**What do you like best about Android Studio?**

Its been a journey of more than 8 years developing android applications. Worked on Eclipse in the start of my career but on shifting to Android Studio from around 4 years, I've found it more efficient and reliable than Eclipse. Following are the features of Android Studio that has obsoleted Eclipse:
1. Being associated with google, it provides full compatibility for Android.
2. IDE itself coverts eclipse project into android studio compatible.
3. It is user friendly to use.
4. At startup, it shows Tips window to provide detailed information regarding usage of Android studio like various shortcuts etc.
5. There are plethora of tools available to checking code and now even UI.

**What do you dislike about Android Studio?**

Apart from number of advantages, there are some drawbacks as well. In the process of development, project size has comparatively increased. There are number of files being added. There are many dependency errors while compiling the project.

**Recommendations to others considering Android Studio:**

It is highly recommended to use Android Studio for Android development as it is official and efficient.

**What problems is Android Studio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

  ### 8. A good development environment for the most used mobile operating system.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Renewables & Environment | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 07, 2019

**What do you like best about Android Studio?**

We are facing the best development environment for Android without a doubt, tailor-made for it. Version control, frequent updates, a large community behind it, and endless advantages. It is free and does not take up much disk space. Possibility of having virtual machines of different devices to test the developments.

**What do you dislike about Android Studio?**

It needs to improve some functions that are not entirely convincing. For novice users, it may impress at first glance, as it has a multitude of options that you will have to learn and that are not very intuitive at first, which makes it complex initially. The development kits take up too much space.

**Recommendations to others considering Android Studio:**

Recommendable. Indispensable if you work with Android development, you won't find a better environment. You have alternatives like Eclipse, but Android Studio makes everything much easier for you.

**What problems is Android Studio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

If you program for Android, you will find a great advantage, save time, and have everything at hand. It allows you to optimize your time and teamwork, which ultimately translates into better developments.

  ### 9. Adequate IDE for developing Android applications using Java

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Paul B. | Software Engineer, Computer Software, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 19, 2019

**What do you like best about Android Studio?**

The integration of Subversion and other tools is very useful and easy to use once I get passed the complication of learning to use it. Being able to have version control in the IDE saves me valuable time.

**What do you dislike about Android Studio?**

The entire layout is confusing at first and not as well organized or intuitive as a more refined IDE like Xcode or visual studio. The gradle build system is an absolute mess and the number one issue with using Android studio to develop. Another issue is poor management of versioning the product and making projects work on multiple different minor versions within the same major version of Android Studio. I have had as many as 3 versions of this product on my machine at once due to not being able to open projects from older versions after minor updates.

**Recommendations to others considering Android Studio:**

Research the gradle build system because it is the single worst thing about this product and extremely confusing. If you do not learn the basics of how it works before trying to use Android studio then you will have a very hard time.

**What problems is Android Studio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

At my company we have used visual studio to allow multiple developers to work on an android application in parallel and/or in series. It has been a good native environment for developing Android applications and testing using the emulator. Using Android studio for QA we were able to reduce the number of testing devices needed significantly.

  ### 10. Indispensable if you program for Android

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Renewables & Environment | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**What do you like best about Android Studio?**

Perfectly prepared development environment oriented towards Android application programming. It has virtual machines for all versions and with different devices and screen sizes, perfect for when you have to keep testing how everything fits. It allows plugins, version control, etc. Perfect for any level and project.

**What do you dislike about Android Studio?**

It needs improvement. Until recently, I used Eclipse because Android Studio was not well finished, having many bugs or issues that made development annoying. Currently, it is much better, although still in the process of improvement.

**Recommendations to others considering Android Studio:**

If you program for Android, you must use it, it is the best option you will find. Perfect for large and small projects and also for teamwork. Recommended.

**What problems is Android Studio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The development of the applications we make has improved a lot. It makes our work easier by being perfectly adapted to what it is, an environment for developing on Android. Version control and the ability to program as a team help a lot.

The IDE fullfills its purpose very well, the visual designer works just fine (even when I don't really like to work with visual designers, I prefer the plain old xml)
The code autoformat, intellisense and visual aids when tipying code is the best. The emulator have been improved greatly from the first time I've used it, back in 2013

The compile times are still longer, you cannot se the UI changes in your app unless you make a build first. In other platforms you are allowed to se how your changes impact in the UIin real time.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jesús Fernando M. | Desarrollador de front-end, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 08, 2019

**What do you like best about Android Studio?**

Massive user base
Increasing adoption, especially in developing countries
Ease of making the app publicly available. Android's review process for apps is fairly simple and it takes lesser time than iOS, for an app to get approved for publishing on the play store.

**What do you dislike about Android Studio?**

Multitude of devices to take care of, and not just different screen sizes, but different resolutions too. This makes the app design, as well as UI development much harder.
Quality of apps on the Play Store is much worse than those on the App Store. This is primarily because of Apple's stringent review policies. They do not allow low quality apps to be published.
Monetization-wise iOS apps still rule the charts. Though Android is catching up, it is still going to be a while before it begins to match up.

I resolved some company projects and problems. For the uni, I had made some Android Projects using Android studio.

**What do you like best about Android Studio?**

It has a code editor that offers an autocomplete while we write the code and makes coherent suggestions according to what we are programming. It use ProGuard to optimize and protect the code and integrate with Gradle to automate and make work more fluid.

For any android app you do need to use android studio to deploy to google store. The phone simulator does have all the devices you need to test your app.

**What do you dislike about Android Studio?**

The documentation could be a lot better for react native support. I didn’t feel like it was very intuitive. Also the phone simulator is extremely slow.

I am creating a mobile application and using android studio for publishing to google play store. It’s a must have for any android app.

  ### 36. Really amazing IDE

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Joel D. | Cofounder, Computer Software, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 07, 2016

**What do you like best about Android Studio?**

I love how they are constantly releasing updates. There are several channels that allows you to get bug fixes quickly if you want but you can stay in the stable channel if you please so that's one of my favouirite features. I love extensible it is, how Developers can easily make plugins for features they would want but the core team isn't able to tend to those requests as yet. For eg. I use a popular open source library called Butterknife that provides view injection and I was able to easily download an extension by a developer that basically allows me to use this library in a single click.

**What do you dislike about Android Studio?**

The main thing I dislike is that it's a bit resource intensive. I am having slow builds right now because I only hae 6gb of RAM and a 7200rpm hard drive so I will have to get better hardware for faster builds. Yes gradle has improved but Android Studio is still a memory hog. I use Visual Studio for very large projects and it takes up bearly half of the RAM Android Studio uses.

**What problems is Android Studio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm mainly solving the problem of having a reliable IDE for Android development. The main benefits I have realized are it's actively supported by Google and the community. Thus it's been tailored to suit the needs of developers worldwide who are contributing to the ecosystem.

  ### 37. I use Android Studio for writing code for my android apps.

1. Its super fast, lot of helpful tips and makes it easy for development.
2. Support for lot of libraries
3. Easily spin up virtual devices for testing

**What do you dislike about Android Studio?**

Feels like lot of things are going on in the UI of the IDE, this could be improved to make it look simple.

**What problems is Android Studio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

1. Android UI automation using Espresso framework and android virtual device.

  ### 38. Very good IDE for android development

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sanket S. | Senior Software Engineer, Information Technology and Services, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 22, 2018

**What do you like best about Android Studio?**

This IDE is best suited for development of android application. It's build system is very fast compared to other IDEs for android development. Lots of plugin are also available which helps in developing the application faster. It also provides the Kotlin support and also can convert existing Java application into Kotlin. It has also provided version control support like Git so that you don't have to explicitly download the plugin.

**What do you dislike about Android Studio?**

It takes a lot of time in starting the IDE mostly in windows system. It takes a lot of time just to show design view of the xml file and sometimes it gets hanged too. Inbuilt code analyzer tool can be better.

**Recommendations to others considering Android Studio:**

It is best IDE for android development

**What problems is Android Studio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am currently using Android Studio for the development of the Android application. It helps me in developing the application faster. I would highly recommend this IDE for development of Android application compared to other IDEs.

**Reviewed by:** Brandon R. | Software Developer, Computer Software, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 12, 2019

**What do you like best about Android Studio?**

It's been around for a while now, so the community support is really good. It's also IntelliJ based, so anybody familiar with that will feel at home.

**What do you dislike about Android Studio?**

It tends to get sluggish on Windows machines. Also, the emulators for testing have quite poor performance for real world usage testing.

**Recommendations to others considering Android Studio:**

If you're used to IntelliJ, it's a no-brainer to switch to Android Studio.

**What problems is Android Studio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Development of several android apps for clients is done with Android studio. It's a more native solution compared to Eclipse, so we made the switch quite a while back.

  ### 43. One Stop Tool for Android App Development!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sugata R. | Mr., Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 22, 2018

**What do you like best about Android Studio?**

>Android Studio uses the quick growing Gradle build system that is so integrated, and Gradle is really a great tool.

>User Interface: Very nice User Interface with projects pane on left and Code debug on buttom and a clear big interface to write code. Includes all necessary tools at right places.

>Best in Class Code Completion: We have to agree, Android Studio has advanced code completion which is better than it's counterparts like Eclipse and makes linking files of your app a breeze. Helps alot to those wtih Less knowledge of JAVA.

>Built in Drag & Drop Visual Editor: A much needed feature for the beginners, and advanced users alike cause it makes layout design a lot easier!

**What do you dislike about Android Studio?**

>The Biggest factor that I cosider negative for this product is that it consumes much RAM and uses lot of resources. Starting of this app can be slow on Intel i3 and lower or equivalent AMD processors. BUT, with subsequent updates, much bugs have been fixed, and load times have improved.

>The layout manager should have more options like keeping Border Radius inbuilt instead of making a seperate XML file for having that.

>Often times we don't understand how our app crashes, even after a successfull Run. Error recognition mechanisms should be provided such that recognition of the errors is possible even to the Beginners.

**Recommendations to others considering Android Studio:**

If you are into making Android Apps using Java, don't look further, this is the best solution you can have!!!

**What problems is Android Studio solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The main purpose Android Studio is built for is making Android Applications. And, it is the best in the industry in doing so. It even includes a built in Device Emulator for those who don't have a physical Android device and they can run apps they make using AS on the emulators.

>It now officially supports Kotlin Language which has better syntax and structure than Java.

**Reviewed Date:** July 30, 2018

**What do you like best about Android Studio?**

Android Studio is a very good IDE developed by IntelliJ Ideal IDEA to create Android applications in an easy and comfortable way, I really like to use Android Studio because when you start to develop an application, andoid offers suggestions and help to create it in the best possible way .

At the time of the beginning, it helps us to decide which API to choose to develop the application, gives code suggestions, its interface is very intuitive and comfortable, it has an error console, the creation of the designs is very simple. and something that I really like is that you can try (compile) the applications from any phone with Android.

Simply connecting the phone to the USB and running the application can be fully tested. or also downloading a virtual machine from your IDE if you wish.

Something really good about Android Studio is that it has many templates to choose from to start designing the design, it is not necessary to develop a design from scratch.

Android Studio also integrates tools such as Git and is an Ide that is always updated in terms of SDK versions, APIs and devices.

**What do you dislike about Android Studio?**

Android Studio is a very heavy IDE, it takes time to start and execute tasks, sometimes the screen freezes, I recommend that you use it with a powerful computer with enough RAM.
When downloading a repository, it usually takes a long time.
