Well, I'm a data scientist and not a software designer, and spend most of my time using Python and SQL. When it comes to creating a chart for the C suite or for a company white paper, however, Illustrator is my choice.The one thing that I really like is that it works very well with SVGs. I am able to write a complicated plot using ggplot or matplotlib as a vector image and open that image in Illustrator without hassle, and then ungroup every part. From there I have full freedom. I can move data labels over each other so that they are readable, use our exact corporate colours and change the thickness of the data lines, without having to write ten extra lines of tedious formatting code. It took me a long time to get a grasp of how one would do something simple, so I had to Google a lot early on.It also requires a lot of resources. The imported scatter plot may contain hundreds of thousands of individual points in the shape of a vector, causing my machine to grind to a halt. They always have to be aware about which type of image are they exporting PDF as, vector image or raster image. They use all the dirtiest tricks to prevent you from cancelling your membership (forcing you to sign in twice, cancelling your plan right away vs letting you use it for the time you paid for, locking you in to an expensive year long commitment with a ridiculous cancellation fee). I use Adobe Illustrator for creating engaging assets for the business, which includes social media, case studies, and images for video. Adobe Illustrator allows me to make unique and relevant images that other platforms cannot. I like how much it can do; I've created many assets over the years with different tools, and I haven't even scratched the surface of what else the platform can do. I also like how many different formats I can export my designs in, ensuring the right design is exported at the best resolution for its platform. A tool I've found most useful recently is the Envelope Distort Tool, which allows me to angle designs to appear 3D, providing much higher resolution results than using GIMP for this effect. Adobe Illustrator has been able to create anything I’ve wanted quickly, and no competitor has come close to providing what I've needed. The user interface is really good, and the initial setup was effortless. I use it with Adobe Acrobat and Adobe After Effects, creating drawings in Illustrator and turning them into videos with After Effects. I'd rate it a 9 out of 10, as it's the best software for creating illustrations on the market and perhaps the easiest to use. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. Maybe some form of indication that the software is experiencing heavy use and to save down my work and to close some tabs would help, as I've lost some work in the past by taking on too much. It’s the absolute industry standard for vector work, and honestly, I’ve never even used any alternatives. I did try the new unified Affinity tool, but its vector workflow is no match for Illustrator.
