It is built on Novo Solutions' ShareNet cloud platform and is used across departments including public works, highways, utilities, and community development. NovoGov is designed for small and mid-size municipalities that are moving operations off paper, spreadsheets, and disconnected tools. Staff configure their own forms, fields, record lists, and reports without programming, so the system maps to each department's existing workflow. The platform is web-based and includes a mobile app, allowing field crews to receive work, update jobs, capture photos, and close requests from a phone or tablet. Residents submit and track service requests around the clock through a branded web and mobile portal, with automated email and SMS status updates. Local governments use public works software to manage public buildings, spaces, and services, as well as public assets and infrastructure. Public works software helps local governments keep local buildings and infrastructure safe for citizens. It can also help improve community development by managing important infrastructure projects. Public works solutions can reduce operational costs by optimizing asset and personnel allocation.

While basic asset management features are usually included, integration with [CMMS](https://www.g2.com/categories/cmms), [EAM](https://www.g2.com/categories/enterprise-asset-management-eam), or [facility management](https://www.g2.com/categories/facility-management) is also offered for complex needs. To manage communications with citizens, public works software often integrates with [CRM](https://www.g2.com/categories/crm), [customer service](https://www.g2.com/categories/customer-service), or call center solutions.

To qualify for inclusion in the Public Works category, a product must:

- Track assets, buildings, spaces, and infrastructure that the local government is responsible for
