**What do you like best about Altium Develop?**

We can create small discussions inside the schematic. All team member can access the modifications immediately online. Also, the port-jump function is very useful for large designs.

**What do you dislike about Altium Develop?**

The web UI is a little bit slow. Also, would be very useful to have a function to migrate altium 365 projects to standard git repositiries. The GUI scaling is a littl bit sluggish on 2560x1600 with 120dpi (96 dpi 1080p and 4k with 200dpi works like a charm)

**What problems is Altium Develop solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Collaboration with my multi-location teams. From mechanical engineering to firmware developers. 

It saves time to us and it helps in the bugfixing process, in the review process, in the board bring-up process.

The BOMdoc manager is a must have tool now for me. Quick price calculation and BOM export per distributor saved us a lot of time during the chip shortage.

**What do you like best about Altium Develop?**

I use Altium Develop for designing LED circuit boards, power supplies, nixie tube clocks, and other fun projects. The best feature for me is the ability to switch to the 3D board view, which allows me to visualize the layout and catch interferences easily. I love the software and how far it has come over the years. When I started using the software, there were no full libraries of the parts I use, so I created them and found it quite easy. The large YouTube community was helpful if I got stuck. I always recommend Altium Develop to everyone I encounter even though some can't afford it.

**What do you dislike about Altium Develop?**

I am annoyed with the new subscription model. I HATE that I go to start the program and then find that I need to login again and again. I wish that they would remember the last 2 computers used on an allow it to just start up.

**What problems is Altium Develop solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Altium Develop to visualize circuit board layouts in 3D, which helps me catch interferences and envision my projects as art before manufacturing.

**What do you like best about Altium Develop?**

Working with Altium allows you to set up your environment exactly the way you like it (it's very configurable) and lets you automate most of the time-consuming labor. It feels like modern software, unlike some competitor software that feels like it was designed in the 80s and just keeps piling on top of an old architecture. The collaboration features added with Altium 365 are incredible, they have made the review process as well as working with mechanical and firmware colleagues MUCH smoother.
Finally, it brings all the different software you may be using into one: Schematics, Layout, Procurement, Cable Design, Simulation, etc.

**What do you dislike about Altium Develop?**

The combination of the new license tiers ("Develop", "Agile", etc) and the A365 workspace tiers ("Standard", "Pro", "Enterprise") makes it confusing to know what you're getting. After upgrading to the modern subscription tiers I was surprised with the features I got or didn't get.

**What problems is Altium Develop solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Everything in Altium is configurable and the configurations can be saved and recalled so that you never waste time re-configuring the options when working on different projects. 

Draftsman makes generating fabrication and assembly drawings very smooth.

Altium 365 makes teamwork and collaboration very easy. I love the comments/tasks feature that lets you start a conversation around a particular part of the schematics or layout and discuss it with the team until it is resolved. It reminds me of a graphical equivalent of Git for software.

I've used the collaborative layout tools and the merge process is very smooth, which allows two or three people advancing different sections of the same layout in parallel.

Most of the processes we used to write in Word documents about our internal PCB footprint standards or where to place notes on the fab drawing have been captured inside Altium now so that you no longer need all this "support documentation" outside of your ECAD.

**What do you like best about Altium Develop?**

What I consider the most helpful thing about Altium Develop is the built-in version control and structured collaboration it brings to hardware design. It makes it much easier to track changes, manage revisions, and see who modified what without relying on manual file naming or shared drives.

I don’t have to worry about losing changes, overwriting someone else’s work, or digging through old file versions to figure out what happened. Everything is tracked clearly, and collaboration feels more organized. Since it works directly within Altium Designer through Altium 365, it feels like a seamless part of the design process rather than an extra tool to maintain. Overall, it just makes teamwork smoother and reduces the friction that usually comes with managing complex PCB projects.

**What do you dislike about Altium Develop?**

One thing I don’t like about Altium Designer is that it can feel heavy and complex, especially for new users. The learning curve is steep, and sometimes simple tasks take multiple steps if you’re not already familiar with the software.

Another downside is that bugs can sometimes appear with no clear way to fix them, and there isn’t much information or guidance available to resolve these issues.

Altium Develop helps eliminate version confusion and makes collaboration much easier. It keeps track of changes, so I can always see who did what, and it speeds up design reviews and the process of getting feedback. Overall, it makes working on PCB projects feel less stressful, more organized, and easier to manage.

**What do you like best about Altium Develop?**

What I like best about Altium Designer is its unified design environment, which completely eliminates the synchronisation friction often found when moving between disparate software suites. Having used it for years across high-complexity professional projects and personal builds, the seamless link between schematic capture, active component management, and PCB layout is unmatched.

The interface is intuitive and professional. Instead of wrestling with netlist exports, features like Design Synchroniser (ECO) allow me to push schematic changes to the layout instantly. The integrated 3D PCB editor is an incredible asset; being able to visualize the physical clearance of multi-board assemblies and export accurate STEP files directly to mechanical teams saves hours of back-and-forth design iterations.

The platform’s integration with Altium 365 and real-time manufacturer lifecycles changes how hardware is engineered. With the ActiveBOM feature, component availability, pricing, and lifecycle data are updated live within the project. This makes sourcing components risk-free by flagging obsolete parts long before the design hits production. Collaborating with assembly partners and external engineers is entirely painless via cloud-based design sharing and version-controlled workspaces.

From a performance standpoint, the 64-bit multi-threaded engine handles massive, high-density interconnect (HDI) layouts with thousands of components smoothly. Complex copper pours and interactive routing modes (like walkaround, push, and hug) remain responsive without lagging. One of the primary challenges of using Altium Designer is the steep learning curve driven by the software's vast, enterprise-grade feature set. For newcomers or junior team members transitioning from simpler tools, the sheer density of the environment is initially overwhelming. Mastering the intricate configuration of the universal Design Rules Check (DRC) matrix, managing multi-layer stackups, or setting up complex high-speed design constraints requires a massive initial time investment. Navigating deep, nested dialog menus for everyday tasks, such as modifying component footprints, configuring panelisation, or setting up customised output job files (OutJob), frequently stalls momentum early on. Because the platform packs every conceivable hardware engineering tool into a single interface, it takes months of dedicated training before a new user can fully grasp the advanced workflows and match the rapid deployment speed of an experienced team.

This onboarding friction is further intensified by the complexity of its underlying database management and cloud-hosted project integration. Learning how to properly sync local design changes with Altium 365 workspaces, manage version control histories, and handle collaborative library components without causing library conflict errors introduces a layer of software overhead that demands rigorous discipline. While the system's performance is incredibly robust once mastered, the initial experience of managing massive, multi-sheet schematics and dense multi-board layouts can feel remarkably daunting. Minor missteps in assigning net classes or setting up differential pairs early in the schematic capture phase can lead to a cascade of complex validation errors during layout routing. Regarding the platform's newer intelligence capabilities, I do not use the AI features integrated into Altium Designer. While automated placement assistance or AI-driven routing suggestions might offer utility for certain workflows, my projects demand a level of precision and strict adherence to specific constraint parameters that require complete manual control. Relying on custom-defined design rules and traditional interactive routing methods ensures that every layout choice is intentional, predictable, and fully optimised for our exact manufacturing requirements without the unpredictability of automated assistance.

**What problems is Altium Develop solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Altium Designer solves the critical problem of design fragmentation and communication silos between internal engineering teams, assembly houses, and fabrication plants. Prior to adopting this platform, a significant amount of time was wasted converting file formats, manually generating assembly drawings, and double checking that manufacturing outputs precisely matched the final schematic revisions. Because it operates as the definitive industry standard, it establishes a flawless common language that external partners and colleagues instantly understand, which completely eliminates compatibility errors and streamlines the entire hardware release cycle.

The integration with Altium 365 addresses the massive challenge of version chaos and collaborative library management. Instead of emailing static project archives or zipped Gerber files back and forth, teams can work concurrently in a centralised cloud workspace. Real time data syncing allows external manufacturing partners to review layouts and flag potential fabrication issues early in the design phase. **What do you like best about Altium Develop?**

I’ve recently moved from using EAGLE to Altium, and I already find that it’s speeding up my workflow. Although it took some adapting, I can see myself using the shortcut key sequences more and more as I get comfortable.

The active BOM is a massive time-saver for me. Being able to link parts with manufacturers and distributors, and to see the cost of parts at a glance, makes a real difference.

I also love the MCAD integration - works amazingly. 

It works well in my 5 year old PCB without any performance issues. 

The main reason that triggered the switch to Altium was the recent introduction of Altium Develop, which comes with a much cheaper subscription than what we were quoted when we inquired in the past.

**What do you dislike about Altium Develop?**

My main issue right now is that, more often than not, the app logs me out whenever my PC wakes up from sleep. There’s also no way to reclaim the seat from within the app, so I always have to restart it.

The other thing thats a minor annoyance is that the whenever I import components from websites or manufacturers they layers don't match my layers and colors. I have to individually modify the layer list for each component.

**What problems is Altium Develop solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Altium is proving to be a more professional software than EAGLE for us. Particularly streamlining the production process with active BOM and data generation, whereas on eagle it was a more involved workflow.

**What do you like best about Altium Develop?**

I appreciate Altium Develop for its visually appealing and user-friendly interface. It's packed with aided features that are integrated with tools to help design for various goals, such as signal integrity and EMI reduction, including a length matching calculator. I love the smooth integration with tools like SolidWorks, allowing ECAD to seamlessly integrate with MCAD. This is particularly useful when designing for size, form, and harnessing needs. When rules are defined correctly, it simplifies the engineer's job significantly after completing schematics and defining PCB shape and component placement. I also found setting up Altium Develop to be easy once the license is paid, and the ability to create users for visualization is a great benefit of the Develop license.

**What do you dislike about Altium Develop?**

Sometimes wrong rules, or the complexity of the rules equations (inclusions and exclusions). The rules are a make or break for the design after all. I've been struggling lately with grids in schematics, something happens during a design that the grids get off, and I'm struggling to match components to traces. It would be good to have almost an automated or suggested pin type and direction assessment done on the schematics to have the proper rule-check when driving pins and wrongly connected or antennas are created.

Altium Develop lets me create precise hardware designs, integrating well with mechanical constraints and tools like SolidWorks. It simplifies design with features for signal integrity and EMI reduction, and eases layout work with defined rules, though setting them correctly is crucial.

**What do you like best about Altium Develop?**

The main functions for designing a PCB didn’t change when moving to Altium Designer Pro, while the pricing went lower, so I didn’t need to learn the software controls all over again. The most useful tool for me is Altium 365 because it lets coworkers without a license view the schematic and PCB easily.

**What do you dislike about Altium Develop?**

We store our Altium files on a local network drive so everyone can access them. However, I think the network connection impacts Altium’s performance heavily, and thus the performance has been very disappointing. Also, the option to add a managed OutJob was removed when moving to Altium Develop. On top of that, the support during our prior active subscription was disappointing as well, because it took over a month to migrate our Altium 365 server to Develop.

**What problems is Altium Develop solving and how is that benefiting you?**

One important function is being able to track all the parts used in PCBs and monitor their lifecycle status, so we can respond quickly and replace components that become obsolete.

What I like most about Altium Develop is its ability to streamline the entire electronics product development lifecycle by bringing the engineering, design, and manufacturing teams together in one environment. The platform improves visibility into project progress, makes requirement management easier, and helps us reduce communication gaps, which leads to faster and more efficient product delivery.

**What do you dislike about Altium Develop?**

In larger PCB projects, the current layout settings feel restrictive. There are only a handful of configuration options, and the workflow and reporting customization could be far more flexible. Right now, the interface and the overall customization experience feel limiting, making it harder than it should be to tailor the setup to our needs. When we use the PCB interface—especially for larger project setups—it still feels constrained and doesn’t adapt as well as we need.

**What problems is Altium Develop solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It solves the challenge of managing complex electronics development projects across multiple teams and stakeholders. It centralizes project information, requirements, design data, and the collaboration flow. This reduces communication gaps between teams and helps avoid version control issues. It has helped our team improve project visibility, accelerate decision-making, minimize errors, and bring products to market more efficiently.

**What do you like best about Altium Develop?**

Strong features to accomplish job.  Octopart is a great feature that allows me to get some components with ease and use them, along with auto linking BOM information to ensure the part is stocked and current.

**What do you dislike about Altium Develop?**

The being tied into a cloud only based library that prevents adding footprints or others who are using enterprise or pro versions of the tool from having me hand off the design and do layout where I did schematic design is a major frustration.  Component selection and maintinance is a nightmare where each source of component schematics and footprint have include part numbers and manufacturers in an inconsistent way with no mature/maintained/valid working scripting interface that AI can even figure out how to get to work to maintain those inconsestencies is a major issue.  When sourcing design elements from other designs if they where not generated with the cloud based library mine seems to be locked into, the components are orphaned.  Missing key functions to validate component values for resistors/capacitors/inductors against part number and rules like smt only shown aged and non-modern capabilities.  System is always loosing connection to server, lags out, is extremely show for many operations.   Things that should take 1-2 minutes end up taking hours.  Always fighting with network lag issues, crashes, and failed operations due to network issues.  No other tool on my network has these problems.

**What problems is Altium Develop solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I need a tool to design schematics and have consultants help with layout.  I can design the schematics.  Handoff to the consultants is problematic due to the way libraries are managed.  Further, unless they come into my system and use my licences instead of their own setups, the transition of designs back and forth leaves something to be desired.  Overally, I am able to get the schematics designed and hand them off, but it is not efficent.
