For me personally, creating logos on Adobe Illustrator has been what I utilize this program for the most for my work. You need to be a pretty experienced graphic designer to fully understand this program. I would say it's kind of harder to grasp than Adobe InDesign or Adobe Photoshop in my own experience. It takes a while to learn what each tool is for and how to use it - but you just need to have patience! **What do you dislike about Adobe Illustrator?** I dislike how the program sometimes lags. **Recommendations to others considering Adobe Illustrator:** I believe that someone who is considering to use the software, Adobe Illustrator, should be pretty well-experienced with graphic design and the process that goes behind it. It has a massive feature set, great support, and wide reaching community involvement. In many ways, you can't go wrong by purchasing Illustrator **What do you dislike about Adobe Illustrator?** A side effect of having so many features is that Illustrator has become a mess of menus, options, settings, panels, and sub-menus. Not to mention that it shares very few keyboard shortcuts or menu locations with other adobe projects. **Recommendations to others considering Adobe Illustrator:** I can't honestly recommend illustrator to those who haven't used it for years. There are other programs that are more than adequate replacements for significantly lower, one-time fees. **What problems is Adobe Illustrator solving and how is that benefiting you?** I do design work for a school district. I use Affinity Designer for 99% of my work, for a variety of reasons. But I still keep illustrator for the handful of proprietary features. Image trace is a great example. Plus, since it's an industry standard, many files come to us as .ai. ### 12. Using the pen tool to create and manipulate paths drives me nuts. It requires far more additional training than I have the time for. Oftentimes I wind up just saving a vector as a .svg file and opening it in Photoshop in the approximate size I need. **Recommendations to others considering Adobe Illustrator:** Take the time to learn the basics before trying to use the program for a specific project. We've used it for designing product labels for stand-up pouches printed in Japan, and it's difficult to accurately save as a PDF that's correctly printed with CMYK color matching. **What do you dislike about Adobe Illustrator?** It's a bit overpriced, and obsolete for my purposes. Adobe has made everything cloud based, requiring a subscription so it's not worth the cost to substantiate the shrinking use-case.Instead I use Sketch for any web related vector graphics design such as UI design. **Recommendations to others considering Adobe Illustrator:** Consider Sketch for UI or app design work instead, but consider this for print-only work. Even with print work, there are better more modern options available. You are not going to pick it up in one day and become a master. When I first bought the Creative Cloud suite I felt so empowered! It helped me create and publish a lot scientific artwork that could aid data visualization. As an epidemiologist, it is very important for me to make sure that my figures and graphs are multi-purpose - figures that are suitable for insertion into scientific posters, PowerPoint presentations, blogs and in scientific journals. The best part of Adobe illustrator is that I can export these figures into multiple formats, colors and dimensions as per the need of the hour. I also love the color palette feature which helps me select monochromatic/ complimentary color schemes using the color wheel! **What do you dislike about Adobe Illustrator?** The part that can be really frustrating about Adobe Illustrator is the fact that they have not updated any of the features associated with the graphing tools. It is very time consuming and irritating! For example, if I were to create a bar graph and customize it, it would take make me up to one hour to produce a graph! We don't have the option of adding data labels automatically, this really delays the whole process. I will have to type out each and every label myself. Secondly, resizing a graph once you have created it is next to impossible, unless you want it to look funny. Like most of the Adobe Creative Suite, this product requires training and lots of use to feel comfortable working in the software. The tracing feature was one of my favorites. Creating a vector image from a handwritten logo was so fun. The color placement and ability to perfectly match colors was great. I also loved how compatible it was with every other product I use. There was no need to export it into another format. **What do you dislike about Adobe Illustrator?** I didn't like the difficulty of learning how to use it. I had to spend time watching tutorials on how to use the product that it took away too much time from me actually creating content that I needed in the first place. I was disappointed on how expensive it was as well. That was a big factor in me choosing a different design and creative software. **Recommendations to others considering Adobe Illustrator:** If you understand how to implement the product it is great. I didn't like how hard it was to learn.
