## Audacity Reviews
  ### 1. Still one of the best freeware

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Donald D. | Video/Motion Graphics Consultant, Philanthropy, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 29, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

Audacity is a stripped down, audio program with which you can record and produce. I think of it as the opposite of Apple's Garageband. It's been around forever and there's lots of material about how to use it, though the UI doesn't give much clue.

It offers multitrack recording, but without all the aids that you get in other applications, but it can do, as in perform, almost any need.

If you're into Macports FFMpeg, you can load those libraries as an alternative to mp3 libraries.

Whereas Garageband and Pro Tools requires tens of gigs of space, Audacity is less than 75MB (libraries not included). It's more friendly with old school stuff like soundflower.

This is like learning to drive on a stick shift.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

Although it can do just about anything you have to find the documentation and libraries, ports and whatnot to actually get all the capacities necessary for making and sharing audio files today.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

Slow learning curve but well worth it.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Recording audio

  ### 2. Easy to use

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sabreena N. | IT End User Support, Higher Education, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 12, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

For someone who isn't very familiar with audio editing apps, this is very easy to use for beginners. Definitely recommend it. I got this app when I wanted to create my own remixes for projects I was doing for school and as a student in just high school back then, this was definitely a product to use. Only use it when I need too. Its a fast process when you know what you're doing and when you understand the tools.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

Some parts are limited as you have to download the audio then puzzle it in what you want. Other tools are not as simple as they should be. The interface can be a little confusing as you would need to play around with it a lot to understand the functions of each tool. Also the amount of times you would have to rerecord can get a bit annoying when you need a project done. Right click functions don't work when editing either. Its easier to start a new project than to try editing what you already have.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

You would understand it better once you play around with it. Create mini sample audio before wasting your time on log projects. Easier when understood.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Created a lot of good audio when experimenting with this app. Used it for shows I have done in the past. Sometimes glitches would occur, but once you get the gist of it, you can create something awesome.

  ### 3. Simple, effective, and low-cost

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ben A. | Creative Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 28, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

Audacity is a straightforward audio editing application that makes isolating and removing noise from scratch audio insanely easy. It's well-suited for singular tasks with audio -- less for mixing and more for editing/adjusting/modulating -- but on these fronts it performs robustly.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

The graphics user interface for this program can seem a little bland and dated. Audio waveforms represented graphically don't have the familiar looks of Adobe, Sony or Apple suite products; so users new to Audacity may find that the interface takes some 'getting used to'. Additionally, working on more than one audio track at a time, for mixing or mastering, can be a bit of a chore.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

If you have very niche needs for audio editing and mastering, ,Audacity may offer the right solutions to you. For our purposes, which are very specific, we make great use of some of the features of the application. For intensive audio mixing and mastering, however, I would recommend a product with a more fully-featured graphics user interface and intuitive workspace.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We frequently run into issues with source audio when dealing with corporate clients. Oftentimes, we'll have a testimonial or interview for a broadcast ad recorded in a noisy environment, and the only solution is selective sound isolation and noise reduction. While tools from our Adobe Suite may be more robust, they are not straightforward or simple enough as Audacity is. In the app, we literally select a plain noise portion, and select Effect > Noise Removal > Get Noise Profile. Could not be easier -- and not only that, it's effective! The noise removal in Audacity is a novel feature, but one that is excellent and technically proficient.

  ### 4. First audio editor I used when I started editing.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Eugene F. | Production Coordinator, Broadcast Media, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 26, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

It's a relatively simple audio editor that packs a great punch. It's very similar to older versions of Adobe Audition, so when you can afford to make the transition it's incredibly easy. The best part is that it's free and open source, (however I recommend donating a little bit to keep it free for newcomers). It has great audio effects and cleans up audio very well.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

The only problem I have with it is that it can't work with WAV format files. You can export into WAV, but can't edit them. I believe it's a licensing issue with Microsoft. Other than that I don't have many problems with it!

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

If you already have the Adobe CC then you really don't need this program. But if you're just starting out and can't afford the more 'professional' programs, or need to quickly edit some audio, then this program is definitely for you.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I've mainly used it to clean audio up. When there's background noise, hums, hisses, buzzes, etc. it cleans them up just as well as the pro programs.

  ### 5. Simple to use, fast and free

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sham B. | Lead front end developer, Online Media, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 26, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

Audacity is not just one of the best open source sound editors, it is one of the best open source applications out there period.

If you are a multimedia creator (apps, games and rich online content), then Audacity is your one-stop for working with sound assets.

It enables you to edit your samples then use various filters to polish them up to production standard.

Things like ‘remove wind noise’ and kill that ‘pesky fan noise you never realised was there when you shot your vBlog’ right down to the usual standard techniques (top-and-tailing’, where you fade in and fade out any game effects samples so they create no clicking, and normalising your sound assets if they came from different sources so that they now all sound the same).

For the pro sound creator, Audacity supports VST plugins, so you can use Audacity for quick edits outside your normal (and typically much larger) authoring environment. This may be important if you work within a team and need basic edits of-loaded, as happened a short while ago to me (I just needed someone to add noise reduction and normalization to a lot of sound effects for a web game, and got my partner to do it for me in Audacity).

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

It doesn’t integrate into your workflow as well as native applications if you are using a suite such as Adobe CC (you might use Adobe Audition in this case).

It requires a bit more technical know-how; you may have to install things like LAME/ffmpeg to get the best from Audacity. Not a problem for most people as It is all pretty well documented.

UI is a little dated.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

Free, open source, stable. Works well on low spec systems.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Sound asset creation and edit for multimedia (app development, rich media development, games)

  ### 6. Audacity is a great lightweight sound editing application

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Elaine F. | Visiting Professor of Graphic Design, Higher Education, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 25, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

It is free. That's nice in the audio world. It does lots of things that you might want. I don't know if it compares with the more professional programs but I found it easy to open recordings I made and edit them by clipping bits from them, adding parts together and editing some of the values of the sounds. I'm an amateur using audio programs so I don't entirely understand all the details of effects or the sound generation tools but I find I can still experiment with them. I made several different kinds of sound compositions out of noise I recorded in my environment. It was easy to make something.

It's an easy download from the internet but there are several libraries that should be downloaded with it. It was easy to open an audio file and create more complex compositions. I also found it easy to open other kinds of audio files and make changes to them. For free, it's a really convenient and valuable tool.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

Since I don't understand so much of the area of sound there are parts of the interface I don't understand. That's not a problem for the software as much as it's a problem for me.

Downloading the plugin libraries always takes me some time and while it's really easy, it's also easy to be confused by the process.

Sometimes I find myself redoing my work over and over because I do something I don't like and I think it will be easier to start over than step backwards.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

Audacity will give you access to tools for editing audio that are easy to learn and fairly robust. It will allow you to create sounds, edit and combine sounds or change a sound file from one type to another.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I used Audacity to create a composition out of random sounds and later created a movie that worked with the sounds. I also took some interviews and spliced them together so I could listen to them myself as single files.

  ### 7. Quick and free way to edit and improve audio

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Matthew G. | Director of Customer Experience, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 25, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

Easy to pick up and start using, Audacity is a simple way to perform quick/small scale audio edits. Append tracks, change volume, remove noise, add effects, etc. It's super intuitive to use if you know some audio lingo and know what you want to achieve. As someone with no mixing experience I'm able to create passable audio tracks at a good level, and it's free to use which is a huge bonus.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

The UI looks like it's from 1997 and the shortcuts are super unintuitive. Some of the effects take a long time to produce and the snapping functions are finicky. As well, when you are playing back a track and pause, it's hard to get your cursor to that point and also if your cursor is set and you start playing you lose that saved location.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

It's free, give it a try. If you're experienced in audio skip it. If you want something easy to use and you're pretty new, grab it!

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Editing and mixing audio tracks for our voicemail system as well as for within our Vlogs/explainer videos. Creating sound effects for use within our apps.

  ### 8. Amazing program for the price (or lack thereof)

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Vincent R. | Video Editor, Marketing and Advertising, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 25, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

The best part about Audacity is that it is free, while still giving you the tools you need to get the job done. In addition, it's open source and available for Windows, Mac, and Linux. This allows anyone to download the program and begin making edits. If you are on a budget, Audacity is the perfect tool to learn and grow on while you build your skillset and work towards purchasing a more advanced program. If simple tasks are all you need to do, then you can probably stick with it for a long time.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

Obviously, since the program is free, it does have its limits. You may have to spend some time learning the program and its different features. In addition, the effects, while useful, are not all that powerful and you may get unsatisfactory results.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

If you're looking for a great (free) program that is well rounded, I would absolutely recommend Audacity.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Audacity is used very seldom, since I now have access to Audition and Pro Tools. However, Audacity did have its time in the early stages when I needed to make quick edits and had nothing else available. If you're traveling or are in an area where you can't access other programs, a quick download of Audition can get you up and running so you can get the job done.

  ### 9. The best free audio editor

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alex F. | Freelance, Entertainment, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 25, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

It's free, and it's open source, which are two major bonuses when we're talking about software. It is a great option for schools, teaching music production and sound design, since there are so many tutorials readily available on the internet.

It also has a powerful effects engine and the ability for the community to write their own plugins, which makes this even more interesting.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

The audio interface can be a little bit difficult to operate, especially when it comes to selecting and moving around audio pieces. The UI is also fairly out of date.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

If you can spend the money:

If making films and using other software in the Adobe suite (such as Premiere etc), then definitely go for Audition, it integrates really well.

If using Apple Devices or Final Cut Pro X, then go for Logic Pro X.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Audacity allows us to create quick and dirty recordings out in the field on unfamiliar hardware. Sure, it is nice to be able to bring along a laptop running Audition or Logic Pro etc. but sometimes you don't have the option and need something that can be downloaded onto any computer. This is that piece of software.

  ### 10. Its simplicity is its strength

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Amos J. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 25, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

Audacity is the perfect tool for quick and dirty audio editing. With pared down features and UI, the focus is on the audio. The tools for cutting and editing audio are presented directly to you with no searching through menus required. It also has an excellent variety of effects from various sources, making this product very versatile. The audio files are presented simply onscreen, allowing you to directly interact with your whole project, improving focus and increasing efficiency.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

It seems to me that simplicity is its strength and its weakness. Audacity is missing some important features present in other audio editors such as certain effects. As well as that, there is no effect management or stacking, meaning that you can't edit effects after applying them. There are also problems with precision selection of audio (sometimes a problem when trying to create perfect loops). Furthermore, I don't think anyone would disagree that this product is not especially attractive. It could definitely use a UI revamp to improve its image.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

Excellent for amateurs. Very good for professionals looking for quick editing. If you desire a full featured product, look elsewhere.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This product is mainly used for sound design in school theatre. Since the budgets are tight, it is very valuable to have a free application to edit audio. It is also very easy to use, allowing younger students to quickly gain the skills required to create soundscapes and edit sound effects.

  ### 11. Suprisingly Great for a Free Product!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alec B. | Talent Agent, Restaurants, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 09, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

Downloading and getting started with Audacity was surprisingly simple. You can easily begin recording after a few hours of playing around with it and that is just the basic functions. The sound quality is really great, good enough that my wife is able to use Audacity for her voice over jobs for the time being.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

It would be nice to have better/newer tutorials for current versions. I had trouble finding out what some effects do and how to use them properly. Luckily, I didn't need them right then.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

If you want to dabble in recording and editing and have no idea what you are doing, this is a great product to get you started. It is easy to learn and play with and professional quality despite being free.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We were just getting my wife started on her freelance job as a voice actor and we didn't have a lot of money to pour into equipment and software. This has been a real God send for us! Many of her clients are more than happy to accept recordings created in Audacity and you just can't beat free!

  ### 12. Handy wave editor

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Victoria G. | Teaching Assistant, Higher Education, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 21, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

Audacity is easy to use and works flawlessly.

It is the best free wave editor that I have ever tried.

I have used it for years and it continues to improve.

Now with multitracking -- you can replace your DAW for small projects.

Great plug-in support and it works in several operating systems.

I use it often for fade-in and out and for checking the amplitude on a final mix.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

There is absolutely nothing to dislike. Audacity works well. You cannot expect it to be a fully featured DAW, because it is not really intended to do that.

Note: Some operating systems require an additional LAME download to export to mp3 format

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

Download it and try it for yourself. It is a great software that is easy to use and will prove very handy.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Audacity is there for me when I need it.

Visiting at someone's home and want to record something -- a quick download and you have tools in hand.

Audacity is clean and has a variety of tools and filters that have proved very useful to me in my work.

  ### 13. Professional Quality for Professional Start-ups!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brittany B. | Freelance Voice Over Artist, Consumer Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 31, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

This program was incredibly easy to learn and after just a few tutorials I was recording and editing audiobooks that had professional sound and quality. That fact that I can use this for my business is quite amazing since it is a free program, but you don't get "free" quality by any means. I have been so happy with it and do not foresee the need to upgrade any time soon.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

It can be overwhelming at first because of the number of things you can do and I found the help guide was not always very helpful. I had to turn to YouTube to find tutorials and even then I had a hard time finding some for this latest edition of the program. You will also need to download a plug-in if you would like to save your files as an MP3 instead of a WAV. It isn't that big a deal, but it is a bit inconvenient when one would think you could simply do that already

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

There is no reason not to try it! If it doesn't meet your needs then you can simply uninstall it, but I bet you will find it very useful once you get started.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I started a personal business as a freelance voice artist earlier this year and found that funds were a huge problem. I knew I needed editing software, but I simply couldn't afford it. A friend turned me on to Audacity and, though I was skeptical, I thought it couldn't hurt to try it. I was blown away with the quality of my recordings and that they were professional grade. Free was certainly in my budget and my clients have been happy with the end results. It has been a win-win in every way!

  ### 14. I LOVE THIS PRODUCT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Management Consulting | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 12, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

I seriously LOVE Audacity! I have started using it for my company's podcasts and the ease of learning is so great. I love being about to pick up on the process so quickly!

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

Nothing! I have used other editing software before and this one is hands down the easiest I've used!

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

You need this! If you have any audio editing to do then you must get this software. There are plenty of learning tips and videos available to learn how to use it too!

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am creating podcasts for my company. We do real time podcasts at our events, as well as recorded podcasts with our sales leaders to use for marketing purposes. I've learn so much using Audacity and look forward to continuing that skill

  ### 15. Used for Audio Capture and Basic Editing

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** KC M. | Freelancer, Animation, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 25, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

Audacity works really well as a quick and easy recording program. It's much more basic than other programs, so it loads way faster. The noise removal function is also incredibly good, even better than the one in Adobe Audition in my opinion. Audacity also supports VST plugins, which is awesome.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

Audacity is a pretty basic program. It lacks functionality for higher end tasks. Generally though, it can do everything you would want out of it.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

Audacity is a great program, and definitely worth having since it's free. Even if you primarily use a different DAW, it's good to have Audacity in your back pocket in case you need it.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Audacity to capture audio from a USB device for creating YouTube videos. It's super snappy, so setting up is easy. When I do editing though, I typically ditch Audacity for Audition.

  ### 16. Free (but simple) Open Source DAW

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jeff W. | Web Developer, Marketing and Advertising, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 29, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

Very easy to use and get started. Also the fact that it is completely free.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

Many of its best features aren't very intuitive and can be pretty hard to find. The UI also leaves a lot to be desired. It's not very beautiful to look at but certainly gets the job done.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

Don't expect a fully featured DAW like Pro-Tools or Abel. It's a pretty basic tool but surprisingly powerful if you're willing to do some digging.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use audacity to quickly capture audio during song writing and also to produce sound effects for games and apps. Since it's so simple it has only what you need and no distracting features. Add to that the fact it is completely free all make me recommend it to anyone looking for a quick way to record and track music, sounds, and voice.

  ### 17. Free and full

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jeep C. | Sound Engineer, Music, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 12, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

It's free of course, that's definitely the most attracting aspect of this audio-editing software. Also, it provides a lot of features that allow me to work in the studio, such as supporting stereo recording. This is very important as my company helps client record music and it is imperative for audio to be professionally handled. Although free, the features is on par with professional, expensive, paid software such as Logic Pro X.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

The learning curve for this software is higher than those commercially offered by such as Apple's Garageband. Intuitively it seems like Garageband is more user friendly as one does not need to look up much how to use it. However, it is worthy to note that the extensive features available in Audacity is able to cover this small disadvantage. After learning how to use it once, one could use it forever.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

Try it out! It's free and won't hurt.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

To record professional audio for my company's clients. I have realised, since our company is a startup that this software is amazing by the fact that its really free, even for Windows machines. For some colleagues, they were not able to use Garageband or Logic Pro X (Which we prefer using), and the entry-price for Macbooks are pretty expensive.

Audacity, is great for startups.

  ### 18. Audacity: Great beginner audio editor

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Pete Eugene G. | Online CLE Manager, Legal Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 25, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

My favorite part about Audacity is how it's really easy to learn and pick up. You should be able to learn the program and start editting audio very quickly because of it's intuitive lay-out. There are lots of tutorials and tools out there online that can help you. Overall, great for beginners.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

Oneproblem I have with this program is that it doesn't a lot of the bells and whistles higher quality audio software has. But again, I believe this is mainly a program for beginners to get their feet wet in the world of editing audio. The download also contains lots of 3rd party add-ons that you definitely don't need and slows your computer down.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

My business use's Audacity to record voice-overs for videos and sometimes record podcasts for our membership.

  ### 19. User friendly, free program

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rachel G. | Communications Specialist, Real Estate, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

The ability to use with limited previously knowledge of audio editing. The price of "free" is always a plus.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

Very limited in what you can do. For mixing multiple tracks, extensive editing or combining with other effect, Adobe Audition is more sophisticated program.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

If you are looking for a easy-to-use, free program to get your feet wet with editing audio, Audacity is perfect. For more intensive projects, look into other programs, such as Adobe Audition, to find the best fit.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Creating an audio slideshow for use in presentations. Ease of use for a time sensitive project is key.

  ### 20. Audacity!!!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Entertainment | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 15, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

I have been using audacity for quite a while now, but it saved me the most recently when I needed to remove noise from a recording that took me the whole day. In 5 mins, I was left with very clean audio file. Its also great for audio recording.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

Nothing yet. Every feature i have tried so far is just amazing.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

I totally recommend this for your audio editing needs.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Audio editing and noise removal

  ### 21. Great audio editing software for a great price!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Salina L. | Designer, Apparel & Fashion, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 06, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

First and foremost, it's free! Which is amazing for such a fully featured software. It supports multi-track recording. It has incredibly easy to use wave editing controls. And it's incredibly simple to use.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

There's not a whole lot to dislike about it. If you want to export to MP3 you have to install the proper codecs manually, which is more of an inconvenience than anything. This does, however, allow it to be released for free though.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

I love it. It's free. It's open source. It's light on processing power initially. And it gives you amazing looking levels of control to edit and record audio as you need to.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I mainly use it for editing audio to be used for video. So if an audio track is too long, I can chop what I don't need and a nice fade out. I can edit different audio files together, for adding intros and outros as needed. And if I just want to record for let's say a podcast I can do that as well.

  ### 22. Worked with combining vocal and instrumental music.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Katie E. | Marketing Design Coordinator, Photography, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 06, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

I love the quality of the finished product and the different mediums that it can be expressed through. I have worked with the product only a few times over the years on a freelance position. I feel as if it was something that was able to be picked up quickly and I can easily teach the basics to other users.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

I dislike the complexity of the navigation. I would like to learn more to understand some of the other tools that are available to use in this program. I feel as if a stronger navigation would call out to the features better to encourage more experimenting through different projects.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

I would recommend others to first experiment with Audacity before taking on a project. There are so many tools and experiences for the user that would be helpful to understand before using. I would personally like to take more tutorials on the program which I believe would help myself experiment in a greater idea.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have seen the benefits of turning simple recordings in to a more complete recording to be seen online. I have not had the chance to use it in a business environment but more within my freelance work with close friends. We have worked together on projects to find the best quality of sounds.

  ### 23. Technically Deep and Versatile Software

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Andrew L. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 04, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

Audacity has been useful to me for instruction-making as well as for my personal music creation, because of its simplicity in its GUI and variety of options. What's great about these options is that Audacity can be used for just a few minutes if you want to record something small, or you can spend more time and create a quality recording - and it's all your call.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

Occasionally there were slightly annoying help menus that came up, while these features are generally unnecessary/a bother. Help menus with the advent of a powerful Google are now obsolete.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

Just spend some time getting familiar with the features before you start because it'll help you in the long run; also, you SHOULD use this because of its capability given that its free software.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Nearly all of my video presentations' audio tracks (for voice) are recorded with Audacity, because it's money that doesn't have to be invested in expensive and clunky software. The process is quick, therefore saving a lot of time that I can spend coding elsewhere.

  ### 24. Best for my type of work!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kartik P. | Project Leader, Internet, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 01, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

My most of the work was related to solve the questions for Capture The Flag contests. Hence, splitting left and right audio, analyzing individual stream was my primary tasks. Also, sometimes I used it as Mp3 encoder. That helped me to compare the result of mp3 encoded signal and of my algorithm of mp3 encoder.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

Actually as far as I used it, it was quite comfortable. One of the problem was that the software should be removed from sourceforge.net. If it is available on their website then there is no requirement of putting it on sourcefourge.net. In addition to that, they add their software along with the installations which are very irritating.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

In my circle there are many people who needs this type of softwares for Audio Processing. An in my Hobby circle, people need the software for solving Capture the Flag problems. I am definitely going to suggest them. Because I have used it for both the purposes and it is more than sufficient for the same.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am not using it as a business problem solver. But I got it's benefits for my project on mp3 encoder.

  ### 25. Simple audio editor for beginners

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Enmanuel D. | Front-End Developer, Internet, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 28, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

Audacity is a simple and useful audio editor that allows you to edit your tracks. I prefer to use Audacity when I have to do something simple like cleaning tracks eco or sounds that I don't like, you can easily add some effects, balance and cut the audio. It's incredible lighter, most of the audio editors weight is over 200mb, audacity only weighs about 20 mb which is great for portability in all kind of pc's and operating systems. It also accepts main formats like .wav .mp3.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

The interface could be better, it's a little bit old/boring when using it, normally this kind of software is a little bit more cool to use, you'll normally wanna give the user a good edition experience.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

If you are looking for a good/simple software to edit your tracks and remove some imperfections then audacity could be the one for you, I use FL Studio to create my tracks and record, but when it comes to fast editing I prefer to use audacity because it's really fast and lighter, I normally remove little things with it and it has done the job more than well.

Keep in mind that it's not too powerful if you are looking for something more professional there are other options.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I clean my tracks from imperfections with audacity, and when I need to do something quick I just install it in another pc and do it quick, it's really a good portable option.

  ### 26. Can't beat free!

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 27, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

I like that audacity is free and has all the editing features you might find in a more expensive option.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

The interface is clunky and not very intuitive. I only use it when I'm on a PC. If I'm using my Mac, I prefer the in-house software.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use audio editors to produce sound for videos in classroom or voice record a test to send to students.

  ### 27. Better than some of the paid solutions.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Adam K. | Camera Operator, Media Production, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 25, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

Audacity is a really powerful yet simple audio editor. It works with every codec I threw at it and this functionality can be expanded with external libraries. This software features all of the key components that you will need - you can record and edit audio in variety of ways. It can be used by amateurs and professionals as well. Anyone can dig deep into it's code because Audacity is open source. It works with many operating systems so it doesn't matter if you use PC with Windows, Apple computer with MacOS or Linux. And all of that for free! It's a great offer.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

The UI is it's biggest flaw - while it's simple and "works", it looks outdated and lacks polish. Also, you won't find some particular effects that are present in other audio editors. But none of this is really significant with my type of work.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

Audacity's beauty lies in in it's simplicity - it does the work but lacks special effects and other specialized plugins.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Audacity as our main program for recording voice-overs for TV news. It's fast and reliable which is key while working with strict deadlines. All of our staff understood Audacity very fast and have no problems using it. It work with a simple USB mixer with no issues whatsoever. The files are exported directly to our editing workstations and then processed by Edius for final exports.

  ### 28. Quick and Easy Audio Editing

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Francis Andrew B. | Rental Equipment Services, Entertainment, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 25, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

Audacity is so simple to use, and supports all of the audio formats and codecs that I need. The software opens quickly, runs smoothly, and handles all of the audio files I use with ease.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

The UI for Audacity is still dated. It doesn't look very modern, which is a disappointment when I am working with a client looking over my shoulder. It is occasionally difficult to find effects I need in the menus, so I find myself using the same effects that I know over and over again.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

Take some time on your own to work with Audacity on a project that doesn't have a deadline. The UI can be a bit confusing to navigate at times, so learning where many of the features are placed and what keystrokes will be most-often used in your workflow early on will help when you make the switch over to Audacity.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I primarily use Audacity for film and video projects that need slight audio work. I use Audacity on the front end of my workflow before I begin editing projects, usually to convert audio files into more workflow friendly formats, or to edit and improve quality of my audio before working on my project. Having software that is dedicated to audio, instead of working within the audio constraints of my normal NLEs allows me to focus on my task at hand without the distractions and extra features that working in an NLE would bring up.

  ### 29. Works well for simple stuff.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Phil N. | 3D Artist, Legal Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 05, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

It's free and does what it is meant to do. Works for simple editing but has more powerful features hidden away.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

The UI is a little drab. Looks a little like a Windows 98 program. It also a little hard to find things, digging through menus is not fun.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

If you need to do quick audio recording or some simple edits Audacity is a good choice.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Audacity is great when I need to do a quick and dirty audio recording. I recently discovered how to clean up recordings with static or similar noise in the background. I'm sure there are other functions I haven't discovered yet.

  ### 30. The best free audio editing software on the planet!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rene V. | Label Owner & DJ /Producer, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 31, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

The fact that you get so incredible much features for editing audio for free, i mean including a lot of effects that you can use, even for mastering audio files!

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

the standard graphical interface is according to my opinion a bit "old fashioned",

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

Try to use the program with all it's features, just dig deep into it and you will find that i really has a lot to offer!

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

at the moment i a trying as a record label owner to earn royalties in as many ways as possible by using several new services.
In a few months time that will hopefully start to pay off.

  ### 31. Best free audio software available to both Mac and PC

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tristan W. | CEO, President, Chairman, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 25, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

I love how quickly one can clean audio (remove background white-noise). Best used for audio vocals and less on the music side of things.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

I dislike the lack of quality "autotuning" this software has... makes it more difficulty for those aren't as vocally gifted. Also lacks important features needed for music mixing.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

Since I started using Audacity I've not been informed of any updates... yes, the software is great. However, I think the creators should continue progressing and implementing new features.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It requires a little bit of "play" with settings in order to clean up white-noise underneath female vocals. This is due to the similar frequency in audio.

  ### 32. Audacity -Review

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Steven S. | Regulatory Compliance PM, Gambling & Casinos, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 25, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

I like the GUI interface, the capabilities of the Audacity. The fact that it is a free opensource program and that it is cross platform makes it a must for people who are needing a program to edit audio with.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

There is nothing I have found that I personally do not like while using Audacity. I can clean up and cut audio with ease.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Audacity to clean up audio we have gathered for our Company's educational videos. One of the benefits that has helped me is the fact it works on Window and Linux PCs and I move from both Operating systems while working on projects.

  ### 33. Easy Peasy Audio Recording Tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 06, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

So very simple to use. So very simple to edit.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

Perhaps, the quality. You get what you pay for, and since it's free to download...

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

You can't go wrong downloading Audacity. Why wouldn't you download a tool that is going to make business easier?

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

A lot of times, we need voiceovers for online training and quick. Audacity is a quick audio editing tool, that allows us to capture audio, edit and place inside of our eLearning modules. It's quick, easy and painless. It's one of the best (and free) tools out there, especially for anyone who doesn't have a lot of money/resources.

  ### 34. Very easy to use and access

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gautam R. | Design Consultant, Design, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 31, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

Ease of use, simple interface and free availability.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

Not much has changed over the years. The final output options are limited, but most times sufficient for a novice user. Not enough upgrades through the years.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

Give it a fair shot. You will find that it fulfils most of your requirements. The only downside might be the filters, which sometimes can be poor. Professional users might want to switch after a while.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Quick mixing and sound handling. Since it is a free and open source software, we have been able to deploy it on multiple devices and platforms.

  ### 35. Light, powerful sound editor

**Reviewed by:** Amanda L. | Au Pair, Education Management, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

Audacity is very user friendly. It is an open sourced software that has many powerful sound editing tools. It makes tedious sound editing tasks very manageable.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

Though Audacity is simple to use, it does have a limited amount of editing features and effects.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

Audacity is very user-friendly but has limited editing capabilities.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Audacity to edit my videos for Youtube. It's a fast way to splice sound together, edit the volume throughout or combine two audio files.

  ### 36. A solid application for simple audio editing

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 15, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

I like the fact that it's one of the few applications that you can get for free for basic sound editing.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

I'm not a fan of the user interface. It's not very intuitive at first but with trial and error you eventually get the hang of it.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

It's a simple tool, with a simple interface that allows you easily make simple edits and effects.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The ability to make simple audio edits without having to use comparable applications that come with a hefty price tag has helped our company save money.

  ### 37. Fun and excellent tool for recording!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Internet | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 03, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

First off, it's free. This should be music to the ears of any beginner recording artist or sound engineer. It's also incredibly simple, easy to navigate, and replete with neat effects. It's an amazing tool for recording songs or remixing ones you already have, as well as toying with sounds you've collected from random sources.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

It's difficult to find faults with such a great, free piece of software. It may lack some deep features that Pro Tools or Logic may carry, but I expect anyone looking for a entry point into audio production to see past that.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

For a good laugh, upload a song you love into Audacity and increase the speed by a good amount.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This is a perfect way for aspiring artists to piece together demos or mixtapes, and I've also used it to record and refine soundbites for use on websites or elsewhere.

  ### 38. Audacity

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Music | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 02, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

To me, Audacity was THE software for beginner recordists that used PC's. The software is pretty self-explanatory.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

Its been a while since I last explored all of its capabilities, but I do remember that all of the tools seemed sufficient at the time. With all of the new editing and mixing tools that have been released in the past few years, Audacity didn't have anything close to those tools.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

It was a great piece of software while I found it useful. I would rather pay for other DAWs out there.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Early on, I used audacity a bunch of times to record and do basic editing and mixing. It was sufficient for the time I used it.

  ### 39. The best, free, easy-to-use, cross-platform audio editing app for over 15 years!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Don C. | UX/UI Designer, Government Administration, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 05, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

Easy to download and install. Whether I'm on a Mac, Windows or Linux machine, Audacity makes it easy - and it exports in multiple formats.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

That is doesnt actually come as part of the OS. Could it also be released as a browser plugin or an online app? The UX of the interface could be a little better. Intelligent automated functions would be nice.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

Try it! You'll like it.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have done recording sessions with it.

  ### 40. Audacity review by evandgraphics

  ### 41. Excellent and intuitive

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alicia C. | Producer/Editor, Broadcast Media, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 25, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

Usually I am editing for time with Audacity. It changes the length without pitch shifting - which my video editing can't do.
Plus it's intuitive and elegant: does its job without being overly fussy.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

Like all simple programs it has its limitations. But I don't find that I need anything more than what it has.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

Great and simple product.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

i use it for two purposes: bringing in audio from vinyl, and editing audio where my video editing program fails. For both purposes Audacity is a simple and clean format and I never feel lost through the design.

  ### 42. Audacity is an awesome program

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Robert P. | Owner/Designer, Media Production, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 02, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

I like love the ease of use for the program. It's incredibly simple to use. I can't stress enough how straight forward it is to use this program.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

Because it's open source, you have to get the encoder for exporting to MP3 format. There are instructions for it in the program, but it's an extra step that needs to be taken.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

It's an excellent program to use for recording and editing audio.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I mainly use it to chop samples for music production. I've also used it for recording multi-track audio as well.

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

It was so easy to use for a person who does not have much knowledge or experience in the music cutting industry.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

I really dont have any complaints. It took a little to figure out but that was because I am a novice.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

  ### 44. Great for anyone without audio editing knowledge

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Architecture & Planning | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 09, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

What I like best in Audacity is that is very easy to start working with it. The first time I tried it I didn't have any kind of knowledge about audio editing, but with a few clicks and a little help of online tutorials I quickly started doing basic audio editing.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

Honestly what I really dislike is the graphic appearance of the program's layout. It could be much improved.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

If someone is getting started in audio editing, I personally recommend Audacity.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I mostly use it to edit audio for my personal videos and also some professional videos about my work. This way I can easily edit the audio to add to my videos, specially if the recordings are a little messed up.

  ### 45. Excellent basic and free program

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Photography | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 25, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

Audacity is a free, share-ware program that has basic features that are generally ample for beginning audio editors.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

Audacity's GUI is a bit old, but extremely functional. Some more sophisticated features are absent, but for a free program, it's ample.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

Don't expect to do too many complicated things through Audacity, but definitely fall back on it for basic projects and quick fixes.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Audacity is a great quick-fix for audio editing projects. If it's something that's too basic for Audition or other more complicated projects, it's the right tool for the job.

  ### 46. Soundtrack magician

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Fine Art | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 01, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

The best thing about audacity, is that you can mix a large number of variety music's. And furthermore you can control the high and low pitches of the music and rearrange them, as you please.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

I dislike the fact that sometimes when'd you cut parts of the music to make improvements sometimes it doesn't fit right. There should be a option that you can solved this problem, like an Synchronizer Of tiny tones that can improve our work.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

I recommend this product to people who are studying arts, because this application can be a life savior.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's a very good program if you are planing to do the soundtrack of films or short films for school, university activities that are important for our future assignments.

  ### 47. Great tool for voice recording!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Management Consulting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 19, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

It's an easy to use interface and gets the job done!

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

It does make assumptions about your knowledge of voice recording. I had to self-training at first.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Voiceover recording for e-learning.

  ### 48. Great audio software but could use some interface improvement

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 04, 2016

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

It is easy to use and it show the fundamental element of sound editing. I can do basically anything with the sound samples.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

The interface of the software can be more appealing and modern, it looks quite old school at the modern, some flat design would be nice.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Sound art installation. Benefits, I'm able to load any sound file I want without any error and straight forward to edit the sound sample. The user experience is very friendly as well.
