**What do you like best about Amazon Route 53?**

Amazon Route 53 is a highly available, scalable, and fully managed cloud DNS with domain registration and health checking that excels when kept within the AWS ecosystem, thanks to deep, native integration with adjacent AWS services and VPC networking constructs.

The core experience is streamlined by features such as alias records to AWS endpoints, private hosted zones for VPC scopes, and Resolver endpoints for hybrid DNS, which make Route 53 a pragmatic choice for end‑to‑end AWS workloads that need reliable DNS and intelligent traffic routing.


What I Like:

✅ Seamless AWS integration across the stack, including alias records to CloudFront distributions, Application/Network Load Balancers, and S3 static websites, which avoids CNAME limitations at the zone apex and simplifies endpoint mapping in production.

Private hosted zones bind cleanly to one or more VPCs for internal name resolution, and Route 53 Resolver provides inbound and outbound endpoints plus forwarding rules to stitch together on‑premises and multi‑account VPC name spaces without running custom DNS servers.


✅ Mature traffic routing options that cover most production topologies: simple, weighted, latency‑based, geolocation, geoproximity, IP‑based, failover, and multivalue answer policies, plus Traffic Flow for policy orchestration—useful for regional steering, controlled migrations, or blue/green patterns at the DNS layer.


✅ Built‑in health checks that monitor endpoints and feed directly into routing decisions, enabling automated DNS failover and improved resilience without bolting on a separate monitoring‑to‑routing bridge.

Pricing and policy complexity can become mentally taxing at scale: combining multiple advanced routing policies across many zones alongside Resolver rules for hybrid name resolution makes it harder to anticipate costs and behavior

**What problems is Amazon Route 53 solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Route 53 gives me a single, AWS native control plane for domain registration, public and private DNS, and health aware traffic management, so architecture, identity, networking, and deployments stay aligned inside the AWS suite. 

Alias records to CloudFront, ALB or NLB, and S3 keep apex records clean and make endpoint changes transparent during migrations. Flexible routing policies, including weighted, latency, geolocation, IP based, and failover, let me shift traffic across regions and releases intentionally without pushing traffic logic into applications. Built in health checks feed routing decisions to remove unhealthy targets automatically, providing simple high availability at the DNS layer.

In hybrid environments, Route 53 Resolver connects VPC and on premises namespaces with inbound and outbound endpoints and forwarding rules, avoiding custom DNS servers to bridge domains. Private hosted zones enable internal service discovery across one or many VPCs, and DNSSEC covers signing requirements when they are mandated.

The result is deep AWS integration that reduces operational friction, speeds controlled change, and improves resilience without adding extra components to run.
