Great software by apache for the Testers on the field. Best to use for the load testing of the Web applications as well as FTP applications. Very easy to begin with and user-friendly to install and use. It is also used for Functional and Database testing but is not so popular. Best User Interface and performance once installed. If you don't have any knowledge of Java then it's difficult to start learning and then use this software. If automation is to be tested then also you cannot o with Jmeter.
