I love that USU is customized for our company, allowing us to have our logo and choose the colors and layout we wanted. This makes our company feel like it's ours and gives our employees a sense of having something created for their needs. It helps us answer our daily customer questions in a timely manner. The transition to USU was smooth, which was a relief. Given these aspects, I'd give it a strong recommendation.

Reporting could be an area for improvement when we pull data on articles being open the data doesn't match what we are testing.

This monitoring platform delivers a consistent experience on both Mac and PC. The depth of its analysis, along with its overall reliability, is genuinely exceptional. I also appreciate that it can integrate with my RMM and pull the data I need.

With this platform, I’m able to identify and recover unused software licenses. The features are exactly what we were looking for, and it fits our needs perfectly. I honestly don’t have anything negative to say—everything has worked smoothly and without any issues.

We use it to monitor the status of computers, such as malware and hard drives. We also us it to monitor backups. It is capable of thoroughly processing and analyzing data and provides clear reports on all incidents related to any problem in advance.

**What do you like best about USU?**

I really appreciated how it can automatically apply usage metrics from top manufacturers to our inventory data. This feature is unmatched. I also enjoy managing remote desktop and contact center software licenses with it. USU does more than just count software licenses and installations—it also identifies underutilized licenses, allowing us to collect and reallocate them, which leads to budget savings.

The initial setup was quite complicated and demanded a considerable investment of our internal resources.

USU is considered the industry standard. It delivers the level of detail and algorithmic rigor that we required. Although the implementation process was complex, the platform has proven to be very useful and offers the features we needed for our Asset Management tools. I like that I can observe the environment and perform various sandbox activities. It also has the ability to handle large volumes of data and generate reports with good product content. I also like that it has many of the features we need to get up and running right away, such as covering license types and metrics.

After having seen other tools with the same purpose, I still think that USU is one of the best and I have nothing negative to say about this platform, I love working with it and everything I have been able to achieve thanks to it.

I like it primarily because it is feature-rich, they really put effort into taking feedback into account and improving their product. I also like that although it requires a bit of effort, it can be customized to meet the needs of most organizations and their asset management requirements.

The operation of USU, since we started using this platform, has been excellent. For some of the people without IT experience, it was a little overwhelming at first, but in a short time everyone adapted perfectly.

One of the main reasons we chose USU is because it gives us the ability to manage all of our different data sources in one place, without having to buy another detection tool. It has allowed our internal department to manage the platform and tailor its services to our specific needs.

**What do you like best about USU?**

I really like the Easy App Integration feature. And I love that cumbersome tasks have been automated, greatly reducing the time and effort required for manual checks. It's a great place to have a good support system and be able to respond immediately.

**What do you dislike about USU?**

I would like to see the sorting and filtering features be easier to use. I would also like to see better quality control because sometimes the filters don't reflect or behave differently.

**What problems is USU solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With formerly Aspera it is now easier to see which items are installed in which room. I find this very useful, especially the ability to delete accounts etc. From the Formerly Aspera screen. This tool allows us to identify and delete unnecessary accounts, avoid mistakes when deleting former employee accounts and ultimately reduce costs.

Formerly Aspera is an amazing tool which helps to discover all the attributes like servers, IP addresses and all the details related to the servers. I also like that it is used in projects during sales phases to discover the client environment for solution design.

**What do you dislike about USU?**

I think it would be nice to have more disk storage. Also, the price may be a bit high for some small businesses. Apart from these two comments, I have nothing else to add, the tool does its job.

It is very easy to install, configure and maintain, so it is not a problem to adapt to the use of this software. It is an incredible program that allows you to know, practically in real time, the status of your company's IT assest.

I like that this tool makes it easy to use and track the lifecycle of our assets. And I love that the team is always on top of new features and announcements. Formerly Aspera has been a helpful tool to ensure everything stays organized and accouted for.

I sometimes find that deployment takes a bit longer to reach production. And I find that the documentation could be more accurate and up-to-date for integrations and complex workflow development.

This tool is great as it is a combination of hardware and software assets. Flexibility and simplicity are key features of this tool. Designed in a way that saves time and effort, it does not require much manual work. We have been able to recognize our warehouses and assets with ease.

I love that their agentless scanning capability is quite strong in capturing all the necessary information. I also like how you can drill down from the user profile to support and see what network they are connected to.

**What do you dislike about USU?**

I think the interface could be updated a bit and the control are not axactly intuitive. In addition, this tool requires administrator-level privileges to collect information, which creates security issues.

Formerly Aspera is an amazing tool to use. It is also easy to use and sends the agent to retrieve updated information from each workstation in real time or on a schedule. And I find it to be a powerful system for automatically retrieving a lot of information about a device.

It's easy to use and formely Aspera's customer support has been exceptional. Formerly Aspera is one of the most user-friendly tools on the market to date. The time it takes from onboarding to getting results is really short.

**What do you dislike about USU?**

I have no negative feedback on formely Aspera. It does what it says. It works. It saves me a lot of time, so I can speed up client work and be more efficient.

**What problems is USU solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Its culture projections are a great help and so is the quality of its people! It is also very useful for processing and manipulating software and hardware inventory data. Moreover, its unique features help increase productivity and improve asset visibility.

The software is very customizable, I love being able to store and document everything in one system. It allows us to streamline asset movements. It can be used for many use cases with reliability.

The software may not offer the customization options you would like. Some features may not work properly.

All the features that have been added have been implemented perfectly, it works very well and is quite intuitive. The software is easy to use for any type of user. It has a very simple but efficient graphical user interface.

**What do you like best about USU?**

Its user interface is user friendly and intuitive allowing a new user to learn it relatively quickly.  The front-end is relatively easy to navigate and the data is easily exportable to a number of useful formats. My Dashboard has a lot of useful information including metrics that give an good snapshot of SAM. The tools gives you up-to-date information and is meant to be used frequently.

**What do you dislike about USU?**

The tool uses multiple data sources and this can result in data duplication. Integrating this tool with other software can be challenging. This tool requires specialized knowledge to implement, and if you don't have the right knowledge it can be challenging.

**What problems is USU solving and how is that benefiting you?**

USU solves many of the problems of modern SAM (Software Asset Management)  including compliance, license usage/consumption, license entitlement, effective license position (ELP). The greatest benefit is that you have all the required information in one place, so you don't have to go hunting for the information in different places. The tool give you a complete and accurate and up-to-date view of your software licensing and software usage.

We do see some struggle from agents in utilizing the search features. We have had to train agents on how to utilize the tool as they were assuming a more "Google like" search experience.

The system itself works fantastically and has completely changed how we do Knowledge Management for the better. It is now so much esier to make updates, and receive feedback from all users to make sure that all necessary knowledge is housed in the system.

Although they are based out of Germany they have reps in the US as well so we can always get the support we need.

Version control is probably the most important thing here. So long as it is managed correctly, there is always confidence in saying, "if you search and read it on USU, that is the most current information. Do not reference it in narratives if you can't find it anymore."

You can embed HTML documents with some restrictions.

**What do you dislike about USU?**

The UI is a bit clunky and seems out of date. Cannot embed things like tableau reporting or any HTML with javascript. Formatting of the documents is labor intensive to keep a consistent format. Formatting text, in general, needs alot of help.

**What problems is USU solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Keeping everyone on the same page, getting announcements out consistently about updates and, most importantly, mapping out each of our processes step by step with all decision tress.

USU has an excellent toolset. I like that it has different reports and views to gain insights into the data and nothing is a "black box". You can figure out why a product calculated the way it did. It's also very flexible to allow for various data inputs, complex or customized licensing, and analysis on more efficient ways of licensing or adjusting the footprint.

**What do you dislike about USU?**

It is difficult to use if the staff isn't knowledgeable. Its flexibility is an asset given the nature of licensing, but for those who only want a quick analysis on simplistic licensing it's probably not the best choice.

**What problems is USU solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The company has benefited greatly from having the USU tool as well as the managed services. It's been very helpful to have these views and insights into data in order to highlight where data may be lacking or conflicting so it can be improved. **What do you like best about USU?**

The easy to use interface.  The precision of demand calculations especially for Windows & SQL Server on server virtualized environments.  The governance of how the catalog works helps understand the exact rights per part numbers on the market. The scheduling reports are also a nice feature.  The clear path of a raw signature to its normalization to an effective demand is easy to navigate.

**What do you dislike about USU?**

I would love to see a UI API feature to configure and set up recurrent data imports from a client user admin point of view.  The import feature is nice for one-off massive data load, but setting an API requires a little xml programming knowledge.  Maybe there's a way but I haven't really explored how to yet...

**Recommendations to others considering USU:**

Gather all your data sources and clean your license repository before importing them in the tool.   Make sure your discovery team, network team, data sources owners and sysadmin are implicated in the integration and from an operational side once implemented.

**What problems is USU solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It reduced our compliance risk and exposure to a level of precision I wasn't able to accomplish with any other SAM tool yet.  Even when verified by auditors, the data normalization is very well managed and greatly reduces our exposure.  The optimization module also helps identify the datacenter actions that can be taken to either reduce our compliance risks or influence architecture changes to optimize our current entitlement usage.  It helped consolidate all of our discovery data sources as true sources of data.

We found the open data architecture to be the best option for us.  We didnt need another discovery tool for SAM initially.  But now that we're maturing, we're looking at additional tooling to help with augmenting our data with enriched information/catalogue data around our SaaS, PaaS and IaaS management and finops.

**What do you dislike about USU?**

The Knowledge Base is usually a paid subscription past your first year, but if you ask, they will usually give it for free.

**Recommendations to others considering USU:**

This is by far the most powerful tool in the market.  It gives you the most capabilities around creating custom recognition and reconciliation engines.  The data is simple to extend to include new elements, and there's a ton of out of the box connectors so you don't have to rely on introducing new discovery sources - unless you have to because your current sources are insufficient.  However - it's also the most powerful tool on the market - so some organizations find it too much too soon if they're just starting out.  Thankfully, there's an extensive services and customer success team to help you get up to speed fast - and they care about building long term relationships to support organizations while they mature into the power of their capabilities.

**What problems is USU solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We've saved more than $4M in actual cost savings/cost avoidance in the last year.  We are using the tool day to day to fulfill software requests from inventory and identify if we need to buy more licenses, managing compliance, running harvesting campaigns, as well as major annual renewals/true up etc.  We've just started using the information to assist with IT visibility for our Risk and Security teams, and used the data in LiMA to support our ISO and SoCs compliance reporting which we were able to do in days rather than weeks.

The upsides of using USU is that the solution is highly customizable and you can really have the tool do whatever you want it to do, depending on the license metrics you own and the capabilites of discovery sources at your organization.

One challenge that we have is the number of options that we have when configuring signatures, creating product use rights, etc. Having a pre-selected or OOTB configuration for common products (MSFT, IBM, Oracle, etc.) as a starting point would be really helpful. 

Another limitation is that you need to know software licensing to use the tool well. Not all users of the application will have SAM knowledge coming into their use of the tool.

**What problems is USU solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have been able to report on software license compliance for 50 software vendors. This has provided a granular look at license compliance as well as high-level views for leadership.

Choose USU if your looking for a strong all around SAM tool capable of a highly optimized level of maturity with a strong Return on Investment (usually centered around your Big Rock vendors of IBM, Microsoft, SAP, Oracle, Adobe).

Server side software compliance is managed with USU. SAP User assignments, IBM PVU, Red Hat, Java, Windows Server, SQL, etc.  Compliance reports can even be autogenerated to specific e-mail addresses (such as the Server team).

The data validation process guarantees that all required fields are met to properly report license positions.   Internal processes are under review for improvement to collect the data promptly.

Some of  the most knowlegeable software license analysts in the world.  I was challenged with thinking out of the box to find a tool that is five-tens years ahead of its time. USU (SmartTrack) is the tool.
