What I like most about Apache Log4j is how flexible and configurable it is. It gives me fine-grained control over logging levels, output formats, and destinations without needing to change the application code. I also appreciate that I can adjust logging configurations dynamically and integrate with different appenders, which makes it a powerful tool for debugging, monitoring, and maintaining production systems efficiently. One drawback of Apache Log4j is that its flexibility can also make it complicated to configure and maintain, particularly in large-scale or legacy systems. If it’s misconfigured, it can result in performance problems or unnecessarily verbose logging. In addition, past security vulnerabilities (such as Log4Shell) have underscored how important it is to keep dependencies up to date and to manage logging configurations carefully in production environments. It's hard to pick one attribute which is better than others, but I far as I have experienced, it provides control over a class to limit what we want, from setting up the timestamp to print the stack trace of error occurred it hold you back and give far better experience than regular console log, moreover its safe and secure and can be used in production code and helps us debug any issue or check the performance of our application in a safe and descriptive way. Also it's gives us so many custom options to create the root file either using xml tags or a .properties file and cutomize the logs like timestamp design, method name, classname, line number and also file size limit wchi helps in tracing latest report and more over. What do you dislike about Apache log4j? its nothing to dislike about log4j as it makes life easier for developer and apps to control your apps and store its behavior without fear of losing data. Its only disadvantage whcich i feel is the incorrect usage which can lead to failure in any method of improper logging will be difficult to trace and debug the issue in the application Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. Recommendations to others considering Apache log4j: I would be more than happy to recommend log4j as it the answers to many questions which users and developers face when they need to track the application, whether it's the beginning or for a more extensive application in its later phase. log4j will keep your back and support in a very custom way to track the application health and immediate support for issues and errors. Moreover, it's easy to integrate and very basic boilerplate to start with and gives a lot back in return Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What problems is Apache log4j solving and how is that benefiting you? I been using this as my default logger module to log any activity like controller mapping, entry and exit from a method or any service layer, debugging class name along with line numbers helps a lot to trace back the behavior of method and find location which initiated the error or exception. The security of logging comments and temporary activity related to a method without fear of losing important data is really helpful and helps only developers or relevant persons to access the file. It shortens the number of lines of code. Cuts down the boilerplate code. Syntax I used in my Java applications, was far easy to remember. I think the team who created it has done a wonderful job.
