There should be more options for students/trial users to have a taste of what these machines are capable of. But after the arrival of AWS, it has become very much convenient to use this service as per our requirements. Not just this, it has become a very secure source to host our applications and utilize the resources through this service. It is costing the resources as per the utilization which cuts so much cost during no-peak hours, benefitting organizations very well. Second, I would say ease of use, it is very easy to operate and learn. So many resources are available to understand the structure and use of this service, and certifications are also available. The best thing I like is you get wide range of aws images from which you can create your own instance stating from windows to linux. Large number of linux and windows distros are available which comes with pre installed softwares support for specific usage. It gives free tier of 750 hrs per month of micro instances which I guess is very encouraging for new users specially for those who are in a learning phase of cloud infrastructures. Another nice thing I found is one can add up elastic block store (EBS) as per their needs and can even stop EBS if the instance is not currently running. Its pretty awesome to find they charge you only for the uptime and the resources you are using. Rest of the time the resources are distributed among others when not in use. That's why one gets different ip every time they starts their instance unless one has assigned a elastic ip dedicatedly.
