## Amicus Attorney by CARET Reviews
  ### 1. Could be more user friendly

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 28, 2018

**What do you like best about Amicus Attorney by CARET?**

I like the ability to keep file contacts contained to a specific file.

**What do you dislike about Amicus Attorney by CARET?**

I dislike that there is always a problem. The calendar doesn't sync to outlook properly. You can't save an email to multiple persons, etc. It constantly loses its sync with our accounting software.

**What problems is Amicus Attorney by CARET solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I don't think we are "solving" any problems, but again, I like that you can make notes, keep call logs, save emails, etc. all to the file they pertain too.

  ### 2. Great program

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Legal Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 18, 2018

**What do you like best about Amicus Attorney by CARET?**

Amicus Attorney Premium is a reliable product. Once it's up and running correctly, there are few bugs, which can get frustrating. It is a highly flexible program chock full of more options than anyone could ever use.

**What do you dislike about Amicus Attorney by CARET?**

The price has gone up as well as the bugs seem to increase.

**What problems is Amicus Attorney by CARET solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It takes a long time to train staff.

  ### 3. Functionally Funky

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 20, 2017

**What do you like best about Amicus Attorney by CARET?**

Amicus Attorney is our main point of reference for any and all legal transactions, conversations, meetings, schedulings, etc... in the firm. It is very convenient to have all of this data stored in one location that all lawyers and staff can view, edit and reference at any given point in time. This is extremely useful because it allows multiple users to enter time and data on files from multiple locations, taking the burden of the work off just one person. Additionally, this is our main interface for billing clients, and the time-keeping functions and bill generating capabilities of this software are extremely important to our firm's core financial functions.

**What do you dislike about Amicus Attorney by CARET?**

The desktop version of Amicus Attorney feels antiquated compared to its cloud-based counterpart. The appearance and layout of it often feel like a 90's retro software application, and I'm sometimes baffled at how hidden some of the most important and glitch-causing features are. Additionally, when transitioning between the two interfaces, our firm found that there were several glitches to work out regarding old data transitioning and being lost, incorrectly transferred or simply wrong. We are still working things out with this, as we aren't aware of some lingering issues until they are discovered. Additionally, there are several features of the billing side of this software that I have had issues with. The most important issue I repeatedly am frustrated with is the lack of customization in billing templates, leading to a new system of having to generate bills each month, print & post, download as Word documents, edit the templates to a custom format, save as a PDF and then distribute to clients. I wish there was a way to implement a custom template within Amicus itself!

**What problems is Amicus Attorney by CARET solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Full team functionality is a must in our firm, with several attorneys often working on the same case or matter at once. The main benefit, I would say, is the cross-team functionality of this software (overall, however-there are still cases of glitches being discovered that need to be worked out on a case-by-case discovery basis).

  ### 4. Good Client Management System

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Helen V. | Legal Assistant, Law Practice, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 24, 2017

**What do you like best about Amicus Attorney by CARET?**

I like that Amicus Attorney allows you to enter everything about the client from the initial phone call details to information about the case in the File Notes section. A virtual file card flips to each person on the case and all their contact information as you click on their name. It's easy to add contact people and delete the ones you don't want.

**What do you dislike about Amicus Attorney by CARET?**

Once you save a time entry, there is no going back and editing it (for me anyway). I probably don't have access to this feature, but it really would save time if I could edit my time entries.

**What problems is Amicus Attorney by CARET solving and how is that benefiting you?**

All our client information and the time spent on a case is all in once place.

  ### 5. Very user friendly means of tracking calls and activities along with creating documents

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 08, 2017

**What do you like best about Amicus Attorney by CARET?**

Amicus allows you to create forms for legal documents and letters that you can use to ensure consistency in your documents that you send out. I also liked being able to see phone calls related to a client or matter just by clicking on the client or matter. You could track if someone's call was returned or still needed to happen.

**What do you dislike about Amicus Attorney by CARET?**

Creating some forms are difficult but once you create a form, you can use that form to create new forms based off of the form.

**Recommendations to others considering Amicus Attorney by CARET:**

Be patient when you start. It gets easier the longer you use it.

**What problems is Amicus Attorney by CARET solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Forms make a new user/hiree able to pick up where someone else has started and continue working without interruption. A new hire is quickly able to step in and start sending out pleadings or letters that follow in the same look of other documents sent out by the firm.

  ### 6. Stop At the Sales Pitch!

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 30, 2017

**What do you like best about Amicus Attorney by CARET?**

The time tracking feature is beneficial and storing client contact information is good

**What do you dislike about Amicus Attorney by CARET?**

The Portal is inconsistent at best and there is very little support offered unless you want to choose the ultra-high end option.

**Recommendations to others considering Amicus Attorney by CARET:**

Before you choose Amicus Premium Edition, consider the other options available. We purchased the software for about $7500 and were promised lots of benefits, including the use of a client portal and a document assembly feature.
It became obvious shortly after signing on that my existing staff didn't have the time to implement any of the Amicus features we wanted to use so I hired another assistant to work on the document assembly precedents and manage the client portal. This was the first unanticipated cost in adopting the software.
Setting up the portal seemed easy at first and we had some success in having clients commit to using the portal. Then we started getting complaints from clients saying that they could not sign in, could not develop their own passwords and other issues. Our assistant spent a huge amount of her day either dealing with Amicus support on this issue or creating the logins for each client, which included the setup of the client password. Amicus support was poor. In one case we were referred to the one representative that could assist with our portal problems - he only took 3 weeks to get back to us and that would not have happened had I not stepped in as he continually ignored our assistant. In another case, the representative said that Amicus that our clients' inability to sign in was because they were using the wrong browser and Amicus could not be responsible for that (being every mainstream browser). In another case, the technical support representative logged in with our assistant to walk through the issues and then said "we have never seen this before. It's the first time this has happened". (when dealing with software, that is the last comment you want to hear). Lastly, there was the time where the support representative said it had to do with clients having a 2 letter email extension (i.e. .ca instead of .com). We have finally had enough and have elected to discontinue the use of the portal.
After having used Amicus for almost a year, we had the misfortune of having our computer system compromised and we had no ability to reinstall Amicus without the assistance of the support team. We were told at that time that (a) we would be charged $1800 US to provide the reinstall service; OR (b) we could convert from the Annual Fee of $1700 Cdn to a monthly support program of $250 US and that 'if we ever had any issues like that happen again, Amicus support would correct the issue without further cost'. We took them at their word and adopted the monthly fee, effectively increasing our costs by $1500 per year. That lasted 3 months and we were hacked a second (and third) time (which we took significant steps to correct). The only problem here was that Amicus didn't live up to their word and again advised that if we wanted to have Amicus re-installed, we would have to pay them $1700 US. We discussed this with the lead sales guy repeatedly to say that that was not what he promised a few months earlier. He knew what he had promised but came back to us with a 'proposal' that he couldn't talk about initially but eventually provided. That proposal was that Amicus could take over our entire computer system and put it in their cloud services and that opportunity would only cost $14,000 US per year (but that wouldn't eliminate our needs for a local IT guy as they couldn't do things that we might need inside our office). We eventually managed to get Amicus operating again BUT we lost about 3 months worth of data because the back-up setting was never set when the software was originally installed by the Amicus technician.
DON'T get lured in by the concept of the portal as you will be very disappointed. DON'T use this system if you are a small firm as you will need to have staff to support the use of Amicus Premium. And DON'T use this system if you have a corporate / commercial practice as the settings are all geared towards litigation.
As soon as we can identify a system to replace Amicus (and be in a position to import our 6,000+ contacts into the other system), we will be discontinuing our use of Amicus. Until then, however, we are stuck with a system that charges $250 per month and provides zero support.

**What problems is Amicus Attorney by CARET solving and how is that benefiting you?**

There has been no benefit from what we originally had with Amicus Small Firm Edition.

  ### 7. Amicus Attorney is glitchy and gets bogged down easily but good product in theory

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 30, 2018

**What do you like best about Amicus Attorney by CARET?**

The ability for Amicus to manage all my business needs in one program.

**What do you dislike about Amicus Attorney by CARET?**

The program is very slow and gets bogged down very easily. We have nearly 50 people on the system at one time and when all are on, it causes problems.

**Recommendations to others considering Amicus Attorney by CARET:**

Try it before you purchase!

**What problems is Amicus Attorney by CARET solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Having the ability to have calendar, email and time management in one location.

  ### 8. It's decent

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 30, 2018

**What do you like best about Amicus Attorney by CARET?**

I like that you can keep all of your clients organized and look back and see what the last communication was through the notes section.

**What do you dislike about Amicus Attorney by CARET?**

It is very easily to make duplicate of the same client. I wish there was a feature that would help eliminate that or help to merge 2 of the same clients info together, without having to manually do it.

**What problems is Amicus Attorney by CARET solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is a great tool for keeping your clients and their information organized.

  ### 9. An outdated, yet formerly helpful software program.

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kira O. | Legal Assistant Paralegal, Law Practice, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 04, 2017

**What do you like best about Amicus Attorney by CARET?**

The ability to share calendars and other information between computers at the office.

**What do you dislike about Amicus Attorney by CARET?**

It is quite outdated/often fails to merge important meetings and fails to fully keep up with our legal practice.

**Recommendations to others considering Amicus Attorney by CARET:**

Consider a newer program.

**What problems is Amicus Attorney by CARET solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Scheduling, communication, connection between computers

  ### 10. Amicus Review

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 03, 2018

**What do you like best about Amicus Attorney by CARET?**

The software does contain everything you need for case management

**What do you dislike about Amicus Attorney by CARET?**

But it's always having problems linking with other software, it shuts down too often

**What problems is Amicus Attorney by CARET solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Keeping all case information in one place

  ### 11. Great program, very bad customer service

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 02, 2017

**What do you like best about Amicus Attorney by CARET?**

The case management, calendar, time tracking and contact management is great. It's a useable, visually pleasing platform.

**What do you dislike about Amicus Attorney by CARET?**

The support is very bad. Many techs are not sufficiently skilled. My installation and upgrade to the most recent product, Amicus Premium, was done by a tech who created serious problems with our billing program, Timeslips. A more senior tech later fixed the problem, but we lost significant time in the office dealing with the blunder. Support will not "escalate" a service to a sufficiently skilled tech when you have problems, and then when your problem is finally "escalated" you may still be called by a very junior and unskilled tech. Bad customer service all around.

**What problems is Amicus Attorney by CARET solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are a small law office and have used Amicus for over 25 years.

  ### 12. decent law firm management software - doesn't integrate well

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Clayton D. | Director of Marketing, Law Practice, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 15, 2016

**What do you like best about Amicus Attorney by CARET?**

Very intuitive to use, like the ability to link people with files, calendar events, files, etc. Great time tracking feature, and good integration with outlook to put e-mails into files.

**What do you dislike about Amicus Attorney by CARET?**

First and foremost, Amicus doesn't integrate well with any other software, and it is nearly impossible to build custom solutions for integration (no API). Also, custom reports are very hard to run - we had to set up own on mySQL queries to generate the reports we want. Other usability and interface issues as well.

**Recommendations to others considering Amicus Attorney by CARET:**

Amicus is great for keeping time, calendaring, and people in one software. However, it lives in its own world — hardly can integrate any other software with Amicus. Makes it very difficult to use, in an age where a firm needs multiple technology solutions

**What problems is Amicus Attorney by CARET solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Need to be able to perform conflicts checks, and we need to manage all contacts, including their contact information and relevant segment.

  ### 13. Legal Assistant

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Legal Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 16, 2016

**What do you like best about Amicus Attorney by CARET?**

Not a whole lot. We used Small Firm for many years; due to the increase of staff and small firm no longer having support, (small firm had issues too but it worked better than 2016) we were forced to upgrade. There are little things that are nice but whatever they are I can't think of since it seems like Gavin & Gowen focused on features that are not important to everyday work

**What do you dislike about Amicus Attorney by CARET?**

Sticky's and ComCenter i mostly, contacts cannot be viewed before adding to file, If you have several for one contact you have to add all of them and remove the one you don't want. File contacts can delete for no reason at any time...really its too much to list.

**Recommendations to others considering Amicus Attorney by CARET:**

Find a different program to purchase. The problems with 2016 Premium are endless. Randomly we will loose all the contacts in a file, Support and no explanation...this is beyond a major problem. Sticky notes show up behind all open windows, so you never know you have one unless you are always clicking on the icon. Sticky's do a have pop up window, but if you are not at your desk or looking at your screen for that 3 seconds of the pop up, do have no idea. ComCenter is a real problem for so many reasons, to check a box as done you can delete the wrong one and no way to get it back, when you clear out emails for whatever reason, dealt with, delete....you also now have to go to outlook to delete them there as well. Small Firm used to have outlook and Amicus work together, when you delete in one it would delete in the other.
When you are in a file and are looking at a contact, the contact card is not large enough to view all the details. Always the contact emails are cut off...ridiculous.
When you call for support, usually they are helpful with some things but as for features that are poorly designed....they say, "send and email to support with the problem and they will review..." And if the design team feels it is important (because they would know since they are working on it in the real world) they will make changes, oh but changes will not be implemented until they do an update, which means you could be waiting a very long time for changes. We upgraded in January 2016.....it is now July 2016....I think out of my two page list of complaints, only one has been fixed....and that is being able to hit "ctrl c" vs. using your mouse to copy something. When we have called to complain....support people and told my staff, "your crazy, that could not have happened" As for sales team, they talk all sweet like they are trying to help, but 2 months in when I ask for money back this program has caused to many problems and workflow issues, I am told, returning the software is not an option. I get you cant really return software, but how about some kind of credit...after spending $10k+ to upgrade for this shitty program, oh and by the way it would not upgrade to 2012, out IT guy had to downgrade to 2010 to make it work, but they should have worked with us so we could have moved on to purchase a different, more reliable software. But no, so now I am having to write this review to warn people DO NOT PURCHASE AMICUS...
I could go on and on about how bad this is, but it would be endless.... Oh, I no I will not upload a screenshot...by this review..you know I am a valid user of amicus

**What problems is Amicus Attorney by CARET solving and how is that benefiting you?**

None

  ### 14. Awesome for Our Office

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Adalit C. | Front Office Manager, Legal Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 02, 2016

**What do you like best about Amicus Attorney by CARET?**

All the client's information in one place. Scheduling a client is easy. Opening a new file gives you a nice walk through.

**What do you dislike about Amicus Attorney by CARET?**

There's nothing that I currently dislike of this program. Everything works to perfection.

**Recommendations to others considering Amicus Attorney by CARET:**

It works great to consolidate all of your client's info in one place.
Easy to schedule and reschedule Appointments

**What problems is Amicus Attorney by CARET solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Keeping all the clients information in one place and scheduling an appointment for a client linking it to the clients file is amazing.

  ### 15. Buggy software with poor support.

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Legal Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 02, 2016

**What do you like best about Amicus Attorney by CARET?**

Software was able to be customized to suit our needs. Integration with Outlook was great.

**What do you dislike about Amicus Attorney by CARET?**

Software was buggy and constantly bogged down our server requiring regular reboots. Customer support was poor even before they started focusing on cloud based solutions thereafter it seemed that the focus on the non-cloud solutions did not exist. New cloud based software was very slow from my trial experience.

**Recommendations to others considering Amicus Attorney by CARET:**

Make sure you look at the competition.

**What problems is Amicus Attorney by CARET solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Client relationship management and case flow management.

  ### 16. Amicus Attorney - Solid Product
