-drawn drawings to digital designs, significantly reducing the time and minimizing precision errors. I find the software versatile because I can use commands like 'hatch' for filling, 'fillet' for curving edges, and construction lines for dividing my designs, offering me numerous options and making my diagrams neat and clean. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about AutoCAD?

I found the account verification and installer setup during AutoCAD's initial installation challenging. The individual pricing of AutoCAD is quite high, which feels prohibitive and not good value for the price. I've faced compatibility issues where my PC crashes while working on AutoCAD, and this is incredibly disruptive to my work. The software requires a significant amount of storage space, about 20 GB, which pressured me to upgrade my PC's storage from one TB to four TB just to handle the requirements comfortably, since it was a work pc and storage demand is high. This storage demand, combined with compatibility issues, becomes more significant as storage nears capacity. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
