I'm not a sound creator so things like vega would offer me the same functionality with the slight penalty of importing and exporting the sound. Normalizing the sound and that way removing spikes of high noise or upping the volume in areas that sound too quiet is something that takes less than a minute when you get to know the shortcuts. Contrary to other Adobe suite programs this is not a resource intensive program so if for any reason I need to correct something on the go I can do it from almost every machine I own without fearing I may ran out of memory. **What do you dislike about Adobe Audition?** Sometimes when opening a Premiere Pro file containing Motion Graphic Templates can cause playback issues, it's usually not an issue but when it happens it's just better to try to use another program like audacity, saves the headache of trying to fix this as far as I'm aware there is no workaround. **Recommendations to others considering Adobe Audition:** It's just the best when working with other Adobe Products because of the seamless integration **What problems is Adobe Audition solving and how is that benefiting you?** Editing audio and sound levels to make sure that the videos I produce are a delight to watch. ### 2. For instance, the user can go in and make edits to a single clip via the waveform editor, or they can adjust the timing, and effects of multiple tracks via the multitrack editor. As with most Adobe products, the real strong suit is the compatibility that Audition has with other applications within the creative suite. I will routinely edit an audio track in Audition, and then import it into either Premier Pro or After Effects. Being able to move freely between the applications without need for conversions has been a real timesaver when it comes to completing projects. I've also resurrected projects thought to be "dead" because of poorly captured audio. The Noise Reduction (process) effect is something that all audio techs should become familiar with, because it can safe you a lot of reshoots and/or worry. **What do you dislike about Adobe Audition?** Sometimes I get confused working within Audition, as the navigation is slightly different than the video editing and compositing programs like Premier Pro and After Effects. Sometimes I will unknowingly be importing a file into the wrong project. It's not a huge drawback, you just need to be aware of what you're doing when you're working within audition. **Recommendations to others considering Adobe Audition:** The are plenty of tutorials to be found online that can really help you progress as an audio tech. **What problems is Adobe Audition solving and how is that benefiting you?** Cleaning up audio recordings, reworking timing of audio elements, and converting music to the right format. ### 3. If you're a novice, Audition works great as a simple editor with easy cut-and-paste functionality. For intermediates and experts, no audio editing software has more depth in terms of tools at your disposal. As someone who edits multi-track audio for podcasts and creates audio for presentations, Audition has made my jobs easier and more efficient. **What do you dislike about Adobe Audition?** The only issue I have with the way Adobe pushes out updates is that every new version of Audition - assigned by year 2018, 2019, 2020, etc. - is pushed as an entirely new program, as opposed to just an update to the existing install. As a result, I've ended up with multiple installs of what is essentially the same program which does encroach on hard drive space. I'm sure there's a reason it's done that way, but I don't understand it. **Recommendations to others considering Adobe Audition:** Depending upon your needs, Adobe Audition has greater value when it can be bundled with the other products in Adobe's Creative Cloud package. If you need to do audio work in conjunction with other media - videos, presentations, interactive software, etc. - then grabbing the entire Creative Cloud package is virtually a no-brainer. The ability to integrate all of Adobe's products together makes overall workflow effortless. If you're looking for only an audio solution, Audition is still hands-down the best in the business. However, there are other options as a standalone product that may fit your needs adequately without breaking the bank. Adobe products carry a gold-standard price tag as well. **What problems is Adobe Audition solving and how is that benefiting you?** I use Audition to edit multi-track audio for a podcast series I produce. I started in 2014 using Audacity, a free-to-use, open source product, that was functional, but not easy to use. I upgraded to Audition starting in 2016 and, immediately, my editing time was cut in half and the quality of the output product increased dramatically. I started editing audio for presentations in 2017 and the ability to use Audition as a DAW, record directly into the software, and edit on the fly has been invaluable. ### 4. I had previous experience with Audacity and a little with Garage Band, but had never tried Audition. I needed to take a sound clip of an instrumental song and make it fill a specific amount of time, either through stretching it or looping some middle repeated section. Audacity/Garage Band didn't seem to offer this feature (except doing it painfully manually), but then after a quick search I saw Adobe Audition had this feature right there as an easy to use tool. It worked exactly as advertised: I was able to jump right into the program that I had never used before, figure out what to do, and export my new sound clip for use in my project, very quickly and seamlessly. I haven't needed to use Audition for much else since then, but it was such a nice experience I'm confident in writing this review to recommend it for other uses. **What do you dislike about Adobe Audition?** I remember when working with the software for that one specific purpose, there was a lot of other buttons and features and toggles (even settings within that one thing I was doing, there was a lot of options) which makes it feel very complex, especially if all you're doing is some light trimming. It makes it appear unapproachable when it's actually not. It doesn't make me want to go explore or play around with the tool, I'd only want to use it if I'm following guidance or a tutorial, for a specific need. (But I'm sure others might be more interested in poking around, it's just not for me). **Recommendations to others considering Adobe Audition:** If you're a new user, don't be put off by how complicated it might look when you start out - there are lots of tutorials out there (as there are with most Adobe products), so start with a simple task you'd like to learn how to do, look up a guide for it, and jump right in. **What problems is Adobe Audition solving and how is that benefiting you?** Some slightly more complex audio editing that would've been hard/impossible to accomplish at that level with lighter audio software (like Garage Band or Audacity). The app is a mainstay in professional audio editing. It is highly featured but manages to maintain a relatively intuitive UX when compared with other editing programs. **What do you dislike about Adobe Audition?** The app feels clunkly at times. It can get sluggish and forgetful, especially when it supposedly detects a change in audio hardware. I repeatedly spend time dismissing dialogue boxes informing me my audio hardware has changed. This happens on multiple computers and across operating systems. I wish the app would automatically understand that when I plug in headphones, I want to listen through headphones -- and that when I remove headphones, I want to listen through the attached speakers. Instead, I have to indicate my preference in the Preferences menu. This is not expected behavior. **Recommendations to others considering Adobe Audition:** For $15/month, Audition is well worth it. If you can afford this and are choosing between Audition and Audacity, choose Audition. I use it all the time to retime music for video projects. It's so fast to make songs the perfect length for video editing. It's so easy to fit music to the exact length you want. You just import your track, analyze for remix. then set your preferred length of longer or shorter. There is also an option to pick what parts of the song you would like to keep or loop. I wish this feature was built into premiere but it is easy enough to use in Audition. The new "learn Audition" function is great to gain knowledge in more features. **What do you dislike about Adobe Audition?** I wish the audio remix feature was built into premiere. It's annoying to have to go to audition to do simple music retiming but that is ok. I also wish exporting was faster but overall it's not too bad. The interface does feel a bit overwhelming at first but it is not too hard to learn and get use to the experience. **Recommendations to others considering Adobe Audition:** This is a great tool for video editors to retime music to fit your project. Audition saves me tons of time each week in music editing! **What problems is Adobe Audition solving and how is that benefiting you?** I have been using adobe audition for years to retime music for video editing. It's been so easy to make music tracks longer or shorter easily in a few minutes. I use to have to manually make music tracks longer or shorter in Premiere by finding edit points to cut or loop points to make tracks longer. With Remix in Audition I just have it analyze the music track and select the length you want and it will retime the track. Sometimes you will need to tweak the timing to get the track to the exact length you would like. Then just hit export. ### 11. I would love for Audition to have a better flow with Premiere for the average editor so that I could quickly navigate between the two. Just the structure that Audition using for saving files--its not the most intuitive or use friendly. But if you take the time to learn and adjust to it, it's not so bad. **Recommendations to others considering Adobe Audition:** I think to get the most out of the program, you really have to embrace it and take the time to understand it. It can take a little bit of work to get familiar with it at first and I think sometimes the reaction can be to simply move on from it--but don't. Because of the locations we shoot in, it's virtually impossible for me to shoot interviews without a great deal of noise in them. It's gotten better over the years, and for general audio cutting/cropping is pretty decent, and ok for any amateur filmmaker that doesn't have the resources to hire someone to edit audio. **What do you dislike about Adobe Audition?** It's not that great. The interface is clunkier than other more full-fledged Digital Audio Workstations.
