I have been using ATLAS.ti since 2019 and I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for an intuitive CAQDAS. I've trained to use other competitive tools but ATLAS.ti stands out for several reasons: it costs less for a student license; the control is totally in the researcher's hand; the tool interface is intuitive; the developers regularly update the software to respond to glitches and the visualisation keeps getting better with the 23 version. I have used it to analyse literature (even if it is merely to read; ATLAS.ti's advantage of annotating and retrieving codes is helpful), news article clips (over 300 for my PhD), interview transcripts and Facebook comments (over 3000). The almost yearly upgrade of the software into a newer version appears to be chasing the market rather than demand. It doesn't feel alright that previous license owners are required to buy newer versions rather than simply upgrading their licenses. I had this issue when v9 was upgraded to 22. I really like that it serves to handle large amounts of data without complication. Additionally, it has a very intuitive and easy-to-use interface, with support tools for researchers. I was introduced to ATLAS. ti a few years ago, and the first thing that struck me was its ease of use and impactful facilitation of the coding process that is at the heart of any good qualitative study. A well-coded data is a gold mine that throws some ground-breaking and powerful interpretation and construction of meaning and perspectives to the research phenomena. Coding is an iterative process, often they get written, rewritten and refined as more and more transcripts get read for coding. As you start coding in ATLAS.ti, the codes get saved, the list of already existing codes show up every time you code a new piece of data segment. This saves a lot of time as you would have otherwise spent going back and forth previous transcripts, looking up the codes you had already given while coding manually.

ATLAS. ti also allows merging or splitting of codes at any point while coding the documents and automatically updates the previously coded documents with the updated codes. This ease of coding allows any number of iterations and reflective re-coding of data possible resulting in an unbiased, thoroughly thought set of codes that would lead to a meaningful interpretation of qualitative data. There aren't many downsides to the sofware. While the networks, code co-occurence tables and code- document tables help quantify the number of times a code o-occurs with other codes, the Sankey diagram is a fancy diagrammatic representation only. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

ATLAS.ti has always been at the forefront of software for qualitative and mixed research, but version 22 has exceeded all expectations and previous editions. The processes of creating a project, adding data sources and coding them is very simple, and functionalities for automatic searching and coding have been added and improved. The new functions to incorporate data from social networks is also very useful, considering that many researchers work with this type of source. Finally, the icing on the cake is the multiple ways to visualize the data, a feature appreciated when you want to identify and discover patterns in the data that are not identifiable at first glance. This process is professionalized with ATLAS.ti, it becomes rigorous and reliable, because finally, it can account for a graphic, visual structure that allows for the development of a consistent discourse.

ATLAS.ti has options to create reports by citations and codes, which facilitate the construction of the state of the art report and provides visual elements such as networks and Sankey diagrams that are very illustrative. I discovered ATLAS.ti during my master's degree and have been using it ever since. The tool allows for the organization of qualitative data and the application of research methodologies (in my case, I use content analysis) for the production of research, articles, theses, and dissertations. I also had experience in producing an analysis of an internal satisfaction form for a parent company and its affiliates using the tool. The program is practical, fast, and works very well. I consider that everything is based on the measure of my demands as a researcher and I have not found any problems. In fact, I have seen improvements in its development that significantly aid in the analyses. Since version 5.32, ATLAS.ti has continuously updated and provided the best tools for qualitative analysis, especially since the emergence of social networks. On the other hand, the support material and help are abundant and timely. The learning curve is not steep, allowing analysts to quickly use the program in their projects. As a trainer, I can say that opinions are heard and many user requests are incorporated into new versions.

The web, Mac, iOS, and Windows versions complement each other seamlessly, and for the user, transferring their project to another platform does not pose major difficulties. The interface is comfortable and easy to use. In this sense, teamwork is not complicated once initial agreements are reached.

At this moment, it seems to me that the trial version and its time limit do not allow users and/or trainers to use them in exercises for learning the tool.
