No longer recommend Altium Designer **Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Verified User in Electrical/Electronic Manufacturing | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.) **Reviewed Date:** April 29, 2025 **What do you like best about Altium Develop?** Been a professional user of AD for 15+ years having also used Allegro, PADS, KiCAD, EAGLE, etc. UI Design is the best in the industry for ease of use. Particularly the "properties panel" and "Design Rules" graphical interfaces. **What do you dislike about Altium Develop?** New subscription model and price gouging by 4x is disrespectful and bad value. My org already left SolidWorks for similar mis-behavior. AD hasn't added ANY practical "features" and continues to ignored bugs 6+ years old one of which is a CAM output error that causes A LOT of headache. New tools they've added like wire harness design are VERY far from feature complete compared to competitors like Enterprise Harness which my org uses. Overall Altium has lost touch with their userbase and their executives are clearly going for the short term cash grab and willing to let Altium slide slowly into irrelevance. Seen it so many time before. I've been using KiCAD lately after it made HUGE strides in features and anticipate being able to migrate my organization to KiKAD in the near future after just a few key features are added. STR´G +C, ...) - Ease of use is missing - if you use Altium very frequent, you will know a lot of shortcuts and some function will be really fats - maybe a good solution for large development teams (some person for library, some for routing and some for developing the schematic) **What do you dislike about Altium Develop?** - no user manual and help in native language are available - not possible to print what you see on the screen - libraries are not organized and the footprints are not the best, so you should modify them manually - help is not very helpful, so you better search in google- not easy to integrate - customer support cannot help if you have problems (e.g. import schematics from eagle without errors) so it ois not possible to integrate your existing designs - to use Altium - auto placement of components is missing - autorouter is difficult to use - **What problems is Altium Develop solving and how is that benefiting you?** help function usually gives no usefull result, so you have to use google instad updated functions very often, it needs a lot of youtr time **Official Response from Alanna Jordan:** > Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback on Altium Designer. I do not have an answer. **What do you dislike about Altium Develop?** It's expensive. It's always CHANGING so you can't rely on your PREVIOUS experience using it. That STUPID Integrated Component Library is not MANDATORY to use. I can't find any of the OLD library parts anymore! **What problems is Altium Develop solving and how is that benefiting you?** Their stupid Integrated Component Library makes the job 10x harder. I find it impossible to use at all. I'm going to QUIT my job to get away from this CRAPPY tool my company INSISTS on using; let THEM deal with Altium's crappy attitude. Most of all it is buggy and the developers don't appear to want to fix them.
