A fully managed database service by AWS. We don't have to worry about software, licensing, managing servers, etc. It is fully scalable, reliable, can be migrated from anywhere to anywhere, highly available and you can implement RDS in very simple steps. Most importantly it only costs what you use. So you can create a database anytime and you can delete it any time. You only pay that you use the RDS. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS)? The initial starting time of the RDS, up to 10 mins is kind of a dislike to me. And also some other features like if I want to upgrade my database major version it needs some downtime. What problems is Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) solving and how is that benefiting you? At the beginning, we create databases in our servers where our applications are hosts. It is difficult to manage applications and databases on the same server. So what we did is, we moved the databases to another server and this also made it more difficult to manage multiple servers. But When AWS RDS came as a fully managed service, we migrated our databases to RDS and we did not worry about server management, patch updates, availability and so on. Now it is easy to use. Also, and this is something that adds to the user experience, the customer support is active, and they always reply to your queries. There is a drawback when using AWS RDS and this is on the cost front when undertaking complex configurations and intense utilization of resources particularly for the reserved instances.
