It's one of the smart tool to build applications quickly and helps address business problems fast. It's also easy to check and deploy to higher environments using Compare and Deploy feature withing the tool. If we are missing anything the deployment package, the tool will let us know immediately. It's easy to revert changes using versions. It's easy to build UI"s with lot of features and drag and drop options. The processes will run fast and we can create many instances at once. Processes have lot of plugin options to help developers to do lot of stuff. If we need some feature which is not available OOTB then we can develop our own plug-in and deploy to server and use them in real-time. It's easy to monitor processes as well and manager security. Easy to build reports for business needs. It's easy to learn for any new developer with little or no programming language. **What do you dislike about Appian?** Long running processes are not recommended. Adds unwanted code lines when drag and drop is used. Hard to debug with the generic errors Appian throws. Deploying plug-in in cloud is difficult and time taking. **What problems is Appian solving and how is that benefiting you?** We recently developed an app in Appian for health care customers to see the member info and all the cases and record the interaction activities and get the reports emailed to business people. Loading file and sending files/emails are all automated. In Java, they were expecting it to be completed in 6 months. I built it in 2 weeks using Appian and it's been used by customers from past 2 months without any defects. The modelling flow chart to model process flow diagrammatically instead having to write line after line after line of code. I like how you can pretty much create any process type application for so many industries. I can see it being used in totally different industries from healthcare to education to inventory type systems. **What do you dislike about Appian?** The one downside is that I have to learn a little bit of coding. The SAIL language is not too bad to learn, but it's a little confusing for non programmers. I don't like some of the restrictions put on the software, like only being able to have 5 menus on a webpage. But with a little creativity, I'm sure people will find workarounds. **Recommendations to others considering Appian:** For non-coders, business people, they can help developers model the business processes in the same project or app. This does lift the burden a little bit off the developers. It is also suitable for performing the agile methodology with dev-ops, which seems to be the industry standard in rolling out software applications. It also has a robotics and automation component to it but we didn't demo it. Considering the competitors out there like pega, appian is very similar and the ease of use is quite good. **What problems is Appian solving and how is that benefiting you?** I wasn't solving a problem with Appian. I was sent to a week long developer fundamentals class taught by Gabriel Salas. In that class we solved a problem for a car rental system. this system included maintenance scheduling, email notification, task assignment, process flow modelling, decision tree making. There was also another app that we used as a demo for a class training resource site and a doctors office, that is populated with doctors, nurses, prescription medication and patients. To name a few...Marketing, Compliance, Client Ops, Trade Ops and Creative Services. We have learned that we can manage the flow of work across departments, to allow them to focus on their core responsibilities, instead of getting caught up in process. Also - although I had learned from the early days - how to create forms using just SAIL, the drag and drop components that have evolved over the years really do make it easy for new developers. **What do you dislike about Appian?** Although the quarterly updates usually have some great enhancements, it's cumbersome to have to do regression testing every quarter - would probably prefer updates twice a year which would be more manageable for a cloud customer. There is automated task managemnt, and the platform overall offers an actual no-code experience. You can also separate it out and provision separate access for regular business users and more technical IT staff with individual processes that integrate together. This enables teams with distinct talent pools to work together on the same platform. **What do you dislike about Appian?** Fairly expensive and not all the workflows are obviously intuitive. Thats not to take away from the the value though - you often get what you pay for and also they offer a free trial so no commit to buy. **What problems is Appian solving and how is that benefiting you?** The problem is that not all of the folks on the application side have deep technical experience. Having a code free experience lends value, but you will need folks with the requisite knowqledge to be able to build the objects and enables integrations, etc. etc. ### 16. The interface is slick and powerful. Both the Appian product and the implementation team have been an excellent fit for our organization. The product is robust enough to handle mission-critical membership tracking for our 500,000 members, while flexible enough to also provide internal leave tracking for several hundred employees. Appian issues quarterly product updates that we can schedule with their Cloud team at our convenience. The Cloud team team makes the upgrade process completely painless. **What do you dislike about Appian?** The Tempo interface and social features are a waste for our organization. Thankfully the big focus in recent releases has been on the much more user-friendly Sites interface. Excel and Word templates are not easy to use and need more official support. **Recommendations to others considering Appian:** Partner with either Appian or a 3rd party on your initial project to learn the ropes, even if you plan on going in house later. Leverage the cloud offering if possible. Start with some quick-hit applications that show value before moving on to a large scale project. **What problems is Appian solving and how is that benefiting you?** We utilize Appian in all parts of our organization. Our primary use case is for our mission-critical membership tracking system that also includes a major batch file processing component. We have leveraged their RPA capabilities to handle routine tasks and free up employee time for more valuable tasks. We have also used Intelligent Document Processing to organize a legacy document dumping ground into a powerful and searchable tool. We even built our internal employee portal and leave tracking solutions in Appian. ### 17. Also this is something that might be simple but documentation is great compared to another systems. Interfaces look great and everytime this is being improved. Not a lot of systems do that! **What do you dislike about Appian?** Here in my team, we have something called "Appian horror tales" which is when sometimes something breaks with no explanation, somethings that gets errors when you run them again, they work and that is kind of confusing. Also as much as Appian is being great improving over time, there are some functions that still are not there but they must like a live view for local variables as that's one of our main pains when modifying code made by another person. One thing that could be better is the pricing because even though Appian is great, is expensive for a lot o countries and companies, making it difficult for Sales people.
