On-Demand instances are useful when workloads are very unpredictable, I am able to instantly terminate and provision other EC2 servers if needed. Whereas if I am able to predict what might be the demand of the traffic and computation power I need then it would be better to use Reserved Instance, where I have to pay in advance but get discounts at an hourly rate compared to On-Demand instances. This type of instance can be bought for 1 year or 3-year term. the other is pay-as-you-go instances, which is feasible if the traffic is unstable and varies a lot. The advantage here is, you only pay for the resources that have been utilized. Talking about the security feature, I can isolate my EC2 instances using my own VPC, apply firewall rules using Security Groups, maintain privileges using IAM, enabling EC2 termination protection ON to prevent unintentional deletion of the instance. Attaching IAM roles to the EC2 instance is another cool thing to do because if my EC2 instance needs to work with other services then I can easily attach IAM roles to access other services on my behalf. **What do you dislike about Amazon EC2?** Time and again maintenance and management: We are responsible for monitoring, provisioning, patching, and scaling instances that might need some expertise on the underlying infrastructure. Personally, I have felt that instance startups are very slow and it takes some time to complete check status as passed. Though it has a variety of price models for instance pay-as-you-go can be costly if traffics are not monitored carefully. Modifying underlying infrastructure is very easy and fast to overcome my needs. Compared to buying, configuring, and maintaining on-premises servers, EC2 has great advances over these. When we install software from the EC2 marketplace, everything is essentially pre-configured. Backup is simple with snapshots, but it will cost you money. We can choose the operating system and estimate how much we'll pay. You need an AWS-certified expert to navigate and understand most of its services. It is difficult to navigate among the services, especially for a person who is new to the platform. My personal opinion is that the user experience could be friendlier. If you compare it with other small providers like DigitalOcean or Vultr, they feel a lot more user-friendly. Sometimes if you start using different services of AWS and are unfamiliar with the costs involved the bills start to pile up rather exponentially.
