What do you like best about Ardoq?

Ardoq software lets us:

- effectively manage a complex architectural landscape

- connect, document and query data across different architectural domains by using the power of the graph technology

What do you dislike about Ardoq?

Overall, we are happy with the Ardoq tool. One issue that we would like to address is compliance with the WCAG 2.0 requirements and universal design. Some visualizations do not fully comply with universal design principles and WCAG -standards but we hope that Ardoq will address and solve this issue in the near future. What problems is Ardoq solving and how is that benefiting you?

Just knowing how many IT-systems we had, how they were connected, how much they cost and who were responsible for their operation and maintenance, and conveying this information through the Ardoq tool to the whole organization in a comprehensible way, was a big benefit for us. The possibility to query the graph database gave us new insights and enabled a completely new level of structure and support for better decision making; decisions based on accurate facts.

One of our main challenges was collection of EA related data from the whole organization and keeping it up to date. This task got much easier when we started using Ardoq’s survey module. By hiding the EA complexity and Ardoq models behind a set of simple and goal oriented surveys or forms, we were able to collect and maintain data that was spread across different organizational units, and to put it into structures that we defined in Ardoq. The use of Ardoq surveys and dynamic presentations helped us enable better collaboration across organizational functions, better convey enterprise architecture concepts, and thus achieve broader organizational engagement.

Recommendations to others considering Ardoq:

Community! Rely on your community of experts around your organization to help build your architecture.

The best way to do that is to delegate architecture around your organization.

To ensure that everyone speaks the same language and models the same way, ensure that all architectural spaces have the same model.

(Application architecture for team 1 is the same model as for team 2, business architecture for team 3 is the same model as for team 4).

So that there are not too many "fingers in the pie", make sure that users have write access to the spaces they are the subject matter experts for and read access to other spaces.

Then use a community of practice to request, approve and introduce model changes for the whole community.

What problems is Ardoq solving and how is that benefiting you?

We initially used Ardoq specifically for modelling applications architecture to figure out as-is and to-be states after a significant change to our technology landscape.

We are now using the tool to do cost/benefit analysis of solutions, trace privacy information from source to destination and also to define a standard language for discussing technology models.

While the presentation function is great to share life-url's of the data in Ardoq with any possible stakeholder audience, I wish there would also be a stronger export function to PowerPoint? I would definitely recommend Ardoq when you are looking for a Enterprise Architecture tool. The best thing to learn the power of the tool is by using it. The Ardoq team provide great support, it's easy to derive value very quickly in terms of EA outcomes and the flexibility of the tools offers endless possibilities for creating new models to capture information and drive out insights. Data driven visualisations provide instant interactive presentations for direct review with all stakeholders from C suite to architects. The vendor is highly responsive in answering questions, addressing concerns, assisting with modeling and reporting to enable you to as productive as possible. What do you dislike about Ardoq?

There is very little to dislike other than some organisational scalability niggles which are being addressed. The fact we use the tool across 40 plus countries provides some challenges around managing data and country level models, but these are being addressed through improvements in functionality. We are using ardoq for application baselining, future state modeling, EA benefits realization, EA management reporting, application lifecycle management, standards adherence, project identification for consolidation and risk and cost reduction, M&A due diligence tracking and reporting, architecture management and KPI reporting. We are also using the tool as our single source of truth for all EA related work and the survey functionality combined with dashboards ensures that all countries are engaged and responsive to EA activities. What do you like best about Ardoq?

Ardoq is our first experience of using an EA tool, we have previously relied on spreadsheets to manage resource catalogues and Visio, Word, etc to generate visualizations and working documents. It' s been pretty straightforward to upload data directly from our spreadsheets into Ardoq and start working with it straight away. It has a rich set of visualizations out of the box, which can be captured and exported as dynamic presentations. It provides survey functionality as a way to get SMEs to review and update information without them having to interact directly with the application, and there's some nice dashboard features to let you know where there are gaps in the data . What do you dislike about Ardoq?

What do you like best about Ardoq?

There are many things I like about Ardoq. You can manage it by having only a few admin users and then obtain data by offering intuitive surveys to all other employees in the company.

As Ardoq provides a unique overview of what a company does and offers, it provides the opportunity to present this in many insightful ways.

Since it is data driven, it is easy to maintain as all changes can be updated in one place.

Ardoq can model and organise anything! It's great for letting stakeholders self-serve on current-state landscape and impact analysis. It really is a one-stop shop for keeping track of EA, Enterprise risk, process portfolio management. The company is incredibly responsive - with support built into the product itself. Because you can do anything ten different ways, you really have to focus on standards - consistent setup and helpful ways to get data in. Ardoq helps e.g. Excel input, UI, Surveys, API. What problems is Ardoq solving and how is that benefiting you?

Ardoq keeps track of my architecture development plans, business and technical capability catalogues, technology lifecycle, application catalogue, roles and business organisation maps, and our integration and system landscape - without relying on manual drawing and diagramming. The benefit is huge as it lets you drive value out of your models rather than having them sit stagnant in a traditional repository. And we're working towards improving this further by automagically bringing in information from the live environment (service deployments, people & role etc) - so that your EA is just there in front of you. It essentially lets us punch above our weight (so to speak) by letting our EA's focus on value delivery to stakeholders rather than keeping diagrams up-to-date.
