I have been working with old libraries in my buissnes (they have been working on electronics since 1995) and I don't have the time to update everything, so a lot of errors pop up all the time. **What problems is Altium Develop solving and how is that benefiting you?** Version control, MCAD compativility was a big problem, active BOM has solver a lot of paperwork. The auto-routing of tracks in layouts can also be very inefficient. It seems like updates and "feature enhancements" are just pushed so the users don't feel like their money is being wasted, however they don't really provide much value, or in my case the exact opposite of value. Also the documentation is now really bad. 2017 and prior had awesome docs. 2018 and on the doc's seem to be written by software engineers, not actual hardware engineers that use and truly understand the features. **What problems is Altium Develop solving and how is that benefiting you?** schematic capture and PCB design. ### 12. In Altium 365, handling components on the server's library is easier. Usage of the same symbol for many RLC components gave needed uniformity. Short Help videos are good. Versioning and release comments in 365 improve development process. Templates in 365 are convenient. **What do you dislike about Altium Develop?** If you touch a Variant in a project just to look at the schematic, then your project is "changed", and it is impossible to undo the non-existing change. It is quite disturbing. Re-Use block functionality is not developed properly. Making a mistake during the Import from the Schematic to PCB creates future problems. Getting rid of the "imaginary nets or connections" is a challenge. Cross Probe or Zoom-In on potential changes during the Import to PCB does not normally work for the PCB side. Strange focus on having the 1st pin of a component at the exact position still affects older projects - the shifts should be corrected manually (after implementing uniform symbols). Otherwise, a physical shift in the schematic as well as variants misalignment forces engineers to spend time on the fixes. In general, Help is not always fruitful. It is not obvious where to find a needed feature. Having managed access to all components through the company is great instead of having to share a library back and forth. Also putting projects on the server helps team collaboration for our formula student team. **What do you dislike about Altium Develop?** One downside of altium 365 is its integration with MCAD co-designer. Projects must be uploaded to the workspace which can cause the workspace to get cluttered. **What problems is Altium Develop solving and how is that benefiting you?** Altium 365 solves my biggest problem of having to pass a component library between the team. The ability to set from which number the designator numbers start depending on the page. Previously, when placing a resistor on a wire, it was necessary to modify the wiring, but now overlapping wires are automatically deleted. The ability to easily paste images onto the schematic. The advantage of being able to design seamlessly without the need to output a netlist and pass it to PCBCAD. It's good that the destination of signals is easy to understand. Compared to OrCAD, it's easier to create symbols (easy editing of shapes and adjustment of placement intervals). December 2023 Addendum Simulation has become more user-friendly in Altium24. **What do you dislike about Altium Develop?** The shape of the board subtly changes, and a perfect circle becomes a jagged circle (polygon). The board shape is difficult to create (currently, it's easier to use AutoCAD, etc.). Even when the language is set to Japanese, most of the display is in English. When simulations are repeated many times, Altium becomes sluggish (this might be because only 16GB of memory is installed, but I want to know how much memory is actually needed, whether it's 32GB or 64GB). It would be helpful to have a function that automatically assigns designators when components are placed (it might already exist, and I just don't know about it). - When copying PCBDWF data created in another project in a Draftsman document, you cannot change the linked PCB data in the settings. - While working on a PCB, accidentally pressing unintended shortcut keys can lead to spending time investigating how to revert the changes. - When updating to Altium23, the update around the pads caused the pad setting information to be lost, forcing me to re-enter it. **What problems is Altium Develop solving and how is that benefiting you?** Seamlessly transition from circuit design to PCB design, and easily output manufacturing data and implementation materials. You can view projects / pcbs in your Webbrowsers, which can be of great value if you are on the go and can not access a computer with the Altium designer software. The close cloud integration makes it easy to work on a project with a group of people and the version control prevents from accidentally messing up a project. **What do you dislike about Altium Develop?** You need a while to get started, since there are a lot of functions, that can be a bit overwhelming in the beginning. For hobbyists it might be quite annoying that you have to add all the components you want to use manually. This has made it the defacto choice for mid-size businesses. The feature-set is good, although some minor bugs & quirks still exist particularly with the online services and component search. Unlike older versions of Altium Designer, software crashes and the dreaded "access violation at address" errors are now much rarer, so Altium do now seem to be focussing on fixing bugs rather than just constantly adding new features. **What do you dislike about Altium Develop?** Altium's pricing options have become fractured, and many useful features are now resticted to higher-tier license levels which have become prohititively expensive for most mid-size (50-250 employee) companies.
