  ### 6. Perfect for Amateurs

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aaron B. | Consultant and Training Lead, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 29, 2022

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

The thing I like best is that it's free, but also the interface is very intuitive, so even if you know nothing about sound editing, you can figure it out quickly, and produce quite decent quality tracks very quickly and without much fuss. The best part is you can now save/explort directly to .mp3, rather than having to install an extra codec or anything.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

So far the only downside I have encountered is when I've got a good recording of some basic audio (for example for doing a podcast or audiobook) something I can't re-record, and there's noise/background noise/interference, and Audacity can't analyse the sounds minutely enough to get rid of that noise effectively. BUT considering that's the kind of thing you'd expect to get with high end expensive sound editing software that you pay for, it's an acceptable shortcoming.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Audacity has allowed me to toy with the idea of producing podcasts or getting into audiobook recording (and in some cases actually do that kind of work) without having to invest in loads of expensive software or equipment to do so.

  ### 7. Medium Learning Curve, but Worth It!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Zach M. | Social Media Specialist + Process and Efficiency Guy 📈, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 18, 2022

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

Audacity is one of the best free software solutions on the internet, period. The level of audio production available in absolutely free software is mind-blowing, with even the slightest knowledge of how to use it.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

For a total amateur, it can be daunting, as the UI is severely dated; once a user grasps the basics, however, the immense toolbox available to users to not only record but edit, enhance, and produce as well as export professional-quality audio is worth the learning curve.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We produce audio content for various social channels, and having the ability to do end-to-end production without needing an outside contractor to achieve quality results is priceless.

  ### 8. Audacity.. best audio editor

in default installing, MP3 Export feature is not available in audacity. i dont know why they didnot provide MP3 Exporting in audacity by default. for mp3 export, we need to install one plugin from inyternet. if audacity has inbuilt mp3 export feature, its more better.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

audacity is a simple tool for audio editing. we also have softwre like adobe audition, etc. but, audacity is lite software. but it has all the features available in adobe audition. and also, audacity is 100% free.

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

The best thing is it is an easy-to-use and free audio editor. It's free and simple doesn't mean it has less features. It's a powerful tool. Can easily use 3rd party Plug-ins. It also supports macros which means I can easily automate my repetitive task easily. Can easily edit audios and add pre-made filters/effects. Support multitrack audio. It also works as an audio recorder and works smoothly.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

A few things I dislike are it supports less format import files. Sometimes it lags when doing audio editing. But it's manageable because it's free.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

If you are looking for an easy and simple but powerful audio editor that this is for you.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Deepak M. | Communications Consultant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 17, 2022

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

Audacity is not only free to use, it has many features that commercial sound editors don't. One of its most useful features is the noise removal tool.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

At some point Audacity began incorporating a feature that sent reports to advertisers. This was a gross violation of privacy. Hopefully that feature has been removed now.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Audacity has helped me create near-professional quality recordings. It is a full-featured audio software that has allowed me to create voice-overs for clients as well as podcasts.

  ### 11. Good Open Source Audio Editor Tool

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sreyas V. | Senior Software Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

The best thing about Audacity is it is completely free and open source. It is very easy to use and is a good place to start if you are into multimedia content creation.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

There is nothing much in my personal opinion to dislike about Audacity as it is fully free and really served my purposes of using it. However, one thing to point out is it does not support Whatsapp voice note record formats like ogg.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am primarily using Audacity when I have to record and edit audio as part of my content creation. It provides a simple and minimalistic approach towards audio editing which in my opinion enriches the whole experience.

  ### 12. Best Free Audio Editor

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lekshmi R. | Software Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 11, 2022

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

Audacity is completely free to begin with and very easy to use from the get-go. Even though it's free, it provides a seamless experience in getting our work done.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

Audacity, in my opinion, is not that compatible with making podcast audios. Also, we cannot tag audio like mp3 and add cover art fields. There is also no option to publish or share audio after editing, we can only export them.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am using Audacity majority for recording narrations to mix with the youtube videos or to mix audios as per my requirement. In both of my cases, Audacity serves me well in achieving what I want.

  ### 13. Audacity gets it done.

**Reviewed Date:** April 19, 2022

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

I liked the ease of learning to use this

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

Easy to use software. My journey in VO work started several years ago and Audacity was one of the programs that were suggested to use. Through watching YouTube videos on the software, I was able to learn enough to not only begin doing VO work, but also audiobook narration. I still have more to learn, but Audacity is very user-friendly and provides a way to put out a professionally accepted product.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

It may take a little time and dedication, but you can learn this software and how to use it to make great audio clips. You can also add music and effects as well. Make YouTube your friend, there are a lot of videos on Audacity you can watch to learn about this.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It took me a while but I finally figured out how to get my audiobook narrations within the specs for ACX. This has allowed me to have several audiobooks now Live and for sale on Amazon and ACX. I have also learned how to make my VO projects better and better as I become more experienced with being a VO artist and more comfortable using Audacity.

Downloaded audio files with extra stuff at beginning or end, or in between two files for example.

  ### 16. A free program that's better than paid ones.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nathan M. | Multimedia and Audio Visual Developer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 10, 2022

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

I've been using this program for more than 10 years. It's ease of use, and power are fantastic. It's easy to clean up audio with noise reduction. It's easy to EQ audio as well.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

The user interface is very straightforward and uses text more than icons which is great but sometimes I wish it was more attractive to look at as I am in it for hours, and sometimes so long that it gets burned into my eyes.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

If you are working within a budget and even if you're not and just want an easy program to get great audio out of, this program is it.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have a quarterly set of recordings at my current position that I use this for and it works fantastically. The fact that it is freeware as well I'd a huge help as I didn't have to get it approved.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David I. | Managing Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

It's a great lightweight audio editor, yet powerful enough to give a professional-grade output.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

The destructive editing when having to clip tracks I would like to have the dynamic cropping available in other paid-for DAWS.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

For the user who is primarily into voice editing, I would highly recommend you give it a try before spending money on expensive DAWS only for the same results.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I do voice edits daily with content from varying sources and therefore differing levels of quality, Audacity allows for quick edits like noise reduction, amplification, EQing and clip merging.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Non-Profit Organization Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 23, 2022

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

Audacity has alwas been my go-to program for basic recording and editing of sound bites, voice memos, song ideas, and meeting recordings. It has a super simple UI and all the basic features.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

Although the UI is very simple, it's not great to look at. The funcionality has never been lacking for what it is, but has also not seen major additions in a long time.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I want to be able to take a meeting recording, audio memo, or song idea; then quickly edit and export it. Audacity does this flawlessly and doubles as a simple recording interface.

Its simplicity, without a doubt. It allows you to do practically whatever you want (edit audio, add effects, remove noise, etc.) in an easy way and, moreover, for free.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

The visual part is very outdated. For me, it's not something important, but I understand that for some professionals it might be a problem.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It allows me to record, cut, and edit my podcast every week. Before that, it also helped me work on the audio for my YouTube videos.

Audacity is very easy to use! It is great for converting vinyl, cassettes, YouTube, etc. to just about any audio format you can need! I use it for MP3 conversion...

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

I am at a loss to find something I don't like - except maybe that it doesn't come with the LAME converter - requires a separate download...

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

Great software - and it is absolutely FREE!!!

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use it to mix radio commercials, record and edit music, and to convert vinyl and cassette audio to MP3. It works flawlessly for these applications.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** KAPIL H. | Intern, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 01, 2022

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

The best thing, I like the most about Audacity is it doesn't cost a penny to download, That's why Audacity has a very large community, Which means you can always get help with your questions on the forums. Also, Audacity is compatible with windows, mac, and Linux which covers almost everybody's computer or laptop. Audacity interface is so clear or easy to understand, there are lots of buttons in the menus but they have grouped appropriately.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

Audacity has minor bugs, what I mean by this is the software does not always operate in the way it should and the next thing, Audacity does not available on android or ios apps which in today's world where people use their mobile phones or tablets more than their computer.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

If you are a beginner at audio editing then the best and easy use software is Audacity. For your audio editing, Audacity has lots of effects like reverb, normalization, etc you can use these effects for free.

As a content creator, it is very difficult to find open-source software that has lots of features. Audacity gave you easy ways to edit your audio file. After using Audacity I feel, I can record efficiently and seamlessly.

  ### 22. Audacity a simple audio editor with lots of capabilities

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Chris B. | Faculty Trainer/Consultant of Learning Technologies, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 05, 2022

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

Audacity is an easy-to-use free audio editor. It does the easy stuff quickly and easily, but also has the capability for more complex multitracking etc. The ability to increase or decrease the length of a track by slowing it down or speeding it up is quite handy.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

Some features are a little hidden under menus. Audacity lacks some of the more complex audio editing capabilities that a studio-level platform would have, but it's understandable given that it is free.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Audacity allows me to easily edit audio files when needed. It's data import option is sometimes useful for recovering files that will not open properly in other platforms.

  ### 23. Free, Easy to Learn and an Extendable Audio Editing Software

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Erdem B. | Senior Industrial Designer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 07, 2022

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

Bes thing about Audacity is that it is free. It is a fun little program with many tools to record and edit your audio. Plus, you can add plugins to increase its capabilities. In addition, you can add VST plugins too. It also supports multiple tracks.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

I wish editing were non-destructive. Unless you use undo, you cannot take back what you do to your audio. It is not a very big deal when working on short clips, but the longer your audio gets, the more difficult it gets to keep track of effects and changes. When you get something wrong, you have to use "undo" until you find the problem.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

I would recommend watching tutorials and demos on the internet to understand the purpose and capacity of Audacity. You should be ready for a lot of trial and error. It is pretty straightforward, and it might seem very limited at first. Due to its destructive nature, I recommend saving incremental files as you go along.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Audacity to create audio for small clips to upload to social media, crop and mix songs for said clips. In addition, I use it to edit audio tracks for my upcoming software tutorial videos.

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

This well-supported, open-source audio editor is completely free to download but has nearly all of the functions of other brand-name audio editor applications, many of which are expensive.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

As with many open-source software packages, you will be sacrificing some user-friendliness and aesthetic appearance when compared to other brand-name audio editors.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

It's free. You can't go wrong trying it out. There are highly-detailed manuals written and curated by Audacity users and coders. If you're having trouble with a specific process, search the Audacity support pages and FAQ for answers, and if you're still out of luck, post in their forums for a quick answer.

There are some audio processes that I will always use Audacity for, despite also being a user of more expensive brand-name audio programs. Because it is so well-supported, issues are patched quickly, and new features are tweaked to make workflow easier and faster.

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Media Production | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 17, 2022

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

You need a multitrack audio editing program? Audacity is used by thousands for a reason. It's freeware, it's open source, and it has plugins galore. While other editors can handle much more complicated tasks, this can make amazing audio with just a little effort.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

But the catch is simple: more than four audio tracks over two hours long each make the program unstable. Don't ask me how I know this. Now, that doesn't have to be as much of a downside. Audacity works great with Ardour (donationware multitrack editor that I use for the cuting and editing of podcasts, while Audacity does my noise cleaning and audio compression before and after my editing in Ardour).

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

I've left a review about Ardour before, and it works great along side Audacity.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am broke. The whole team is broke, and program licenses and subscriptions get super expensive. But being able to spend nothing and give everyone a flexible editing program makes it so everyone can help get content made without crunch.

Perhaps the best thing about it is the fact that it is free. I found it easy to use and quite versatile. from mixing and editing audio to recording and everything in between. Moreover, you can convert and export audio in no time.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

The aesthetic of the interface would benefit from an update. What's more, the settings and commands do not explain their function, making the software hard to understand for beginners.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

I would use it for editing recordings first. Then I would explore the rest of the features.

  ### 42. a lot more powerful than it looks

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Seth Matthew M. | Grad Student, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 14, 2021

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

I love that the design is so understated and that there are so many features, but they are laid out in a very simple way that keeps you from getting overwhelmed or overly distracted.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

The piece of software feels very old when you use it. It's still functions and does everything you need to do in most situations, but it does feel like you're using something for nearly 2000s, and I wish that it were updated in terms of the color scheme.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have been working on prosody-related research for my master's program looking at the intonation of Arabic speakers. Audacity has been invaluable to help me measure the length of utterances and pauses

  ### 43. Solid free tool for music production that lacks some updates

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alex B. | Game Tester, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 14, 2021

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

It's essential to mention that Audacity is entirely free, which is an excellent way for beginners to start recording their music. This is also an advantage over other software solutions for composing audio. It's also reasonably simple and gets the job done.

When I was starting to record my guitar, it was pretty easy to learn the basics and extract my audio, and though I rarely use Audacity now, it would cover almost all of my requirements with complex composing.
It has some basic built-in effects, such as distortion, Wah effect or Reverb.

Honsetly, I'm so glad that without paying a cent you get such an advanced software to record your music or audio!

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

Compatability.
The problems started when I tried to use ASIO4ALL drivers with my Guitar to USB cable. Any VST and DAWs support ASIO today, but not Audacity. I was surprised to discover that Audacity does not support the ASIO drivers. I had to buy an interface, which is a required investment anyway, but my guitar worked perfectly fine with any other software I tried before.

UI.
I know it's free, but if you take a quick look at the app, you will immediately see how outdated it is. Especially compared to Reaper, which is not entirely free, but has a long limit of the free trial.
It's quite simple, but needs an update to 2020, but instead, it's stuck in 2008.

Competitors.
There are simply better apps if you compose on a regular basis. Reaper is the best example of a modern DAW that's easy to use. Don't get me wrong, Audacity is still good, especially considering it's entirely free, but a modern user would almost always choose Reaper, or if they compose regularly pay just a bit to buy Ableton Live, let's say.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am recording my guitar and vocals to create some music. I tried using Audacity initially since it was free but then I switched to Reaper, since it was easier to use and supported ASIO. I need portability, and Guitar to USB is a great way to achieve portability, Audacity doesn't let me use ASIO, so I just switched to Reaper.

  ### 44. A Bit Confusing, But Becomes Easier with Community Help!

It's my first time producing an audiobook and I've heard from so many people that Audacity is the way to go. I liked that it's software that is downloaded to my laptop so I didn't have to rent a studio. The only thing I had to purchase was a new microphone (better quality).

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

It's confusing getting started. I couldn't figure out how to adjust my settings to get the levels right. Luckily I found this Wiki page for audacity. https://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Audiobook_Mastering

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am editing simple audio recordings and using DSP features to generate waveforms and signals. Is it a very lightweight software that runs very smoothly even on older systems.

While setting up our telephone messages and hold system, we needed dependable and low-cost software. Thanks to Audacticy, we can edit any audio files we need without worrying about file formats and compatibility. ### 48. Audio editing could not become simpler

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Subrata S. | VR Developer , Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 20, 2021

Audacity is the best application to start learning audio editing especially for simple tasks, it can not only help edit audio but also helps in creating new audios, Audacity provides a simple interface with a wide variety of features and functionalities to help beginners in editing and creating music.Audacity is open-source and free to use that also makes it more convenient.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

Audacity is a simple app and is targeted towards beginners but this makes it not so useful for doing things professionally which becomes a stalemate, the UI is simple and clean but it lacks in the features and functionalities that a professional audio creator would need and it also does not provides with quick tutorials to help make the experience easier for beginners.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

if someone is looking to learn audio editing this is one of the good options

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Audacity helps us a lot in creating a lot of different types of audio that can be used in simulations, games or even other applications that are not exactly audio-focused. Audacity has also helped us since it is free to use and easy can be learned by many people who are even remotely interested in audio creating and editing. Audacity has also helped in audio conversion especially from a mp3 to a format specific to an application.

  ### 49. An Awesome Audio Editor

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Anurag J. | Assistant Manager Instructional Designer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 20, 2021

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

I have been using Audacity for the past 5yrs now & this has helped me make Audio editing feel a breeze. I have loved the noise reduction capability of the software as I used to record voiceovers with a lot of background noises such as the humming of Machines, Car horns, People speaking.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

The UI of the software is nomad, I wish they ramp it up to the new UI style at least.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

If you want a tool that does it all when it comes to Audio editing.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have loved the noise reduction capability of the software as I used to record voiceovers with a lot of background noises such as the humming of Machines, Car horns, People speaking.

  ### 50. Audacity overview

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Electrical/Electronic Manufacturing | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 14, 2022

**What do you like best about Audacity?**

Audacity is free! It has many effects used in top-line software. It is so easy to use and figure out quickly. It can export to an MP3 or Wave file. It will work with external microphones and DI boxes for using your favorite microphone.

**What do you dislike about Audacity?**

If you are not familiar with the layout, you will always need to check your input and output settings, or this will cause an echo or bad reverb issue. I went into an environment where they thought they were using a USB microphone, never checking the settings, and recording voiceovers on a USB camera instead. The effects work well for free, but if you are looking for more precise editing, you will need to upgrade to better software.

**Recommendations to others considering Audacity:**

Being a professional audio engineer, I use and recommend Audacity to those who want a free option to record and complete basic audio edits. It is a great stepping stone to larger platforms such as Audition, Logic X, and Pro Tools.

**What problems is Audacity solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Audacity for voiceovers for training videos. It is quick to connect my hardware, open the program, and hit record. I can do simple edits and export as an MP3 and add to a video. It saves time and produces an excellent quality product.
