I spend quite a bit of time having to modify both things so that they reflect the most recent changes. ArcGIS Online is very and quickly scalable. All technical aspects are supported by Esri and that means your team can focus on data and other tasks. There is a lot of self service available in ArcGIS Online that can support a wide range of end users **What do you dislike about ArcGIS Online?** ArcGIS Online works primarily in WGS84 (It changes based on the projection system of the basemap). This has caused us a number of issues as the data we use is in either NZTM or MB2000. Another issues is that the hosting is in the US (West Coast). With our current infrastructure setup, it means all calls go CHCH - AKL - SYD - USA - SYD - AKL - CHCH. This adds a lot of latency and slows things down. **Recommendations to others considering ArcGIS Online:** If you are wanting to develop and highly customised tools and user experience then you need to use on premise infrastructure (ArcGIS for Server/Enterprise). However if you are wanting basic infrastructure with basic configuration, then AGOL is the right platform. **What problems is ArcGIS Online solving and how is that benefiting you?** The ability to very quickly roll out and scale up the number of users where necessary ### 7. The free tutorials that are provided are also extremely helpful, however, I highly recommend working with an "expert" on GIS. The options are limitless and this is truly an awesome software. **What do you dislike about ArcGIS Online?** I do not understand why, in 2018, companies and software are still being developed that are Windows-only compatible. I purchased my own license and ArcGIS annual subscription for my own personal use. I map overdoses within my county. I was very excited as I began setting up the software and learning how to use it. Unfortunately, the app is not built for mac computers. I read all of these different forums and ended up using boot camp assistant and made another option to re-boot my computer and have it run as a Windows product... I know, a lot of work right? The use of all the features within the app was the majority of the reason I paid for it. There are some features where I have to send files to other people who can convert it to the format I need through their ArcGIS app so that I can use it. I really wish I could get a one-on-one session with someone from ESRI to learn more about the software and utilize all of the resources that I currently do not know how to use. This software is invaluable and real-time mapping is becoming more of a priority throughout all types of work. **Recommendations to others considering ArcGIS Online:** You can only use the ArcGIS Online version (the "lite" version) on mac products. This software is built to be used with Windows software. **What problems is ArcGIS Online solving and how is that benefiting you?** All of the different layers and options for analyzing data allow for clear mapping that is easy for viewers to understand. In my mapping of overdoses I was able to use this software to create "hotspots", I added a layer that shows which overdoses occurred in each zip code, and I was also able to add demographic information through a layer made available by ESRI online. ### 10. I like having the ability to share or not share files with select groups or people. I really like the story map capabilities to display and share information. **What do you dislike about ArcGIS Online?** I don't really like the credit system for storage, it is a big pain keeping track of how much data credits one uses. I don't like that I can't share my files across my user id's. **Recommendations to others considering ArcGIS Online:** ESRI has made this available to all schools. Hopefully the local schools will adapt this into their course work. What an impact this will have for young kids and high school age children. What an advantage they would have to learn geospatial relationships in the world before they graduate from high school. **What problems is ArcGIS Online solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are able to show maps of the city and recently we did a study on bike and pedestrian accidents within the city. As an Emergancy Manager the job role is to coordinate communication. Being able to pull in information from all of your partner agencies and put it in a platform that show everything one one place in incredibly valuable. **What do you dislike about ArcGIS Online?** There needs to be three user levels. Read-only, Editor, and Full user. I have several user who need to be able to use collector for data entry and workforce for tracking, however they will never use all the advanced features of a full license. We currently have to use a combination of DRP and shared accounts in order to really accomplish what we need to. Ideally, the state would be able to get all 400+ emergency managers around the state to participate, however, the current pricing structure is never going to allow for that. Most of our smaller emergency management officers are not able to run, host, or maintain there only system. It's usually a one more shop until something happens. **Recommendations to others considering ArcGIS Online:** The online teams have been incredibly helpful when we encounter natural disasters. Often times we get overloaded when events happen and they are always able to help us out when we simply can't spend the time on development. Be sure you really think through your organization and user groups before you deploy. For example, I beleive pulling layer information is not possible when creating a feature in AGOL **Recommendations to others considering ArcGIS Online:** Its great becuase its accessable from the web. It makes distributiong ArcGIS information very easy to outside vendors. While I personally did limited administration in the tool, those on my tea who did it said it was very easy to deploy and keep up to date. I believe ArcGIS Online is one of the best tools for displaying cartographic information on the web. **What do you dislike about ArcGIS Online?** Although a program that in its free version is complete and you can practically do many things from the point of view of thematic map representation and location. I would like to have a free trial version for a limited time, with several of the functions that are available in the paid ArcGis online. **Recommendations to others considering ArcGIS Online:** Sure, I highly recommend this program on the Web for sharing information and also for those who want to create thematic maps and do not have experience with desktop ArcGIS. It is a simple program with a free version. **What problems is ArcGIS Online solving and how is that benefiting you?** Many of the problems that arise in my company are due to the desire to display cartographic and thematic information of a project, and several of our clients do not manage or use ArcGIS.
