Applitools is a test automation platform that helps engineering teams release software with confidence by replacing the guesswork of probabilistic AI with deterministic, reproducible test results. As organizations ship AI-influenced code faster, they face a growing visibility problem: AI-generated code validated by opaque AI agents creates a cycle of unquantifiable risk. Applitools provides a deterministic, outside vantage point, comparing your evolving product against a trusted production baseline to deliver a verifiable Go/No-Go signal at every release. At the core of the platform is a Deterministic Language Model (DLM) combined with Visual AI. The DLM converts plain English test intent into repeatable, debuggable steps with no LLM involvement at runtime, eliminating AI drift and flaky CI results. Visual AI replaces brittle DOM assertions with single-line visual snapshots that simulate how a real user sees your application, filtering out rendering noise and surfacing actual regressions. Together, they eliminate the maintenance tax of legacy test automation, shifting engineering time away from fixing broken scripts and toward building better test coverage. Core capabilities: - Visual AI testing replaces brittle DOM assertions with single-line visual snapshots that simulate how a real user sees your application, filtering out rendering noise and surfacing actual regressions - Deterministic Language Model (DLM) converts plain English test intent into repeatable, debuggable steps with no LLM involvement at runtime, eliminating AI drift and flaky CI results - Cross-browser and cross-device test coverage runs across thousands of browser and device combinations without local grid infrastructure or maintenance overhead - Framework-native SDKs integrate directly into Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, Appium, and Storybook, so teams keep existing tooling and workflows - Automated baseline management groups related visual differences across browsers and resolutions for bulk one-click acceptance, reducing test maintenance as suites scale Applitools supports functional, visual, accessibility, API, component, and data-driven testing across web, mobile, desktop, PDFs, and documents, providing a consistent quality signal from design through production.

"Smart Visual Testing: UFG Scale Without the Infrastructure Overhead and with AI Features"

4.5/5

What do you like best about Applitools?

The standout capability for me is the Ultrafast Test Grid (UFG). It lets us scale visual tests smoothly across multiple desktop browsers, different viewport sizes, and mobile devices at the same time. As a result, we get broad responsive coverage right away without needing to build, host, or maintain a complex internal testing infrastructure.

Integrating the SDK into our existing automation framework was very straightforward and felt like a quick win for the team. On the execution side, being able to switch between Layout and Dynamic matching modes keeps our visual assertions highly stable and effectively removes the flaky false positives that are usually caused by dynamic data or shifting content. The Root Cause Analysis (RCA) feature is also exceptionally precise: when a mismatch happens, it points directly to the specific DOM changes or element displacement in the code, saving our developers hours of debugging time.

The Applitools support team is exceptionally responsive and proactive. Our weekly collaboration sessions have been invaluable, allowing us to quickly clarify technical queries and resolve roadblocks. This high-touch support has directly helped us build a highly robust, scalable testing framework for our responsive web applications in quick time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Applitools?

While the platform is highly efficient, there are a few notable gaps in the administrative and reporting tools. Right now, there’s no native option in the Applitools dashboard to set up automated alerts for usage thresholds when our team reaches a specific consumption tier, which makes proactive budget tracking difficult. In addition, the dashboard doesn’t provide a granular view of usage metric for example, a breakdown showing which specific pages are consuming our monthly license quota. Having a more detailed metrics dashboard would give us much better visibility and help us align the test suites we build with the actual resource consumption reflected on our monthly invoice. Finally, optimizing the initial test configuration for complex responsive layouts takes time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Applitools solving and how is that benefiting you?

We struggled to verify responsive layout consistency across an ever-growing matrix of browser versions and mobile viewports. Manual checks were too slow, and pixel-matching tools failed constantly because of minor rendering differences. Applitools Eyes addresses this by shifting the focus to AI-driven validation using DOM-based and different visual modes.

The centralized dashboard has also unified our workflow by enabling developers, QA testers, and Product Owners (POs) to collaborate in one place. We can review baseline changes and sign off on visual deployments together. This cross-functional visibility helps ensure design consistency across all form factors, while keeping our release cycles fast and predictable and allowing us to catch regression leaks early when visual changes slip in.

With UFG, we’re able to test many different combinations at once, very quickly, without needing to set up the infrastructure. As a result, we save time and effort. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Visual diffs catch UI regressions fast, with effortless baseline reviews"

5/5

What do you like best about Applitools?

Honestly, the visual diffs are the thing. They catch stuff my assertion tests never will — a button that shifted a few pixels, a broken font, two elements

overlapping — and one baseline covers a whole page, so I'm not babysitting a dozen brittle locators to catch the same problems. Day to day, the review flow is what I lean on: something changes, I see the before/after side by side, and I accept the new baseline in one click instead of digging through a trace trying to tell a real bug from an intended change. That's the other thing — when it fails, I'm looking at a picture, not a stack trace, so I usually know what broke in seconds. The Ultrafast Grid checking several browsers and viewports in one run saves me a pile of separate runs too. And it's flagged regressions our functional suite didn't even see. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Applitools?

The false positives, mostly. Anti-aliasing, a bit of dynamic content, a one-pixel render shift between runs — any of it flags a "diff" that isn't a real change, and now I'm in the dashboard rubber-stamping it. That's the part that wears on me: every legit UI tweak means going back and re-approving baselines, and on a big suite that's a chunk of time nobody accounts for. It's also a paid service you don't control, so a slow dashboard or a network blip can redden CI for reasons that have zero to do with the app. And it can't run fully hands-off — an assertion just passes or fails, but a diff needs a person to actually look and decide, which is awkward in an unattended pipeline. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Applitools solving and how is that benefiting you?

The core problem it solves: my functional tests are blind to how the page actually looks. Playwright will happily tell me a button exists and clicks — while the layout's collapsed, text is overlapping, or a CDN font never loaded. The page "passes" and still looks broken to a student. Applitools is the thing that catches that. For us that matters more than usual because it's an education product — students and teachers are in it every day, and a visually broken page is a bad day for a kid trying to do their work, not just a cosmetic nit. The business win is mostly speed and coverage: instead of someone manually clicking through pages across browsers before every release, one baseline run does it, so visual regressions get caught in CI instead of by a support ticket after we ship. "Automation Powerhouse with Stellar Visual Testing"

4.5/5

What do you like best about Applitools?

I like Applitools for its intuitive Baselining feature and the ability to define ignore and layout regions, which is something I use the most. The new AI-generated summary feature is really helpful whenever there are changes. The RCA feature is useful for comparing side-by-side DOMs. The best part is that it allows setting up different resolutions for various browsers. It's an integral part of our automation strategy, supporting pixel-perfect visual testing across different browsers and devices, saving us from manually testing on physical iPhones and Androids. I also find it easy to integrate with tools like Cypress, Playwright, and Storybook, making it our go-to tool along with the Applitools ultra-fast grid. The Figma plugin introduction could also be useful for our design system projects. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Applitools?

The baselining on cloud takes browser memory, so if I'm on a tab for a long time, things tend to become slow after a while and I need to close the session and open it in a new tab for it to work smoothly.

The Pricing is a bit on the higher side compared to competitors making it less feasible to be used across every project or client who doesn't want to spend a lot Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Applitools solving and how is that benefiting you?

I find Applitools integral for visual testing across browsers and devices, reducing laborious manual effort by automating pixel perfection testing and frequent regression checks.

We recently moved to a MACH architecture where a visual testing across design system was needed and on the website as well and it was fairly easy to integrate with both.

It saved us around 60% of the time it took to test manually Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Applitools: A Critical Safety Net for Visual Regression and Release Confidence"

4.5/5

What do you like best about Applitools?

Applitools has become one of our most critical tools for ensuring release safety. We run visual regression tests both in pre-production environments and directly after production deployments. It has repeatedly saved us from critical visual and functional regressions reaching production. It acts as our final safety net, ensuring live users never see broken layouts or broken components. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Applitools?

The main downside happens when a small change impacts many pages and we need to accept those baselines almost one by one. Also, maintenance wise, when there are many moving elements that we need to manually ignore. Those two points can take time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Applitools solving and how is that benefiting you?

As a QA Engineer myself, it helps me replace dozens of element-level assertions with a single visual checkpoint per page and it validates that the visuals render across multiple viewports and devices from a single run using the Ultrafast Grid. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Best in its field for dynamic websites that you'd want to test on Web, Mobile and Mobile Web"

4.5/5

What do you like best about Applitools?

It offers more strictness levels than other tools do. We've used nearly all strictness types in our suite. It also offers the ability to create custom dynamic rules, e.g. if the front-end inserts the randomly generated test data into a known, expected sentence. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Applitools?

It is the most expensive tool in its field Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Applitools solving and how is that benefiting you?

Whenever we want to refactor something that has the potential to affect anything on any page / user journey, such as a library update, Applitools gives us the confidence that unexpected changes will be caught. It also saves us having to conduct a large manual exploratory session to try and find problems this change would make Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"A Must-Have for Visual Testing"

4.5/5

What do you like best about Applitools?

The thing I like most about Applitools is it's really a cool tool to get into. It has an immediate wow factor for anyone who is coming to the tool for the first time. As a long-term user of Applitools, I appreciate the insight it gives us into how well a project has been going, especially since our work is project-based. We have a lot of projects that go through Applitools, and it has been eye-opening to see the sheer amount of work it has saved our manual testers. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Applitools?

Well, one thing that I've brought up to the team is our wanting to do more with the autonomous side of Applitools. And the thing that kinda keeps me hesitant is I need to be able to download tests in case I need to run something locally or provide to a client. So that's the only hang-up I have with the autonomous side of Applitools. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Applitools solving and how is that benefiting you?

I use Applitools to ensure we are putting the right elements into production across various environments, maintaining project integrity in multi-tenant deployments, and saving manual labor in visual comparison testing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Applitools Visual AI Catches Real Layout Regressions with Minimal Maintenance"

5/5

What do you like best about Applitools?

Applitools’ Visual AI engine was invaluable for us because it consistently caught real layout regressions across different browser configurations without drowning us in false positives. Since it evaluates the UI more like a human eye rather than relying on brittle pixel-matching, it significantly reduced our test maintenance overhead. As a result, we felt much more confident shipping frontend updates faster. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Applitools?

I honestly struggle to find any real flaws with the platform itself. If I had to point to a challenge, it was simply the initial mindset shift of learning to trust a visual AI instead of our legacy testing methods. Once I got past that short adjustment period, it worked exactly as promised. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Applitools solving and how is that benefiting you?

Applitools addresses the flakiness and high maintenance that come with traditional visual testing, especially when it relies on pixel-by-pixel comparisons and brittle DOM assertions. By intelligently automating UI checks across multiple browsers and screen sizes in one go, it removed hours of manual visual QA from our process. In the end, it helped us speed up our release cycles while still maintaining visual consistency at scale. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Effortless Visual Testing with Applitools"

5/5

What do you like best about Applitools?

I love Applitools for visual regression testing in our component library. It's great to know if an unrelated change visually affects a component we're working on. What I like most is the ease of use; their defaults are sensible enough that nothing needs changing. Also, it's great that it has tons of configurations to explore if I need something different. I hooked it up to our Storybook app, and I only had to configure a single file from their library, and my pipeline was running as expected. This saved me a lot of time which is very valuable. The initial setup was super easy, which I really appreciate. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Applitools?

A bit of a double-edged problem I believe, since the default works, I don't tend to explore as much on what else it could do to improve my workflow. I am sure there are things I could do differently, but the sheer amount of options tend to make me stay away from poking around. Focus on documentation is paramount; anything that is easily accessible and formatted to AI agents could easily get me to brainstorm issues that I have and plan improvements using the documentation as the base, rather than having me dive into docs myself or poke around. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Applitools solving and how is that benefiting you?

Applitools helps us with visual regression testing in our component library, making it easy to identify visual impacts from code changes. It saves me time with sensible defaults and straightforward setup, yet offers extensive configurations if needed. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Smart Visual Comparisons with Easy, Code-Based Region Control"

4.5/5

What do you like best about Applitools?

Smart visual comparison tool, and it’s easy to ignore or lay out specific regions directly from the code. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Applitools?

What problems is Applitools solving and how is that benefiting you?
