## NetApp AFF A-Series Reviews
 ### 1. NVMe Storage

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Abhiuday M. | Senior Administrator (Wintel & Virtualization), Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 11, 2024

**What do you like best about NetApp AFF A-Series?**

NVMe is more faster than flash storage. It's more efficient to transfer data from NVMe Storage to server.

**What do you dislike about NetApp AFF A-Series?**

Freshly written data to NVME are fast to read. But over few months to year they gradually slower to read. When you refresh them it is fast again.

**What problems is NetApp AFF A-Series solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Unlike protocols designed in the days of mechanical hard disk drives, NVMe leverages not just solid-state storage, but also today’s multicore CPUs and gigabytes of memory.

 ### 2. NVMe fast and reliable

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Electrical/Electronic Manufacturing | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 26, 2023

**What do you like best about NetApp AFF A-Series?**

The NVMe storage is the second generation of the SSD which comes after the hard drive. The NVMe is much better and faster than the HDD and the SSD. There is no mechanical component that moves which make it more durable in case of handeling shocks.

**What do you dislike about NetApp AFF A-Series?**

From my point of view, i don't see downsides for the NVMe. It is fast reliable and has low latency. The only thing that can be pointed to is that it is expensive. More expensive than the SSD.
Also, it is not compatible with all laptops, if your motherboard isn't "new" you might face compatible issue

**What problems is NetApp AFF A-Series solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The NVMe offers high performance low latency which is critical aspect in my work

 ### 3. World-class products, Latest features, best in performance.

**What do you like best about NetApp AFF A-Series?**

Fast Performance & cool operation, software support, Reliable Hardware,Hybrid PSLC caching, Good warranty,Impresive endurance ratings, competitive pricing, TCG Opal 2.0 SED support,Mainstream perfomance, Efficient SSDs,Custome firmware designed for direct storages, +RGB, low cost, AES 256 bit encryption.

**What do you dislike about NetApp AFF A-Series?**

Limited support,no power loss protection, old technology, design cloud use a makeover, some SSDs are highly cost, No heatsink by default, optional feature, slow write speed after write cache fills, lacks AES hardware encryption.

**What problems is NetApp AFF A-Series solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Unrivales peak performance and with right cache design as on the game model, strong sustained performance.Ideal for workstation tasks, cheaper than other products, maintain decent warranty.

 ### 4. Quick and Reliable

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Hardware | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 20, 2023

**What do you like best about NetApp AFF A-Series?**

NVMe storage is much faster than the previous solutions I was working with. It's also quite reliable in the fast that I can do other things while information is writing to the drive.

**What do you dislike about NetApp AFF A-Series?**

There aren't a lot of downsides, but I do not think I can use this in all of my builds. It depends heavily on the other hardware you're working with. I would like for more compatibility across both new and older hardware.

**What problems is NetApp AFF A-Series solving and how is that benefiting you?**

NVMe storage is helping us retain and hold records as required for up to 7 years. It is an inexpensive solution to a problem we will continue to face for the rest of time.

 ### 5. NVMe storage is an excellent choice for top-tier performance.

**What do you like best about NetApp AFF A-Series?**

Speed: NVMe SSDs can deliver significantly faster read and write speeds compared to SATA SSDs. This results in faster boot times, quicker application launches, and improved overall system responsiveness.

**What do you dislike about NetApp AFF A-Series?**

Cost: NVMe SSDs are generally more expensive than SATA SSDs or traditional hard drives. This can be a factor to consider, especially for those on a tight budget.

**What problems is NetApp AFF A-Series solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Efficiency: NVMe devices are designed to be power-efficient, which can lead to longer battery life in laptops and reduced energy consumption in data centers.

 ### 8. Optimum storage for performance intensive applications

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Saurabh W. | Senior Software Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 29, 2022

**What do you like best about NetApp AFF A-Series?**

The stability of the software and hardware components over a long period has proven it's a good base to build a service platform for the business needs both now and into the future. It serves the performance requirements for heavy databases as well as applications.

**What do you dislike about NetApp AFF A-Series?**

Even though the AFF series have faster drives and computing, it struggles with high block size traffic that's generated from SQL and Oracle DB instances. Also, it needs improvement in terms of patch management from the vendor.

**Recommendations to others considering NetApp AFF A-Series:**

It is a capable system which will meet performance requirements. However, it will struggle when someone from the DB team will run a bad query.

**What problems is NetApp AFF A-Series solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The rapidly growing ability to automate the day-to-day operations of the product is enabling us to drive our costs to operate down and delivery quality up, allowing us to focus on other areas of the business. We can do this without worry as the platform is so reliable. Over time the software efficiencies have improved and we're able to see first-hand when upgrading. The savings due to dedupe and compression are close to what is predicted giving us assurance on the sizing of replacement systems.

**What do you like best about NetApp AFF A-Series?**

NetApp AFF A200 is an entry-level array for small organizations that are either looking to begin with or migrate to all-flash storage, or as a nice option for remote/branch offices. The A200 is a dual-controller platform powered by six-core Intel Broadwell-DE processors and upward of 64GB of memory. From a capacity perspective, the A200 has 24 2.5” bays for SAS flash drives. The array supports up to 15TB drives, bringing a total raw capacity up to 367TB, although effective capacity is much higher with data reduction. Moreover, NetApp offers a guaranteed storage efficiency reduction of 4:1. The A200 also can add capacity through a DS224C expansion shelf. The array runs on NetApp’s ONTAP operating system.

**What do you dislike about NetApp AFF A-Series?**

The virtualization performance is a little slow
Missing a 1.92TB SSD option to hit the price gap between the 960GB and 3.8TB configurations

**Recommendations to others considering NetApp AFF A-Series:**

Up to 367TB in a 2U footprint (before 4:1 data efficiency)
Data reduction technologies had minimal impact on application workload benchmarks
