What do you like best about Atlan?

This tool went from "sweet spot of value proposition and very competitive with awesome customer experience" to

"This is hands down the best solution for data governance".

In the last two years, I've seen so much growth with constantly new and useful functionality that now my actual view of the tool changed, to me this tool is a "must-have" for a successful data warehouse, it not only helps to solve the data governance challenge but also servers other painpoints, a simple example is the lineage, for my use case it is so well built that I can drastically reduce time for doing impact analysis before changing any DB objects.

I could give a lot more examples but the most remarkable fact to me is that they never lost their track, with the glossary of terms, approval system, navigation experience and linked resources, they really nailed the solution for the classic data governance any Data Warehouse has these days and on top of that they never lost impeccable customer support. What do you dislike about Atlan?

What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?

This software nails data governance and can do lineage from Tableau to your Data Warehouse and if you are on ELT, it does crawl solutions like Fivetran so now you can have FULL lineage to your very source tables from your OLTP DB. We are pretty happy with the results because the features offered not only addressed our primary needs, you can use it for many other things, the user experience is awesome, and the customer service is outstanding. 1. Rich data lineage with easy setup and readability

2. Automation capabilities to propagate data tags are user intuitive and easy to configure

1. Submitting issues and enhancements is easy but often results in limited insight into the path to resolution from the support team

2. Out of the box reporting capabilities exist but have a significant opportunity for improvement

What do you like best about Atlan?

Atlan is easy to get up and connected to several critical sources right out of the gate. In addition, we have found the usability of the frontend 2nd to none as several users have had no issues getting into the tool and finding value. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Atlan?

Currently Atlan does not integrate with some of the tool we require such at Quicksight but we know they are working towards resolving this. In addition, as there are multiple ways to accomplish the same thing it is not always clear which is the best practice so having a bit more clarity on things like that would be great Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Atlan?

When working with Atlan, I really liked how easy it was to set up, integrating seamlessly with our modern data stack. Their support has been great - it was very easy to get in contact with relevant people and they even helped us set us to shape our thinking around governance. What do you dislike about Atlan?

It's a great product, but I'd like to see more functionality to help us prioritise our governance efforts - e.g. getting a better handle of search queries that are conducted within Atlan. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?

- We are a financial institution, and compliance is essential for us. Atlan helps us to significantly reduce the effort needed to comply with GDPR and localisation laws

- Atlan makes it significantly easier for us to understand the lineage of dbt-tables into looker. This helps us to optimise costs as well as identify potential impact before making changes to data architecture.

- Atlan made it significantly easier for users to identify what data means in our organisation. For us, this has been especially relevant for event data sets. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Atlan?

Atlan has unlocked visibility in to data previously unavailable to us. Through the lineage feature and plentiful integrations, we can more easily answer questions about where each dataset goes and what it's used for. Combined with the world class support that the Atlan team provides, Atlan enables us to have a better handle on the breadth of data that we have internally. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Atlan?

As an early customer of Atlan, there were some growing pains with features that weren't fully baked yet or didn't have the bugs hammered out. As the company and product expands, I'd like to see more fully-fledged documentation that describes the full picture of the features. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?

Previously, we had difficulty understand what data gets used where and Atlan's lineage and documentation features help analytics users understand what feeds each dataset. Before, it was a complex web of finding what report used this table, which stored procedure loads it, and when the table was last updated. Atlan's integration with dbt and Tableau means that we can spend significantly less time investigating and more time developing. Additionally, data scientists have a central repository they can use to understand what data exists in our ecosystem which reduces that number one painpoint in data science-- getting the data! What do you like best about Atlan?

Atlan has decreased the time it takes to research our internal data sources and the relationships data within our warehouses. As a data engineer, it's also alleviated our team of being the single source of knowledge for the definitions of our data. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Atlan?

There's a query option within Atlan that I don't have much use for. The data preview is extremely useful, but any sort of query development is much better served or accomplished with another tool that we have because those other tools are more robust. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?

When I look at data within our data warehouse, I sometimes do not know the definitions of specific metrics or the source. The data dictionary within Atlan forces us as engineers to take the design thinking we used to build pipelines, data tables, views, etc and define it for the larger organization. It also supports historical data understanding and architecture to make decisions for new products that we engineer for our stakeholders. What do you like best about Atlan?

It has a lot of different features and every feature is super useful. What the greatest aspact is, is their service. They have very custom and quick support and I would definitly recommend Atlan! The masterclasses and tips & tricks are also super useful. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Atlan?

I don't dislike anything. What could improve a bit more is the stability of new features. Since development is quite fast sometimes features could use a bit more time to test without bugs. What do you like best about Atlan?

One of the best things about Atlan is they have not treated us like a customer, but as a partner from the very beginning. What I mean when I say that is, they have had check-ins with us and our team, proactively seeking feedback and ways they can make improvements to better help us accomplish what is important for our team. We have never had such a positive relationship with a customer success manager as we do with Atlan from any other software before. Another great thing is its ability to seamlessly integrate into software/tools that we are already using, like Google suite, Snowflake, Fivetran, dbt, Salesforce, Jira, Slack, and Tableau... What do you dislike about Atlan?

There was definitely some confusion for us in the beginning with the language that Atlan uses to talk about governance - purposes, policies, personas... lots of alliteration there made it easy for us to confuse how they should each be used. But the support team is VERY responsive - I mean we have a response within 15 minutes - and they are eager to help and better the experience and the product overall. What problems is Atlan solving and how is that benefiting you?

We had a bit of a documentation and transparency problem with our data before Atlan. They have enabled us to build more credibility with colleagues because they are now more easily able to see where the data is coming from, how it's being defined, what queries are being used to capture certain metrics, how we're defining those metrics, and more!
