My favorite features of OpenOffice Writer are:

- a clear indication of the margins of the sheet, which allows you to immediately evaluate whether it is suitable for the file or not;

- all the most frequently used commands are in the ribbon bar, you avoid having to search for them in the curtains

One of my least favorite things about OpenOffice Writer is the small size of the icons in the ribbon bar. Although it is really convenient to have the most frequently used ones just a click away, sometimes the small icon is not very intuitive and not very visible.

Maybe, a setback can be that sometimes, the conversion from word to openoffice files can screw the text formatting.

Even the fact that modifying a MS office and saving it, always asks if you want to convert it to openoffice file format. That's a minor but annoying setback. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

As a free product, it works incredibly well as a substitute for Microsoft products. As it currently stands, the product has most - if not all - features of other paid products available. Generally, it seems a bit less polished than the higher cost alternatives. This is not an issue when creating a document, but can be a time issue for those that may be stuck searching for a feature. The OpenOffice package offers among the various programs a very easy to use text editor, because it has the same commands as all the other editors that it is customary to use. I like that you can save the text file in the most common formats, but above all that you have the ability to export a pdf without necessarily having to install a virtual PDF printer. I have been using OpenOffice Writer since I no longer have any program installed by default for editing on my laptop. I opted for an open-source system because it is sufficient to meet my needs. For formatting, adding simple graphics at the top of the page, and highlighting a clear hierarchy of titles, this program is suitable. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I don't really like the graphics of the program; before, I had MS Word and the top part of the commands was much clearer and more intuitive. Here, it takes me a bit of time to find the command, but I can still manage to find it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The thing I like most about this software package is that it is free. In fact, as a new person arrives in the office who has not yet been assigned a license for the Office package, it is said that Apache Open Office writer is installed to write documents.

this software package has nothing to envy to other subscription or paid suites, it allows you to write documentary or other files either from blank sheets or from preset layouts.

here too we have the very useful is indispensable self-rescue function during writing which works perfectly.

another positive aspect of this application is its speed of execution. In fact, at startup it starts very very quickly.

I can say that I don't like the graphical aspect of the application remembers a lot of old version of Windows like those of Windows 2002 Windows XP even if at the level it works is very powerful Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

It is very convenient to be able to format the text as you want: in fact you have the possibility to insert all the columns of text you need (a feature not present, for example, in Google Docs). A disadvantage is that it is not synchronized with any online account, so it is only good in cases where a text file is processed that should not be edited by other people, otherwise you need to send the file and then manually check what changes were made . No cost solution for carrying out all the work related to documentation, reports, templates etc. which were earlier done using the very famous Microsoft Word. Very light-weight and doesn't require high configuration desktop computers to run. Can be installed on any machine & has no limitations in any form. Fulfills most of the requirement of office work, employees and customers. Small size, easy to download, install, set-up and run easily. Runs on all platforms in same manner. It doesn't provides a lot of the feature which Microsoft Word provided earlier. Keyboards shortcuts were better managed and used in MS Word. The spelling-check & grammar is not up to the mark. There is no professional troubleshooting and support available. There is no way of collaborating nor any cloud based option both of which were readily available in MS Word.
