I love the centralized management console of StorageCraft ShadowControl. I can in 2 clicks know if one of 500 servers has had a backup in last 60 minutes. I also love the deployment automation - I can setup 30 servers in 15 minutes. I've been using this product for almost 10 years and after working in Acronis, VEEAM, DATTO, Barracuda, BackupExec (ugh, but tape solution 8 years ago), and Altaro, I've enjoyed working in StorageCraft and Altaro the most. ImageManager is a breeze to do offsite backups in. It also can pre-stage recoveries just like DATTO and Barracuda with snapshots proving recoverability. Very easy to do file recovery and granular restores out of Exchange Mailboxes is really easy too. VirtualBoot makes full server restores quick. HSR allows for backup chain to be converted to VHDx or vmdk, etc. Workstations, Servers - physical and virtual. While their new product allows for host level backups like VEEAM or Altaro, I personally love the direct VM backup not touching the host's resources as much as those other products. Last thing I'll say as I read through these comments is that many negative comments simply are not true. It appears the admin didn't understand the product so they couldn't do the thing they wanted. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Arcserve ShadowProtect SPX? Differentials are likely the least helpful thing. If a server crashes in the middle of a backup, the next backup is a differential instead of incremental. On large data sets, this backup can take 2-3 days to complete. It's rare, but when it happens, it's a total pain and makes me frustrated to lose that much RPO. But just don't have your servers crash, and then you don't have this problem! hehe By the way, my understanding is this is a VSS issue and less so a storagecraft issue. Having said that I haven't had this issue in the other products... yet. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What problems is Arcserve ShadowProtect SPX solving and how is that benefiting you? I can easily report on the health of backups. I can very quickly audit backups using ShadowControl's "drive protected" feature (most other solutions require further drill in's taking much longer time). Most importantly, I can always recover. Also I love that I can benefit from hosting my own cloud. The cost benefit analysis is incredible compared to costs of hosting with the vendor. Altaro, Acronis, and VEEAM are great with this as well. Oh, speaking of all those vendors, ShadowControl is the only "rmm for backups" I've found to truly be a single pane of glass (although to be fair it's been a bit for a review of VEEAM and Acronis - probably like 2019) - but if I wanted workstations, physical servers, AND virtual machines all in one place, I couldn't find it in another backup solution, the reports/console did not have them all in one place. I heard the sound from many of them ShadowProtect SPX is not for beginners. But I did not experience and any hurdles. Might be a lot of wizards to use it for more features. It has virtual boot features, letting me boot a backed-up system on another machine and get my work done. ShadowProtect is very fast, incorporating an image-based backups of hardware with its partitions. It surely meets the standards of our organization and larger enterprises as well. I highly recommend this software for industries that are relatively larger with technical support teams that basically knows the way around of various software. Overall, ShadowProtect provided our enterprise with a backup software that is very reliable, effective, fast, and covers full protection. Hard to find something I don't like about it. We had a couple of very old PCs that couldn't run it because running backups killed performance. But like I said those were very old PCs. The smooth and user friendly interface. It, as a whole, provides a very easy to use experience, with all aspects of the service clearly laid out - the visual aspect has tenacious attention paid to it, and really gives little to no difficulty in day to day use, or even at setup. The requisite of purchasing from a reseller, rather than being able to easily purchase directly from the company. It took us several weeks before we were able to obtain use of the service, which I believe is more hindering to a business than of any use. The setup period is also going to be a point of issue for those not versed correctly in high end, large scale IT solutions. Service costs may be quite high as a result during the setup period. Asking around is the only real way you'll be able to purchase a copy.
