ALEKS uses adaptive questioning to quickly and accurately determine exactly what a student knows and doesn't know in a course. ## ALEKS Reviews ### 1. I find the text videos helpful with introducing new subjects. I feel like they give just enough information to help you get started. You arent going to learn everything you know from the videos though, and reading a math textbook does nothing but confuse me, so sometimes i have to look up the subjects on Khan University instead but for the most part, i find the videos helpful. **What do you dislike about ALEKS?** I get SO frustrated watching the same videos I just complemented. If i pause the video to take notes, it boots me out. It doesnt matter if i am clicking the pause and unpause button. It still kicks me out wayyyy outside of that "30 minutes" idle time. I am not idle. I am literally clicking pause and unpause while making my way through. Then, when i go onto the next video, all the buttons are greyed out, and i have to exit the program, get back on the program, and then refind my videos. Really annoying, but it gets worse. That video you were working on is marked as unwatched (because they logged you out) and you have to watch it again to get full points. Luckily for me, I dont get points for watching the videos, and i can still submit them, but id imagine if you are graded on them, youll have to rewatch everything for it to mark them as all watched. I dont know if this is a regular problem, or if i need to go through technical support or something, but i have math work to be done, i dont have time to do that. I find it really annoying and i wish theyd fix it because I like this program a 1000 times more than XYZ, and i like that i have the option to go through my pie chart and hone in my skills. I dont do that because i have current assignments due, along with all my other classes, but if i did have the time, I would totally take advantage of that feature. **What problems is ALEKS solving and how is that benefiting you?** I dont really have any issues i am trying to solve. I am just doing what my instructor asks me to do. If i am comparing it to the program XYZ, I do think that it helps me better understand the mathmetics, and I didnt know it did other courses. ### 2. The program is simple to use once you get started and there are a lot of features within the program. I used this for math so there were rulers, graph makers, and calculators available. **What do you dislike about ALEKS?** It took me a long time to start using the software did not work on certain web browsers and I ended up using the software on Mozilla Firefox. I had to download firefox and perform additional steps in order to run Aleks. **Recommendations to others considering ALEKS:** Pricing is a bit high and the program should be able to run on different browsers. This would make the program more convenient and it would decrease the amount of customer support needed. **What problems is ALEKS solving and how is that benefiting you?** As an accounting major, I have taken Aleks exams for schools and work assessments. ### 4. I spent far less office-hour time tutoring students on financial accounting material. ALEKS provides a great way for educators teaching the introduction to accounting course to address the functional competencies of financial accounting in both an efficient and effective manner. I love the new interface that just recently got deployed. Tablet-friendly interface with easier, faster navigation and Student reports, providing progress data and giving students greater visibility into and ownership of their learning. **What do you dislike about ALEKS?** There really isn't much I dislike about this program. Its very well versed and detailed in the content that it provides. **What problems is ALEKS solving and how is that benefiting you?** None. ### 5. The games for whole group instruction are valuable tools for engaging every learner. **What do you dislike about ALEKS?** There are often glitches that cause the software to hesitate or shut down. The program really only works using Chrome. It is not as user-friendly as it could be. It is hard to find where certain documents are stored. The answer keys are incorrect. **What problems is ALEKS solving and how is that benefiting you?** The videos, music, and games help keep the students engaged. The students know what to expect and enjoy the structure and routine.
