"Best Open Source Substitute I use day to day to substitute for Microsoft Office Suite"
4/5
What do you like best about Apache OpenOffice Writer?

That the programs are free, open-source, and has a lot of help on forums and in the help tab when dealing with an issue or when trying to figure out features that you may not use as often. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Apache OpenOffice Writer?

The ease of use seems to be a bit more difficult, the visual layout of the program is definitely not as pleasing on the eyes, very simple but is to be expected with a free open source program. Could have better formatting translation when converting documents from Microsoft Office and Open Office. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Pretty Stable and Comparable Alternative to Microsoft Word"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Apache OpenOffice Writer?

What I like best about this software is that it is free to download for anyone who wants to use it, whether it be for school, business, or anything else. I also like the fact that is has features that are very, very comparable to what you would find in Microsoft Word. As such, you are able to design and compose your document in a matter that is very similar to what you would be getting from what would be considered a more "premium" word processing software. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Apache OpenOffice Writer?

Although there is more that I like than dislike about this software, I would have to mention that some, not all, of the commonly used features of this software are "hidden" within the toolbar at the top of the screen. In other words, sometimes it may be a bit challenging to find the feature you need to use, such as creating a subscript/superscript, footnote, and the like. Other than that, there is not much I have left to point out as it relates to what I dislike about this software. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
