While Akeeba produces some great software, their backup software for Joomla & Wordpress is second to none. Unlike most other backup tools, it creates a self-installing backup. When it's time to migrate a site, you simply throw up the backup and a php launcher and boom, it's done. Setup is easy - it does most of it for you. Backup is easy - hit the button and go Migration is easy - download the backup and the kickstart file and upload it to the new server. I used Akeeba backup weekly for the best part of a decade and had very few problems. Any time I contacted support, they were proactive and extremely helpful. Akeeba Backup is a must-have plugin. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Akeeba? The only element I ever had trouble with was my browser auto-complete creating passwords for the backup archives. Backing up & migrating sites can be problematic. This is particularly true on Wordpress, where most backup & restore products do more of a merge than an exact restoration. I used it for years on Joomla and moved to Wordpress and luckily found it again. It's clear, simple and for me the best. I have had different problems with other tools, with Akeeba I have always solved them. The assistance is excellent and very professional, the installation is simple as for all plugins. Akeeba backup and admin tools is an indispensable extension for Joomla security, if you want to keep secure and always Online your Joomla website Akeeba admin tools is an extension that you need to use from the begin. Akeeba admin tools is a complete set to keep secure your Joomla web site and work excellent but is not an extension for everyone, you need to know what is you are doing due you can create conflit and block some esencial process. We was looking for two thigs, to keep secure the site and avoid exploit the Joomla site through SQL injection Vulnerabilitis and make automatic backups of the important parts of the site. By default, WordPress is not as secure as other CMS, and it was necessary to work on this matter, and Akeeba was the right decision. Akeeba is easy to install and configure. Once set up, it's easy to backup your files and then manage them. Akeeba has excellent steo-by-step videos that show you how to manage each step. What do you dislike about Akeeba? Akeeba is a bit "hands on" when it comes to utilizing the backup. It would be nice if they made it a bit more automated, however, it's very effective and does a great job of backup up an entire website! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. Recommendations to others considering Akeeba: Make sure you read all the installation and restore documentation that Akeeba provides, before installing and using the software. I also recommend watching all their step-by-step videos for guidance. Also be sure to download a copy of the backup file from within the Akeeba plugin control panel, or from your server, and save it on an external hard drive for additional backup. I no longer have to worry about bad coding, or forgetting something when developing and managing a website, as I know if I lose my website data, I can easily utilize Akeeba to set it back up, in less than an hour. There's a bit of a challenge in setting up Akeeba when you have to reinstall your backup, and it can be a bit confusing. Considering how involved the process, it's well-worth the effort. Recommendations to others considering Akeeba: It might seem intimidating at first, but if you just follow each step outlined in their videos, you can easily backup your entire website and restore it, if necessary. After that happens a couple of times, you learn to backup and find solutions for protecting your content and db, like Akeeba. For my Joomla websites, Akeeba Backup works best. Akeeba is not always the easiest product to use, but it does the best job, and is very thorough. The administration panel is a bit old-fashioned and clunky, but the end product is so effective, that's not really something to complain about. Recommendations to others considering Akeeba: Even though Akeeba is fantastic, I suggest users do the following, in ADDITION TO using Akeeba to backup your files: 1) download a complete copy of your MySQL db; make note of your db user info, email, password, etc.; as soon as you complete an Akeeba backup, download it to an off-online-site location; save all this info and data to your off-online site hard drive, "just in case." If you've ever accidentally deleted your website, added a plugin that ended up hosing your website, unknowingly deleted content, or you've just done something dumb and hosed your website like I have...you can use Akeeba to put your website back, in its entirety!
