Amazon DynamoDB is NoSQL meaning it does not have relations in DB, all we can pick whole record as array or JSON in key-value pair format. This is easy to save records in database, plus, we can directly save it on Cloud. This is serverless architecture which can easily scale up and down tables. The partition key is important when creating and managing this database because it will effectively keep cost of this DB low. It comes in Amazon ecosystem so clients already having this server architecture can easily use this DB without extra cost. Also it uses Elastic MapReduce for analysis and collection data types such as set and list making it easy for read and writes. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Amazon DynamoDB? In DynamoDB ,it is important to choose partition key when data grows because growing data should be evenly partitioned. However, the total provisioned throughput for a table does not increase here. The table throughput will decrease data growth. To serve more queries, it needs more table throughput that will eventually increase cost of DynamoDB continuously. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. Recommendations to others considering Amazon DynamoDB: Amazon DynamoDB is best when your have already chosen Amazon as ecosystem meaning EC2 as deployment, S3 for storage etc. If you are ready to spend more money for growing data and queries then it is better choice, but you need to be cautioned while choosing partition key otherwise you will end up with growing cost. It is easy to setup, technical support is best and managing cluster is easier than other NoSQL. Make your database in such a way that you can serve frequent queries with primary indices, that will be more cost effective. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What problems is Amazon DynamoDB solving and how is that benefiting you? DynamoDB comes under AWS ecosystem. So, clients with already having AWS ecosystem can have DynamoDB in same package. It is very important to choose keys in this DB considering business requirements because, queries fetching data which does not involve primary key index will have to go for secondary indices. Having more secondary indices means more cost. Also, partition key has vital role because it will evenly distribute reads and writes across these partitions. Linear scalability is best thing, you have to be careful while choosing partition and key as few hot partitions can lead to decrease in table throughput. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. Performance and availability. This product is great if your data needs to highly available and you know a little bit about your data when accessing it ( great when searching for single items by primary index). Auto scaling for indexes which are particually spikey can be costly. Costs are created from either additional dev time to manage throttling or more expensive (potentially wasteful) R/W throughput minimums.
