"Works nicely but there's a "gotcha""

What do you like best about ArcGIS for AutoCAD?

Automated conversion of AutoCAD data to ArcGIS data that can be used as features and layers in a GIS. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about ArcGIS for AutoCAD?

Gotcha: "Leaky rectangles". If corners of manually created rectangles have the slightest of gaps, the converter does not interpret the object as a rectangle. Instead it sees it as vectors at right angles. Requires manually extending those vectors until they actually touch at the corners. Time consuming. But I realize this is human error on the AutoCAD side, just should somehow be intelligent enough to be "forgiving" for a couple pixels at least. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering ArcGIS for AutoCAD:

This is the best on the market for filling this conversion nitch. I hadn't mentioned it, but we also can import maps into AutoCAD which is also useful to help with digitizing from field data. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is ArcGIS for AutoCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?

Specifically, we were able to convert architectural drawings of interior of San Diego Convention Center into GIS data from which we created an interior 3D GIS so that attendees could be routed to their next meeting across 3 floors without stepping outside. What do you like best about ArcGIS for AutoCAD?

ArcGIS is the first mapping software to use for professional mapping. The package comes with ArcCatalog, which is great for organizing files. There are many ways to use the software, if you can learn how the functions work together. Everything is referenced on a coordinate system, which means everything you do is fundamentally related to the real world. The raster uses and analyzes are high-level as well. ArcGIS is extremely user-friendly and the possibility of doing so many tasks, from vectorizing a geographic chart to working statistics in thematic maps, excellent as a tool for planning a specific territory. What do you dislike about ArcGIS for AutoCAD?

The major issue that I've run into is the crashing program. I deal with big data on relatively new machines and despite their power, it can be pretty easy to overpower them. While it is easy to get the hang of what the software will or will not be able to handle, it would be nicer to have a program which draws less processing power. The image processing module does not seem to complete, I think it is necessary to develop it more. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering ArcGIS for AutoCAD:

I would recommend something else if you have no money and must have a free GIS software suite. Otherwise, there should not be any question. If you are going to learn GIS, learn the one that every employer is looking for in GIS analyst. ArcGIS is used by so many people so it is worth it for an individual or a company to purchase the product. The support team is always helpful as well. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is ArcGIS for AutoCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?

I always receive requests from supervisors, clients, fellow students and colleagues from different types of geographic information, which is refined, georeferenced, analyzed and in its cartographic output format. Therefore, to do all these operations it is necessary to use the ArcGIS to manipulate entities with their attributes in an efficient way linked to the requirements of third parties. I have used ArcGIS for the regionalization of the territory, the analysis of the regional urban system of different territorial areas, and the construction of topographic and thematic cartography for territorial diagnosis. Visualizing any data and traffic-related or not traffic related. It is easy to interpret numbers by using mapping, at least easy to present. Providing spatial analysis is an effective tool thanks to ArcGIS. It certainly uses spatial and numerical anlaysis easier in terms of visualization. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Easy to use gis maps in the form of image services and feature services stored by arcgis. you get maps imagen, and element sources in arcgis online. it has a large property of drawing file that allows to incorporate, edit and share in the arcgis system. Access to gis data within Autocad.

Add images to your Autocad drawings.

Edit Arcgis databases through Autocad.

Prepare Cad drawings files for GIS streamline the exchange between GIS and CAD information.

Organize existing CAD data as GIS data sets within your Autocad drawing to be used in ArcGIS desktop.

What problems is ArcGIS for AutoCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?

the use of software has helped me in the investigation of an analysis of property value behavior through the superposition of multicriteria, because it allowed me to provide a set of structured data to improve specific objetives.

What problems is ArcGIS for AutoCAD solving and how is that benefiting you?

We use ArcGIS to import site / civil surveys into our CAD models for new and existing renovation projects. The data from GIS maps is integrated with the survey and mapped accurately using points from the field.
