Elasticsearch itself is an open source scalable, distributed, real-time search and analytics engine from Elastic, the creators of Logstash, Beats, and Kibana. Elasticsearch makes an excellent alternative to Splunk. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Amazon Elastic search is hardly overwhelming, coming with a very basic tool kit and an outdated release version. And it’s expensive. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Amazon Elasticsearch Service provides a step-by-step guide and process to setting up your own Elasticsearch infrastructure, so for those who are as familiar with DevOps experience (like me), it allows end users to navigate and set up a service quickly and easily. There's not much you CAN do if you do want the bells and whistles of a fully featured and operational Elasticsearch. It has no access to logs (BIG drawback, especially when it comes to debugging and measuring times for certain queries I am using in my application) and, furthermore, zero monitoring for cluster metrics, which is important for measuring how much usage we're getting out of it from a business standpoint. In the end, we had to go with a custom installation of Elastic Search because what this service offers is not even close to what we expect and need from a search and analytics engine.
