You download it , you install it in 2 minutes and it works....
I love that it is a multiplatform application that is free to use, it allows you to record and edit professional audio. Compatible with Ogg Vorbis, MP3, WAV, AIFF, AU, LOF and WMP audio files.

**Reviewed Date:** February 10, 2022

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

Audacity is a super easy tool to edit your audio files. You can crop, merge, add effects, export to different formats. It's a full-featured product, and it's free, which is a bonus.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

There isn't anything I dislike about the product. If you want to export to mp3, you'll need to install an add-on which Audacity guides you through manually. The product looks a little dated.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When I need to clean up an audio file, Audacity is the program I use. It's a free alternative to other paid software, but it still has all the bells and whistles.

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Entertainment | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

Audacity is an A1 software for all audio needs - be it recording or editing audio. The best part about it is that it is absolutely free to use! Moreover, it is not a very heavy software, hence works seamlessly on all operating systems. It is super easy to create new audio, edit a single track or merge different tracks together using Audacity. If you spend some time on this tool, you'll figure out that a lot can be done in terms of audio editing - you can play around your audio and cut, blend, merge it with your voiceovers, etc. You can also change the pitch or speed of your audio. It also offers a variety of effects such as fade in and out, distortion, echo, etc and once you get hold of them, you can turn your audio into something amazing!

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

I have been using this software for a quite a few years now and there isn't really anything that I dislike about it.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a freelance filmmaker, sounds are a very important part of my work. Thanks to Audacity, I'm able to play around with them and get as creative as I can to create something magical altogether!

I use the software to assist with audio recording. I've recently used it to combine separate left and right audio streams into a single stereo file, for example. It's a great tool to have in the audio toolbox.

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer & Network Security | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 22, 2021

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

Incredibly powerful and intuitive for both novices and experts. I am a novice user and have been able to do everything I've wanted easily and on my own. Yet a colleague who is power user finds it great for 90% of his needs. Flexible output options give great flexibility.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

I can't think of anything significant downsides to Audacity. Saving projects in native format seems slow, but that's a minor nit.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

  ### 11. Free Audio Editing Tool

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nandula Sai Ujjwal k. | Aerospace Engineeer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 04, 2021

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

I have been using Audacity for a while now, I generally use it to combine audio tracks or split them. There are also free tutorials where we can get used to the UI and functions but as mentioned, it takes some time to get used to. There are also many features like plug-ins, filters, etc which can be used for various purposes. On top of all, it is free!!

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

Getting used to the UI is a bit time-consuming. When going for advanced features, for splitting tracks, the process becomes a bit manual and time-consuming.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Audacity to track and record my songs. I also use it to convert, combine and split audio tracks.

  ### 12. GREAT SOUND RECORDING SOFTWARE

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kingsley Ijuo O. | OMCR Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 22, 2021

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

Audacity is one of the best audio recording applications that I have ever used. We use it to record audio in our church service, and it works more like plug and play and does not require any particular skill to use it.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

We observe there is minor noise in the output. It would be great if there were noise filtering within the application. Another thing I wish this fantastic software has is a tuning feature.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use audacity to record sounds in our church during all the services.

  ### 13. Great free DAW for new music/audio techs to learn with

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

They recently had some privacy issues come up with their software

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Recording interviews for podcasts or making fast recordings that I can export to another DAW later

  ### 14. Simple interface for a powerful audio tool

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Non-Profit Organization Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 28, 2021

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

Whether a beginner or a seasoned audio tech, the program is simple to use and surprisingly powerful and robust.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

Some of the post-processing tools can be a bit clumsy to learn, especially if coming from other larger programs (Sound Forge).

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

It is very intuitive, but if you have a background in sound tech, be sure to read the supporting documentation (especially post tools).

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Audacity for simple voice-over recordings for trainings and guides. It is quick, reliable, and easy to use while on the road with minimal tech (older laptop). It doesn't require expensive tech and doesn't use a lot of system resources but still gets the job done well.

  ### 15. A good option for free but assembly required

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Luis F. | President, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 06, 2021

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

It's free and powerful. There are many effects and a lot of flexibility with the media type you can use. There is also an ecosystem of plug-ins. There are also a LOT of resources available online to help you learn and use the software. It is likely enough for basic professional use.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

The interface could use an update but considering it is free, it isn't a big issue. I think that also the different settings could have hover explanations of what happens when you alter them. Maybe the tool could benefit from a dummies mode.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

I would recommend only use it if you have the need and patience to learn. There is significant technical terminology you need to familiarize yourself with, though it's all things you can learn through tutorials and research online.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I've used it to fix audio tracks for videos and editing voice recordings and, it does the job. I am tech-savvy enough to understand and dig around the settings and features to get what I need to be done.

  ### 16. A great free audio editor

**Reviewed by:** Zach B. | Digital Solutions Manager, Non-Profit Organization Management, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

This is a free tool that helps me edit audio and podcasts. You can mix tracks, cut and edit audio and you can add effects.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

There's a pretty big learning curve. I feel like this software can do so much, but I have not learned how to best utilize it. It's probably best to do some reading or watch Youtube videos how to best use the software.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Editing and mixing audio for podcasts. I export the audio as a smaller file size that I can add to a podcast feed.

  ### 18. Powerful and intuitive audio editing tool!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Steve C. | Senior Product Analyst, CBAP®, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 18, 2021

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

Audacity is relatively easy to use for the most common audio editing tasks and also has many powerful features available for the experts. It offers many tools for editing and enhancing audio and there is a small learning curve to using its most basic features. I find the user interface to be very clean and easy to understand after just a few minutes of use. I also love that there are so many filters and plug-ins included with the software by default. I also like the fact that the product is free.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

User interface and tools for the more advanced features are less intuitive and can be a bit difficult to grasp at first without reading the documentation and therefore it can take a bit of time to become proficient as using the software. Multi-track recording is not terribly user-friendly. Better help content and tutorials would greatly improve users' ability to get up and running with using the product, especially the more advanced features.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Basic editing and enhancing of audio files. Importing a variety of audio file type and then cutting, modifying volume and applying basic filters to the audio. In some cases, I have also used Audacity to record audio from various sources. I really like the fact that the software is light weight, yet at the same time has very powerful audio editing features for those that are willing to spend the time to understand and master those aspects of the product.

  ### 19. Audacity is one of the best audio recording tools I've ever used!

  ### 20. A great product

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Public Relations and Communications | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 20, 2021

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

Audacity is a user-friendly audio tool that has great features and available audio enhancements. Visually, the audio tracks come to life, making it easy to modify, remove breaths and see exactly what's going on.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

Audacity has done a great job building this tool. It can be challenging to navigate to the audio source you want, but once you understand the program it becomes easy. I have has confusion going from internal audio recordings to mic. Again, it is a matter of getting used to it.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We record audio on a regular basis, using non-professional talent. Audacity makes it easy to clean up audio, change pacing and even pitch to help make a more profession sounding audio track.

  ### 21. Easy to Use System

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 25, 2021

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

I love the ease of usage and the quality of the sound recordings. The system has a ton of features and abilities, some of which I've yet to even use. It makes it easy to remove and cut unwanted sounds picked up and add clarity to your recordings.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

There are almost too many features, not necessarily a bad thing, but the tool doesn't have much for tutorials, those will have to be self-taught or can typically find someone else's insight online on the how to's of using all the offered tools within.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

For general recordings and edits, this is wonderful. to dive into additional features you will have to self-teach yourself the tools within.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am using Audacity for recordings of tutorials. The clarity is key because background sound is not acceptable for what I'm utilizing.

  ### 22. It looks just like it did in 2009, but it’s still really great to use.

The best of all it is totally free to use. There is a large collection of resources for learning Audacity.

It shows potential but it needs more features and bug fixes. Sometimes sound editing features will spoil your sound quality. The interface looks cluttered and beginners can feel frustrated.

we can use it easily. We can change the settings for audio.

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Publishing | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 16, 2020

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

I love the ease-of-use provided by the Audacity interface. In my opinion, it is the best free audio editing software available. I can import audio, record new audio, change the number of tracks, and edit the sound itself all very easily.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

I don't dislike anything specifically about Audacity compared to other audio editing software I have used.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

I think Audacity is a great choice for anyone looking for inexpensive audio editing software. It is easy to use, especially if you take the time to look at the different tools. I would recommend going quickly through the tutorial within the software, watching a couple of introductory videos or reading a couple of introductory articles online, and looking up solutions when you run into a problem. There are so many tools available within the app! Don't settle because you think it will take to long to find one.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Audacity allows student interns in my organization to very easily craft our biweekly podcast. It allows us to spread the word about our print publications without incurring additional cost.

  ### 36. Free, but powerful

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Warehousing | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 14, 2020

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

The cost is a huge factor, it is free. The software has been able to handle virtually every need I have ever had in regards to editing audio.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

There is a slight learning curve to do some of the more complex things. This is easily overcome by looking for instructional videos and there are plenty of them out there as its a widely used program.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

Try it out first before purchasing audio editing software. There are a lot of powerful programs out there and depending on your needs may be worth the purchase, but I have access to a variety of paid programs, and have never had to use any of them because Audacity has been able to handle it all.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have used audacity for years, anything from conference audio editing, to song mixing, and even cleaning up audio defects on recordings due to bad mic or setup. More recently I have been using it to create on hold music and prompts for our new phone system, the ability to export the file in the correct format has allowed us to create our own in house recordings and upload them ourselves, so we were able to ditch the company doing our voice acting and file formatting.

  ### 37. Effective Tool for Audio Editing

**Reviewed by:** sonu g. | Data Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 27, 2020

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

Audacity is a sound clip recording tool that is consumer-friendly and relatively small in size for streaming. It is very simplistic and convenient to use. It has a lot of features, like shifting pace and pitch, that you usually have to purchase to find.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

It appears to be difficult to accommodate all types of files, and it is also not outstanding in consistency, The gui is a little obsolete and a design refresh should be done.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

i am using audacity for removing noise from the audio.

It’s a great starting point for editing audio but not there are much better software out there.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Editing an audio sermon podcast.

  ### 39. A No-Nonsense, Simple, Effective Tool for Audio Editing

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Joey H. | Freelance Writer and Voiceover Artist, Public Relations and Communications, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 16, 2020

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

Audacity was the first-ever audio-editing software I ever tried, and it's still something I use regularly. I really like its ease of use. I host a podcast (shout out to Parks n Wrecked!) and we previously recorded in person, where I could control everyone's audio through an audio interface. However, with social distancing we've had to record remotely. Our cohost is not at all tech-savvy and has a 10-year-old computer. I gave him a USB mic and told him to download Audacity to record and export his audio, and we've had smooth sailing ever since.

It's also got perhaps the best noise removal of a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW)—the Noise Reduction feature allows you to grab a few seconds of audio where no one's talking and remove all of that fuzzy background noise that pops up more than we'd like to admit. An air conditioner running in the background, a noisy motorcycle outside...even just the fan of your computer—they're all easy to clip out with Audacity.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

The EQ and compression options are a little harder to play around with, and the default of snapping audio in place can make editing multiple tracks a bit more complex than it needs to be (still, this can be changed). Every once in a while I'll run into an issue after updating my Mac OS but that's more an Apple concern than Audacity. For a free software, it's very powerful!

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I've used it for podcasts and music—a way to easily capture, edit, and export audio files!

  ### 40. Audacity is a Simple Tool for Novice Engineers and Scratch Recordings

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Howard G. | MC, Producer, & Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 10, 2020

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

Audacity offers a simple workstation with lower system requirements than most recording software. I enjoy the accessibility of Audacity, and the program design makes Audacity easy to use for beginners and advanced engineers alike. I also enjoy Audacity's capability to convert files to mp3 or WAV, a feature not offered by many other free programs.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

I am not fond of Audacity's limitations, and this program may be frustrating to use for more experienced engineers. Editing functions are not precise, and it is difficult to produce a clean recording. Audacity has an array of effects, but these are fairly primitive tools when compared to more advanced DAWs.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Audacity can be used for various recording needs, and the sound quality is clean enough to be of use in certain situations. If an artist or engineer needs a simple recording tool, Audacity is a valuable asset, especially when high-quality audio is not necessary.

Why spend money on audio editing when you can do it for free with Audacity. It's pretty straightforward to use. Can export in different formats. Highly recommended.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

  ### 43. Best sound optimization software

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 02, 2020

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

I love its capability of noise reduction from the audio files.
There are many features available related to sound optimization like trimming, effects, mixing etc.
The plus point is it is free. It supports multiple tracks and batch processing.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

Its user interface needs to be more friendly. Sometimes without documentation, it is hard to do our tasks. Some features are limited to basic only. Need more enhancement in its major features. When we have a large audio file, it hangs a bit and stops working.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

As per cost, it is best in its class. Good for beginners, who have just started editing the videos.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have given feedback to the Audacity team through feedback portals and got positive responses and seen improvements in the latest updates.

  ### 45. Basic, takes a minute to figure out but I like it!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kelly K. | So. Cal Chicago Cubs Scout Team Coach, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 17, 2020

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

It takes a little time to figure out which configs to use but once you do it’s easier to trouble shoot. Editing is quick and easy and it’s easy to do retakes as I’m apt to do. Sound quality is easy to adjust and the results are consistently laudable.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

Configuring it at the outset wasn’t instinctive and at times was frustrating. I suggest YouTube tutorials. Also, make sure you know where the file defaults to because that can create frustration as well. It does take a fair amount of trial and error to master but it’s worth the effort.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

It’s free and it gets the job done. It’s a great intro software for those editing or interested in editing audio. I do suggest trying all features and not limit yourself to just the features you use most.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When I use it to record audio for my podcast or additional audio tracks for videos it’s a good tool to have. It’s just another skill set easy to master

  ### 46. Audacity is EASY!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 22, 2021

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

The simple use is what I Lihue best. There is not much of a learning curve.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

I don't really have many complaints, it was simple to use from a beginner & now a little more seasoned person.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Not having to use Adobe premiere to edit my sound for videos.

  ### 47. Excellent Free Software

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** James A. | Business Education Teacher, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 29, 2020

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

I like that this is available on both MAC and PC devices. I have used it on both and find that it has a very similar interface on both systems. I also like that for a software that does not have a cost for the user, they offer a ton of options that you really only find on expensive recording software usually. It also allows for the instillation of plug-ins and additional resources that can be used with the software. I continue to be impressed by all of the editing features that this software offers. I also like that I can have different mic inputs and switch between them without doing very much work on my part. The software really does most of the work for the user which is fantastic!

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

I had a few issues getting it to recognize my mic on the newest OS for Mac, but I ended up downgrading my OS on the Mac and it now has no problem recognizing the mic. I think that this issue probably had more to do with a problem in the operating system rather than the software, but I noticed that a few other people online had the same issue. It is probably something that would be fixed with an update, but a quick fix was just to downgrade my OS and now it works flawlessly.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

Just spend some time playing with the software and effects to become comfortable with it. Once you learn a few of the basics it becomes very easy to use this software on a regular basis.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am able to record very professional sounding voiceovers for my presentations and videos. I love the editing tools that are presented to the user in this software and have found that by running a few of the effects that I use regularly I am able to quickly record, edit, and save my audio files. I also like that saving an audio file is a very simple and fast process.

  ### 48. Great recording software for new users like me.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

I do not currently have any dislikes for this software.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

As always, read the reviews and you'll find that many users have enjoyed using this software.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am able to record call flow greetings without having to pay for studio time. The quality of output is always good.

  ### 49. Audio edits are a piece of cake with Audacity

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

The privilege to edit the most detailed piece of any audio file.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

I love everything about this software. I guess the look and feel should be enhanced. Theme wise its still the windows traditional layout.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am able to edit my tracks, recordings, mergers, amplifying sounds. Everything vocal is getting resolved with Audacity.

  ### 50. Makes audio sound sharp and professional
