One can also block a domain. **What do you dislike about OpenText Core Email Threat Protection?** It doesn't catch emails that are obviously phishing attempts. Some of the subjects of emails AppRiver hasn't caught: Alert: Update Your Microsoft 365 Password Before Expiry[random character string] [Company Name] HR: Employee Guidelines Ref ID: [Random characters] [Company Name] sent 3rd Quater Performance-Based Review and Annual Raise Ref :[random character string] Payroll Adjustment Q2 Performance Review and Employment Compensation Ref [random characters] [Date] The filtering functionality is very limited, so even if there's an obvious pattern, one can't create any rule to prevent it. Responses are slow and unhelpful. It actually seems like it's been getting worse lately, though it's hard to tell. **What problems is OpenText Core Email Threat Protection solving and how is that benefiting you?** It's supposed to be solving spam and phishing emails. At this point, I'm not sure it is benefiting me. ### 2. Users are notified daily of any messages that have been blocked and given the option to view and release blocked messages that are legit. In addition, they can also request global whitelist entries or, if given permission, manage their own, personal whitelists. Our end-users find using this service easy to understand and use. When needed, the customer support is always easy to work with and quick to answer questions. **What do you dislike about OpenText Core Email Threat Protection?** By default, only the past 7 days of filtered messages are maintained. We were able to request 14-day retention but that is the maximum offered. It would be nice to have a longer retention options. **What problems is OpenText Core Email Threat Protection solving and how is that benefiting you?** AppRiver Email Threat Prevention greatly reduces the amount of spam delivered to our inboxes. It allows the end users to view held messages safely and release them to their inbox if needed. Users can also request whitelist entries or manage their own, personal whitelists if permitted to do so. From an administrator's perspective, you are given the ability to tweak the filtering system significantly to meet your needs. ### 3. I have not once had to lose sleep over spam. There are a few that get through their filters if you don't lock them down but 90% of SPAm is weeded out. The Customer Support is excelent and I typically get right through to an agent when help is needed. I really appreciate that. **What do you dislike about OpenText Core Email Threat Protection?** When first configuring the settings you can accidently catch too much and you have to spend a few days tweeking it to meet your needs. Once you do that, it is set it and forget it. **What problems is OpenText Core Email Threat Protection solving and how is that benefiting you?** The weakest link into a network is the end user email and AppRiver Email Threat Protection is a great shield. You can never catch everything but in the 7 years I've been here I have only had a few real threats slip past the filters and I was able to immediately adjust the filters to stop future threats. ### 4. Our users receive frequent reports on quarantined items so that they can request the admin to release any messages they need. This keeps us safe and makes sure we don't miss vital communication that may have been blocked. Better safe than sorry. **What do you dislike about OpenText Core Email Threat Protection?** The filters can miss dangerous emails from time to time and when these messages get through you cannot recall them from the mailboxes without paying for extra features from Appriver. I think this service should be included in the basic threat protection package because it is vital for security. **Recommendations to others considering OpenText Core Email Threat Protection:** Configure it so that your users get quarantined messages reports very often so that important messages that were quarantined don't get missed. **What problems is OpenText Core Email Threat Protection solving and how is that benefiting you?** Spam and malicious email is an enormous problem and Appriver helps us manage it. It saves time for the IT dept. by automatically filtering messages and removing them and alerts us when we need to intervene. The portal is easy to use and support has been great. ### 6. Navigation is fragmented, clumsy and without any flow. **Recommendations to others considering OpenText Core Email Threat Protection:** I recommend that anyone who needs email threat protection consider alternatives to AppRiver. No matter who good the protection might prove to be managing this service is difficult. **What problems is OpenText Core Email Threat Protection solving and how is that benefiting you?** AppRiver is our spam, malware and phishing protection.
