  ### 1. Warning: AltoStack Free AWS Credits Scam

**Describe the project or task AltoStack helped with:**

Our company was recently the victim of a scam by AltoStack, so we feel it is our duty to report this abuse and help others avoid the same mistake.

AltoStack promised us $3K in free AWS credits in exchange for evaluating their services, starting back in April 2020. We completed their assessment, and they gave us a promo code for the free AWS credits, which returned an "Invalid Promotion Code" error when entered into our AWS account. I called AltoStack's Head of Sales to try to resolve the issue, and he asked us to email him a screenshot of the error message so his team could generate a new code for us.

We emailed over the screenshot, as requested, and followed up again a few days later. Eventually, we heard from the Founder & CEO, who told us the Head of Sales was no longer with the company, and that he would look into the matter first thing the next Monday.

That Monday came and went without any updates from the CEO. I tried calling his mobile and followed up via email that Thursday. I then tried calling again and texting him on Friday. I never received a response to any of these messages, so I sent yet another email the following Sunday expressing my frustration.

He finally responded to my more strongly worded email, making it clear that he had no intention of honoring the commitments AltoStack made to us or fixing the issue with the invalid promo code they provided. It was clearly a fake offer and blatant "bait and switch" tactic to entice us to evaluate the services, which we genuinely did. AltoStack, however, chose not to follow through on the promised incentive and wasted our team's time in the process.

It's difficult for me to write this and share such a disappointing experience, but I think that holding bad actors accountable is extremely important. I hope that others won't make the same mistake and avoid working with AltoStack since the company and its CEO clearly can't be trusted.

**What do you like best about AltoStack?**

We liked working with the Head of Sales, but again he's no longer with AltoStack, so there is nothing about the company we can recommend.

**What do you dislike about AltoStack?**

AltoStack uses deceptive marketing tactics to attract potential customers. Their CEO is a very poor communicator who chose not to follow through on the commitments that he and his team made.

**Recommendations to others considering AltoStack:**

Avoid AltoStack at all costs!

**What problems is AltoStack solving and how is that benefiting you?**

AltoStack completed an AWS Well Architected review for the promised $3K AWS credits, which were never delivered.
