What I like most is the automated evidence collection. It saves our team a lot of manual effort and eliminates a lot of “screenshot chasing” during audits. What do you dislike about Anecdotes? The initial setup and mapping for certain integrations can be time-consuming and a bit complex. While the platform itself is powerful, the learning curve for new users feels fairly steep. Rather than having to collect audit evidence by hand, the platform automates data gathering across our tech stack. For us, this has significantly reduced the operational burden on the team, helped ensure we stay “audit-ready” throughout the year instead of only during peak periods, and improved visibility into our overall security posture. The best thing about Anecdotes is: - The number of frameworks and features you can get out-of-the-box with their pricing structure. - A very clean and navigable UI. - Integrations with tons of popular SaaS apps that a majority of organizations use. - Great Policy templates for users to build on if they're not familiar with writing Information Security Policies. - The support to upload your own common control framework for a more savvy compliance program. - Pre-built dashboards and metrics to show the effectiveness of your compliance program to Executive leadership. Anecdotes does not have security awareness training built into its platform, but rather, it provides customers with access to a partner security awareness training platform. The partner security awareness training platform that customers get access to is very limited – no SSO integration for user enrollment/deactivation and only three training scenes/topics for a given new hire or annual security awareness training. We were able to import all of our custom controls to the platform and we have the flexibility to modify them as needed, which is key. I also like that they had integrations with all of the major tools we use, and they even created new ones based on our requests. The Customer Success team has also been very helpful. Anecdotes provide a structured approach to designing your control framework, quickly evaluating gaps and connecting to your infrastructure and security tools to collect evidence. What do you dislike about Anecdotes? Although Anecdotes connect to multiple source systems, bringing in evidence, it lacks some connectors and does not always collect the proper evidence. The intuitive and ease of use was something the team has put a lot of thought and effort into, it was immediately apparent. The interface is clean, and easy to use with minimal nonsense distractions. The plug-in system to connect our cloud-based tech-stack was as straightforward as one can ask for, with detailed and to-the-point instructions where little room for error was left. And if problems occurred, customer support was prompt to help. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Anecdotes? Where the product shines, is sometimes the same spot where it shines not as brightly. Some of the contextual interface options are hidden too well, with the document management system being the main offender. Having a separate document management screen is great, but in other evidence and compliance screen is was not obvious you could manage the evidence from the existing pool of documents you have already uploaded. However, this slight shortcoming was quickly addressed by a customer success representative who quickly pointed out and explained. Another minor shortcoming was the lack of cohesive error messages when a plug-in fails, the terminal-like debug window outputted the raw error message from the service API, with little context or meaningful information, the support team was quick to recognise the issue and solve it however. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. Recommendations to others considering Anecdotes: It is crucial to make sure that you still have the necessary resources to use Anecdotes. It is NOT a "plug-and-you-are-compliant" instrument. Large amounts of internal involvement is still very much required, without dedicated attention Anecdotes can and will become just another yearly subscription in your organisation's expense budget. I had to deal with an incredible amount of documentation, spreadsheets, and evidence inventory lists before I met with Anecdotes. The ability to automatically gather evidence using read-only accounts from our cloud infrastructure was a pivotal time-saver to us. not to mention that the automatic cataloguing of the evidence to keep historic records and cross-examine to meet the requirements of other compliancy frameworks was just as monumental for our future compliance efforts. I love the plugins allowing automatic data fetch from various sources, and the ability to hook them up directly to the controls. Some missing plugins, (i.e. Notion), but there are workarounds for those.
